Why is David Marks no longer considered a member, while Brian and Al are?
The only other definition we can use is the legal/corporate definition. By this definition, Mike, Brian, and Al are and have always been "Beach Boys" by virtue of being shareholders in their BRI corporation. In contrast, Bruce (and David when he has been with the band) has always been more or less "salaried." So Bruce is still a member of "The Beach Boys" because he is a salaried member of the touring band, and David is not because he does not tour with the group (aside from the seldom special occasion)? On Wiki Brian, Mike, Al, and Bruce are listed as the current members of the band, David having apparently left in 2012. This all seems very arbitrary to me. As you said, The Beach Boys (really) are no longer together.

The Roy Orbison one sold ridiculously well in the UK - been in the Top 100 since release, spent 8 weeks in the Top 10, and is available in all the supermarkets.
Still I can't see a Beach Boys one having half as much promotion or sales.
Yeah, and the Elvis ones (all three volumes) were smash hits. Who's buying these things when the original recordings are sitting right there next to it on the shelf? People who are so burnt out on the originals they they're trying to recapture the freshness they experienced the first time? People who say "Y'know, Don't Be Cruel really could've used an oboe. I've said this all along and now I'm vindicated!"? The people who bought those Hooked On Classics albums? (Lady in checkout line at Walgreens) "Hey my husband loves The Beach Boys! Might as well surprise him with this!"

4 -- A bit lacking in lyrical impact due to Reiley's wordiness, but musically a good track and there are some cool images there. The second half is really cool -- The Beach Boys weren't doing much of that cut and paste style songwriting in those days, only Cool Cool Water, and the Smile stuff, really.
