1  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Sweet Insanity - prospects on: December 29, 2017, 06:30:49 AM
Long-time lurker here...rare post from me...maybe I should post more often:

The master tapes being stolen, according to Brian, well...I have to take that with a grain of salt. Brian dodges a question and tells a big fib when he wants to avoid discussing a topic. The SMiLE tapes were destroyed (see A&E 199 bio), eh Brian?! Brian also said several years ago, that he never knew Dennis had a solo album. Yeah, right, Brian!

My theory is this:

The master tapes are in the vaults (both versions), but both versions have leaked out. And those promo cassettes did indeed leak from Alexandra Morgan.

The promo cassette is the best way to hear the 2nd version of Sweet Insanity. I'd welcome a 4 cd box with the following:

1. BW 88 (w/bonus stuff from the 2000 reissue)
2. Sweet Insanity [both versions]
3. Andy Paley sessions...lots of potential, here!
4. Miscellaneous rare & unreleased tracks: Hotter, Daddy's Little Girl, rough mixes from the BW 88 album including Love & Mercy w/the missing verse.

How about the title song? Why do you even name an album with a song title that is not on the album?

Well said.

It's a shame the complete show (warts and all), hasn't been released.

Brian adds more piano than some might think...he's just mixed very low.

Great cd and dvd, despite the edits and omissions. The worst imo is the edit towards the end of Rock And Roll Music on the cd. The cut out the few bars of Dennis playing just his crash cymbals. It's complete on the DVD. And the missing songs: Good Timin', In My Room, Catch A Wave, I Write The Songs, Some of Your Love, Wouldn't It Be Nice and Santa Ana Winds.

In my opinion, there's no reason Good Timin', In My Room, I Write The Songs and Santa Ana Winds should'nt have been included. I've heard all of the missing songs and they range from good to great. I thought it very stupid to subtitle the release "Good Timin' " and not even include that very sing. But what do I know!?  Grin

As for the "Don't Panic" sign, that was for Brian.

No matter what the guy swere going through personally...it's still a very solid performance overall. They should release the complete July 4, 1980 D.C. show. It was recorded on multi-track.
