I think Surfin' 92 could be easily salvaged for Love's new rumored project, Keepin' The Love Alive. More vocal processing and a guest rap from Uncle Kracker would be all that song needs to fit part and parcel with Love's current solo sound.

Is this from the Formal Clown Collection? Who would wear this shirt in public?

Mike Love

Sail on Sailor is a really cool song with an excellent chugging beat. Blondie's vocal is definitely his best contribution to The Beach Boys. Five stars

Was just listening to the Mothers Live At The Fillmore East (1971). They do a song called "Tears Began to Fall" which sounds very much like a parody of "Tears In The Morning". Go to YouTube and see what you think.  Wink

probably not. not sappy enough.

The Beatles. Too many classics, even if Let It Be wasn't a proper album.

I think Sunflower sounds really good, thanks to Desper, but a lot of the material is basically just pretty crap.

Like Make It Good, Cuddle Up is just barely there as a song. Half-developed to the former's 10 percent. The first couple lines are quite nice but then the composition just falls into saccharine disarray. 2 stars.

HeyJude, sorry I was probably a little out of line. I hope others are able to look past the issues I take with forgetting lyrics onstage.
62  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Al Jardine - 2018 Tour Thread - Postcards Storytellers Tour on: February 02, 2018, 12:45:16 PM
Al was his usual self with lyrical misfortunes; he did the ending to "Sloop" twice, both with the "this is the BEST trip..." line and then explained he knew he messed up but it was because there have been so many different versions of "Sloop", and he counted his children's book's lyrics as one of them. He also slipped on a couple of his own songs, "California" & "Postcard".

Al's near constant lyrical flubs onstage make me wonder how familiar he actually is with The Beach Boys music and what his work ethic is like. He's at the very least bad at his job of being one of Brian's "messengers," seemingly not knowing the lyrics to any of their hit songs beyond what he can muster from muscle memory. True, his voice is good and, at the very least, he was physically present as a Beach Boy back in the 1960s. I would, however, be more likely to pay to see Mike and co., though.

I voted a 2 for WIBNTLA. The song lacks lyrical polish and includes the unfortunate line "high on a hill, makin' love again".
The song tries to make a big emotional impact, but falls flat due to the underdeveloped lyrics.

The Beatles had Ticket to Ride, Help!, You've Got To Hide Your Love Away, Yesterday, Day Tripper, We Can Work It Out and the watershed Rubber Soul.

The Beach Boys had one great (but mostly forgotten) album (Today!), two or three iconic singles (if we want to include Barbara Ann), and a covers album which has not aged well.

Certainly The Beach Boys had their moments, but 1966 was really their year.
