1  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Surfboards used in early photo sessions. on: September 22, 2012, 04:12:51 AM
I see at the Grammy Museum it says there is the surfboard that they used for the photo shoot on their first three albums and I read somewhere else that it's not the one but a similar board that belonged to Dennis. I don't know which is true?
Also does anybody know anything about the other board that they were pictured with around the same time that was used in the picture of the Surfin' USA EP?
It would be interesting to know what make the boards were etc.

Thought I read online somewhere a while ago that Carl's Jaguar is in one of the Hard Rock Cafes?

I haven't checked my E mails for a few days so I only discovered this today. For a start how did this Daniel Craig get my E mail address? it is not on my details on this site.
I use a PC that belongs to another person in this house and she was offended by this sort of thing appearing on her computer. I hope this is sorted out because if this happens again I will have to cease using this site.
4  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / The dinghy in the swimming pool scene. on: September 03, 2006, 07:25:17 AM
Just looked at my Pet Sounds 40th DVD. the scene with them in the swimming pool with Sloop John B playing (I already had it on the Pet Sounds AUDIO DVD,and remember seeing it on TV in the 60s). What I would like to know is who is the other person that was shown on a couple of clips pointing to things?

Happy Birthday AL, hope one day you will come to the UK with your band.
6  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / CD The Great Beach Boys. on: August 31, 2006, 12:07:32 PM
Just purchased this CD of their very first recordings. Two of the tracks 'Surfer Stomp' and 'Balboa Blue' don't sound nothing like them, what are these exactly? and who played on them? I had a similar LP in the early 70s And two of the tracks were by someone else I can't remember  now if it were these.
Can anyone tell me?
7  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Original SMiLE. on: August 25, 2006, 08:46:04 AM
Just something I thought about but seeing the original SMiLE was not finished and what was recorded still exists, couldn't Brian have continued to finish it in recent years with musicians from his present band?
Might be asking a bit much for the remaining Beach Boys (Mike, Al, and Bruce) to fill in on vocals as much as possible.
I know it would not be the same without Carl and Dennis and not quite the same as if it was finished back in the 60s but made as close and accurate as possible. Don't know if it could be done?
8  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Beach Boys EPs on: August 16, 2006, 06:40:10 AM
I reckon I have all the UK eps except the 1st ( Surfin Usa)

The others are:
FUN FUN FUN (Fun fun fun,Why do falls fall in love,Little deuce coupe, in my room)
FOUR BY THE BEACH BOYS(wendy, hushabye, don'tbackdown, little honda)
BEACH BOYS CONCERT(Long tall texan, johnny b goode, papa oom mow mow +1other)
BEACH BOYS HITS(California girls, help me rhonda,Little Gir I once....,Barbara Ann)
GOD ONLY KNOWS (GOK,Wouldn't It Be Nice,Sloop, Here Today)

4 by the beach boys is a weird one. It's mono but it seems to be a fold down of the stereo because Don't Back Down is the shorter stereo version ( but in Mono)

If I remember correctly the one other track on Beach Boys Concert is Little Old Lady From Passedina.

I bought a second hand one in the early 70s, wish I kept it, it was called 'Surfing USA' . the tracks were; Surfing USA , Surfer Girl, Surfin' Safari,Shut Down.

Here are some links that note all the noted noises, chatter and edits on Beach Boys records...

http://www.surfermoon.com/essays/noises2.html

I've certainly heard the records differently after reading these!  Smokin

Zander

I checked these sites out and want to listen to them all now. There is no mention of a noise like a whistle on Then I Kissed Her in the last verse?
11  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Background chatter. on: July 30, 2006, 06:40:00 AM
On several songs there is background chatter on them, i.e. Here Today during the solo, the intro on Do it Again, Then I kissed her has something like a whistle towards the end of the song.
Is there a reason for leaving these things on there? Brian and the engineers must have known at the time?
I have noticed though that on the CD version of the Surfin' Safari album between the last two tracks the interference from another studio has been removed, I used to have it on my old vinyl version.
12  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Glen Campbell. on: July 28, 2006, 09:16:25 AM
There must be thousands of pictures of the Beach Boys but I don't think I have ever seen one with Glen in it.
He was only a Beach Boy for a few months but there must be a few pictures, also I don't know if he was ever filmed performing with them, I haven't seen anything on DVDs or documentaries.

