Does this song sound just as muffled and bad on every boot available? I think I've only heard it on Get The Boot and that's pretty much free from any high-end whatsoever.
127  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Cindy Oh Cindy on vinyl! on: August 15, 2013, 06:19:07 AM
I believe Doxy Records is some kind of grey-area label putting out all sorts of stuff on LP now with the vinyl revival and all. Squeezing the entire Surfin' Safari album onto one side of the LP seems like an odd idea. I wouldn't expect audiophile quality but it's a cool package!

Uhm, so what is the point of posting these when each and every one of the links comes back with a 403 error?

Here's a little help:

Wow, that sounds pretty amazing. It does indeed sound a lot like Carnegie Hall '72, but this seems to sport a better recording and mix than that concert... Can't wait to hear "Wild Honey" from this show on the box!
130  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: What is and isn't a SMiLE session on: June 06, 2011, 05:32:31 AM
Yes, thanks to the guidance of our friends at the Beach Boys Recording Guide, I was able to launch an appropriate home for the SMiLE info I've collected through the years.  And it has stuff to read beyond just SMiLE.

I just came across the Beach Boys Recording Guide (http://beachboysguide.smileysmile.net), thinking it was lost forever... I still feel it's a great idea having a Wiki-style Beach Boys live/sessions database. I know there's ADG's excellent site, but I think the Wiki format is perfect for this sort of thing. Are people still interested in helping out or is there no interest in this?

Have any of the songs on Get The Boot been bootlegged NOT as mp3's?

There's the one disc "convention" version of 'Get The Boot', and if I remember correctly a few of the tracks there ISN'T mp3 sourced. I'll have to re-check this, though.
132  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: New Sea Of Tunes (after 8 years!) on: August 24, 2007, 12:50:46 AM
So far, I've only managed to get a CDR(1) copy of 'All This Is That', but that one turned out to be mp3 sourced. IIRC, someone said the sources used by Sea Of Tunes actually were mp3's. Does anyone have an original silver CD copy of this title and could do a spectral frequency analysis and perhaps post a screen grab of it here?
133  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Secret Smile / Get The Boot / Psychedelic Sounds / Smile SOT Source Tape on: May 14, 2007, 07:28:06 AM
Maybe, but for some reason I think he sounds better than Carl on that despite Carl's voice being better. Call me crazy but Brian's voice, shredded as it was, fit the song better. It sounds more, I dunno, passionate than Carl, who sounds sleepy (or drunk).

I agree, I think the song is as dull as can be, and Carl (great singer that he was) sometimes put in really boring vocals (controversial!) - Full sail, Goin South, Oh Darling etc..
Brians vocal on Oh Darling sounds like he's in pain, but it fits the song better, though it's still turgid.

I LOVE Carl's vocals on Full Sail and Goin' South! Controversial, indeed!

All the CMYK albums are fan releases ( .. the artwork is exceptional). I've got 13 of their releases. They were a fan-made effort and a labour of love. From what I can honestly remember, the 2 people who made these fan discs got threatened with legal action several years ago and did indeed .. cease and decist (spl). That's all I'm going to say on it ( .. as my memory can get a little cloudy), but just to let you know .. these discs weren't anything that I had a hand in whatsoever.

Were there 13 (!) CMYK releases made? Any chance of getting a complete discography of those titles? And were they all CDR's or factory made silver discs?

I received the book today... or SHOULD have if I had been home. Apparently the seller shipped it using UPS and they left me a note that they'll try to deliver it again tomorrow. Postage turned out to be about 10 Euro. 20 Euro for that book, including shipping all the way to your front door, is a steal! Thanks once again for the heads-up, MBE!  Grin
138  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian Rare Compositions on: March 14, 2007, 03:02:16 PM
I'm a bit confused...

The web site correctly attributes the song 'Muscle Buscle' (sic) to Gary Usher, Roger Christian and Brian Wilson, and 'Yes Sir, That's My Baby' is noted as being written by Irving Berlin (sic, again!).

Thanks once again for the heads-up, MBE. I faxed them my details and also hope I will receive the book soon.  Smiley

Here is where I found it.

Nice find! The fact that their shopping system is not encrypted worries me a bit, though... But still, really NICE find!  Smiley

I just ordered my copy from pickabook.co.uk as they had the best price I could find (£12.05).
144  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Hamburger Sessions on: March 05, 2007, 03:29:39 AM
Hamburger?

Do you mean this one?

1. (Talking)
2. California Girls
3. "Let's Start Our Own Band"
4. My Solution
5. (Sounds of sexual intercourse)
6. Mike, Mike, Mike
7. Bonanza Theme
8. It's Just A Matter Of Time
9. I Don't Want To Die
10. Take My Breath Away
11. You Take My Breath Away
12. (Talking)

That's still a bit of a mystery... I once saw it on ebay coupled with "Remember The Zoo".

Who came up with that fake track listing in the first place?
145  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: New Brian version of God only knows on: March 01, 2007, 04:57:04 PM
I want to hear a remake of 'Smart Girls', complete with fake harpsichord, and a spliced-in Bruce! You can't beat Bruce, especially not when he's spliced in. Spliced in, I tell you! That's where it's at!
146  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: did i find a rarity or just plain crap? on: February 28, 2007, 04:12:22 PM
It's listed in Brad Elliott's magnificent 'Surf's Up' book on page 119. The LP you bought was originally released in August 1977. 'Karate' is also performed by the Beach Boys, by the way. I don't think it's particularly rare, though...
147  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Sea of Tunes Sale Revisited on: February 22, 2007, 04:02:50 AM
I think "Breakaway" was written in the summer of '69, and SOT was sold in November.  Carl and Brian also recorded one of Murry's songs in '69, which is on the "Get the Boot" album.  I'm not sure what month, though.

Is that 'Won't You Tell Me'? I have the following information on file:

'Won't You Tell Me' (B. Wilson/M. Wilson)
Recorded August 24, 1971.
Produced by Murry Wilson.

I have no idea if it's correct though...

Is this the show where they perform 'Vegetables'? If so, it's awesome! I had no idea they sounded this good in 1993... And what a set list!
149  Smiley Smile Stuff / Ask The Honored Guests / Re: The Stephen Desper Thread on: February 18, 2007, 11:23:03 AM
Stephen wrote to me in January that I had purchased the very last copy (#570) of the books that he had on hand, and that he has no immediate plans for reprinting.

Shoot (as our beloved Mike would've said)! Why, oh WHY didn't I buy it  earlier... Oh, well... Thanks for informing me.
150  Smiley Smile Stuff / Ask The Honored Guests / Re: The Stephen Desper Thread on: February 18, 2007, 08:48:39 AM
I'd like to order a copy of Mr. Desper's "Recording the Beach Boys" book, but I can't access the web site anymore. Anyone?
