It's accurate, just pronounced really poorly.
52  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Capitol to Release Brian Wilson's 'No Pier Pressure' April 7: press release on: January 30, 2015, 10:04:18 AM
Has this been posted yet?

http://pitchfork.com/news/58275-frank-ocean-and-lana-del-rey-left-off-brian-wilson-album-due-to-scheduling/

Apparently Frank Ocean and Lana Del Rey were left off due to scheduling issues.  Sad

Mr. Cunningham.  May I call you "Don"?

I just can't understand why Brian said that. He was asked which song would he finish, and I assumed that the questioner asked him which song that's still in the can or in demo form that he would finish. Maybe he did mean which already-released song that he wished he had back to finish it because he felt it was unfinished. I think Brian mighta just pulled "Lana" out of his........hat.

Why would "Lana" need to be finished? Did it need an extra verse or more instruments in the backing track or more vocals or more of everything to make it a fuller sounding song?

By the way, you referenced Lindsay Buckingham. He produced a great version of Farmer's Daughter to have the FM ladies sing. He didn't touch it - just had them sing it acapella. Farmer's Daughter has no more of a sparse production effort than Lana or Noble Surfer or Finder's Keepers. I mean, you can take any one of those songs on the very early albums and spice them up or "finish" them. But.......less is more sometimes, you know Don?  What's your take on a musical level as far as the verse, chorus, melody of the song? Do you think Lana would be better if it was [somehow] "finished"? I'd say no more than any others in the BB catalog.

Yeah, I had meant something that never made it past the demo/early stages or recording (and I listed 3 examples of unfinished BB tunes I wish we had complete versions of, or that he could finish them as he did with BWPS). Maybe he does consider Lana unfinished though, as some have suggested.  Undecided

Either way, I don't mind - I'm just happy he answered my question at all!  Grin. And the thought of him redoing a song like Lana with his current voice is intriguing anyway - I'd definitely love to hear it!

Still hoping for a release of Adult/Child and the Paley Sessions more than anything save another reunion, by the way - too bad we couldn't get him to talk about those!
54  Smiley Smile Stuff / BRIAN WILSON Q & A / Which unfinished songs of yours would you most like to complete? on: January 26, 2015, 08:41:20 AM
You've revisited some incomplete works in the past, most significantly the SMiLE album in 2004. But there is still a wealth of amazing songs/song ideas that you and The Beach Boys left unfinished throughout your career (ex. "Can't Wait Too Long", "Lonely Days" and my personal favourite "I'm Begging You Please"). There are many such songs that us fans are interested in, but which unfinished songs/demos of yours would you most like to complete/revisit?
55  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Thread for various insignificant questions that don't deserve their own thread! on: January 19, 2015, 01:33:10 PM
Just got the Good Vibrations box set and was flipping through the booklet when I saw this:

"During the past fifteen years, the Beach Boys have recorded a number of songs for motion picture soundtracks (e.g. "Americathon." "Problem Child") that weren't hits. (Note: Those will be included on a forthcoming Beach Boys rarities collection.)"

Does this mean that there was actually some sort of rarities comp featuring the miscellaneous film tracks being planned at the time? If so, why didn't this end up materializing? Was there any other mention of what might have been on it?
56  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: God Only Knows-Brian sings lead? on: December 29, 2014, 09:47:43 AM
Sorry to revive this thread, but I just got the Pet Sounds Sessions and was wondering if there is any new information available on this version of GOK from Disc 3. Was it ever confirmed whether or not there is any Brian singing lead on this (and if so, is it a blend of him and Carl/who sings what?). Just curious as to whether there's any consensus on this.
57  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Christmas (Beach Boys Related) on: December 26, 2014, 07:09:13 AM
I got:
1. Made In California box set
2. The Pet Sounds Sessions box set
3. Catch a Wave (book)

Plus lots of cash, with which I will probably buy a lot more Beach Boys/Beach Boys related products  Grin