In the lyrics 'Eggs and grits' , What exactly are 'Grits' ? I do not know this American term here in the UK.
14  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: A Day in The Life Of a Tree. on: July 07, 2006, 11:10:13 AM
That was quick Joe.
Is there a reason for a non Beach Boy to be singing it?
15  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / A Day in The Life Of a Tree. on: July 07, 2006, 11:06:13 AM
Who sang the lead vocal on this? it is difficult to tell.
16  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Bruce Johnston as a member of the Beach Boys on: July 06, 2006, 01:34:52 PM
From  Pet Sounds onwards until he left in 1972 he was pictured on all the album covers and other pictures and a lot of the time as a five piece without Brian so doesn't that make him a full time Beach Boy?
17  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Bruce Johnston as a member of the Beach Boys on: July 06, 2006, 12:35:00 PM
Out of Dave Bruce Blondie & Ricci, Bruce has got to be the most Beach Boy as he was with the band with most of their hits during the sixties which was their best time.
18  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian's 1984 arrest on: July 06, 2006, 12:24:15 PM
With all the drugs Brian did all those years, I'm surprised this is the only time that he was arrested (at least that we all know about)...

Probably because the republicans said that stars should be treated differently.

Happy birthday Bruce, enjoy your day.

Happy Birthday Brian.
You have been a good friend to me over the years through your music and although obviously there are too many of us fans for you to know us  all individually I hope we are all your friends.
Enjoy your day.

21  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Beach Boys Gear on: June 19, 2006, 09:04:58 AM
There is a picture of them at the moment on the  'brian wilson-fans.com' message board under 'Brian on drums' and in the picture Carl is playing a white Fender X11 twelve string, it can be seen if you look closely.

Also while I'm logged in, on the back cover of 'Pet Sounds' one of the pictures of them on stage shows them with what look like VOX AC30 amplifiers, I don't know if they are?
22  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Beach Boy drug use...? on: June 19, 2006, 08:42:24 AM
Al mentions in one of the books in 'Pet Sounds Sessions' box set that he wasn't invited to the playback sessions probably because he was too much of a goody and didn't want to smoke with them.
If he and Bruce did not do drugs it must have been hard to resist it being in the company of the rest of them who were, like in the tent for example.
23  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Capitol Press Release for "Pet Sounds" 40th Anniversary & "GV" CD Single on: June 17, 2006, 04:31:50 AM
Is there going to be anything much on this CD/DVD that is not already on the 'Pet Sounds audio DVD' & the 'Sessions box set'?
24  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: First Pics of Beach Boys Capitol Get Together on: June 14, 2006, 05:32:41 AM

Kind of reminds me of...

The album cover of the MFP version of  'Today'.
Who is that in the middle?
25  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: First Pics of Beach Boys Capitol Get Together on: June 14, 2006, 05:07:04 AM
Not to be a downer, but these guys don't neccesarily get along at all. How often to ex band members get together for these sorts of things and actually really make a big negative scene? I remember Jeff Beck did that when the Yardbirds were inducted into the R&R hall of fame. But these pics in and of themselves simply means these guys put on the smiles for the cameras. Mike and Al were together at that grammy luncheon in 2001, but Al indicated afterwards that it wasn't a pleasant experience, at least in terms of being there with Mike.

As others have said, apart from any reunion talk, I hope they can come to some real peace with each other. But the pics without any stories don't mean much. Hopefully Jon Stebbins will have some details about what if anything substantial that was said.

They may have been alright together for this but as for the band reforming things could well get back to square one.