Wasn't Last Song supposed to come out before the end of this month according to Lana's twitter page? Has there been any news of that since?
59  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: People who aren't fans of the BBs still like certain BB songs. Name em... on: August 02, 2014, 05:23:59 PM
I have a friend who's mostly into prog rock and who while acknowledging The Beatles influence believes they don't even compare to bands like Yes and Genesis. When I informed him of my love for the Beach Boys his response was along the lines of:
"The Beach Boys suck. They have one good song - Wouldn't It Be Nice. That's it."
60  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Almost Summer On CD. on: July 31, 2014, 10:24:09 PM
All,

I have read several places recently that have listed BB tracks NOT on CD, that Almost Summer gets mentioned. So I thought I would post here. Almost Summer is on the following CD.

Where can I find a list of the songs not available on CD?

Am I the only one who would love another MIU? At least something that resembles the second side? Embarrassed

Checked my vinyl copies and the lyrics are also like that... Did they think these were less offensive?

And what's with the messed up (more than usual) lyrics in the booklet for Hey Little Tomboy?

HEY LITTLE TOMBOY
SIT HERE IN MY LAP
I GOT THINGS THAT I GOTTA TELL YOU

NO MORE SKAREBOARDS, PUT AWAY YOUR BASEBALL MITT
ROUGH LIVIN' DAYS ARE THROUGH
YOU COULD FIND PLACES TO GO
YOU COULD SEE BOYS LOVE YOU SO

HEY LITTLE TOMBOY
TURN INTO A GIRL
HEY LITTLE TOMBOY
ALL OVER THE WORLD

HEY LITTLE TOMBOY
I'VE BEEN LOOKIN' AT CHA
THINKIN' HOW YOU COULD BE
I SMELL PERFUME
I LIKE JEANS
SO MANY CHANGES I SEE

HEY LITTLE TOMBOY
TURN INTO A GIRL
HEY LITTLE TOMBOY
ALL OVER THE WORLD

67  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / M.I.U./L.A. 2-fer, Canadian on: July 24, 2014, 02:34:40 PM
Does anybody own the Canadian issue of the 2000 2-fer for M.I.U./L.A. light album and would they be able to take pictures of the front/back of the Art as well as the front/back of the actual disk? I ask because I recently purchased a copy online and a couple of things make me question it's legitimacy - strange residue from the plastic wrap, strange plastic wrap, when compared to the reissues of Sunflower or Carl and the Passions the black text on the CD is of different thickness, as if the green circle in the middle. Would like to confirm the legitimacy of this product so I can contact the seller if necessary. I will post pictures in a few minutes.

What's that playing in the background while Mike is talking about the song?
71  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian Wilson Leads Lineup at Beatles Event on: January 28, 2014, 11:38:59 AM
"It has been nearly forty years since the Beatles conquered America"

... so the Beatles went to the US in 1974?

That aside, sounds awesome - hope some clips show up.
72  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Boxsets We Would Like To See Within The Next 5 Years on: January 11, 2014, 01:28:19 PM
Some high quality late 70s - early 80s material might be nice... perhaps some sort of extended edition of Adult/Child? I'd love to hear some great tracks like Stevie and Oh Lord properly.

Yep. Gimme Adult/Child with some other stuff from that era and I'm good.
73  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Today's Mainstream Music on: January 07, 2014, 04:46:16 PM
Not on topic but interesting note - when I had a friend listen to Pet Sounds they didn't like God Only Knows because the title gets repeated over and over again in the song. (I only count about 20ish so not quite 30+). Guess it's more about the way they repeat the same line - the  ending to GOK is genius. :S

I was gonna say that Thank Him is no better than what I already had, but actually it is now that I listened to it. Different pitch too.
75  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Beach Boys On Simpsons on: December 15, 2013, 10:10:02 PM
So I was just watching the latest Simpsons episode and they started playing a 60's sounding song. The voice sounded familiar, but it was only till I heard the trademark Beach Boys harmony that I realized it was Mike Love singing. The song was Merry Christmas Baby from the Christmas album =O

Was it a re recording?

Nope, it was the original as far as I could tell.
