Good to see you back, Mikey. I am too very thankful for everyone getting this release done. I have received the 5 CD box set today, hadn't had the time yet to listen to it but will do it first thing tomorrow. Thank you guys again, actually there are some exciting releases coming out this year but this one takes the cake for me.

I recall seeing clips of Dave being handed assorted BB albums he didn’t play on to sign during the C50 and thinking that’s not right. It was probably easier to sign them than not I guess. What made you think it isn't right? It's very easy thing to do, wouldn't hurt & be skin off him if he signs albums he isn't pictured. Doesn't seem big deal. Besides, even if he didn't play, say, Pet Sounds, he'd been BB when they began & the band going to different path with PS without him didn't & will not brush it away. 2 years ago Al would refuse signing a Surfin' Safari copy explaining he isn't even on the album.

I've seen parts of it and I've been reading for years about Mike singing Good Timin'. Couldn't really believe it until now! They still did Surfin' USA so there really was no need for an extra showcase for Mike. After all there is no Al lead and by then Lady Lynda was a minor US and huge UK hit, right? Despite this being a subpar performance I actually dig if the boys (or any other group for that matter) trade lead vocals. Just strange choice doing it when they were trying to promote the song and album on TV.
So now we know Carl, Dennis, Mike, Brian, John Stamos and Chris Farmer tackled this song, anyone else in the Beach Boys universe. Probably John Cowsill?

Not really an answer to the original question, but the song has been included on and off in the 2000s and 2010s, and seems to have a moderate response. John Stamos sang the lead during the non-C50 shows, and David sang it during the C50 tour. I think the moderate response (vs a tepid response) was at least partially due to the track's inclusion on Sounds of Summer in 2004.
The C50 show in Mönchengladbach I attended had Brian and Al singing lead for "Good Timin'". I've read somewhere that "It's A Beautiful Day" was a number one hit in LA, can anyone confirm? Also "Crocodile Rock" hit the top 5 in Uruguay? I know there were a couple of unusual hits in other territories like "Summertime Blues", "Ten Little Indians", "Tears in the Morning" and "Still Cruisin'" among others.

I saw Al playing bass with the BBs on at least one number in Dec. 1984.
Yeah, I saw him play bass on "Fun Fun Fun" that August (maybe "Babara Ann" too...I know he played the bass on that one at the July 5th '81 Long Island show...) Wow, I never noticed that and I've seen this show a couple of times. Seems like Ernie Knapp is playing Al's guitar and Bruce is too occupied hugging Dean Torrence and Adrian Baker.

If I had to choose I'd take the classic line up but I truly believe that Ed needed Sammy to grow musically. I especially dig 5150 and OU812, really great summer feel, kind of like hard rock versions of the Beach Boys. That's what David Lee Roth said about Michael Anthony a couple of years ago: And what we have at our fingertips is arguably one of the greatest high tenor voices ever – that was in Michael Anthony. In our tiny little corner of the universe, that voice is as identifiable as the high voice in Earth, Wind & Fire, as identifiable as the high voice in the Beach Boys. Van Halen is an indelicate house blend of both – that's intentionally.
http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/q-a-david-lee-roth-vents-about-van-halens-future-20130212?page=2And then there was David's web show on youtube in which he talked about the Beach Boys influence and being a fan of them. It used to be on youtube but prior to the start of the 2015 tour all of his episodes were deleted.

Carl Wilson and Peter Cetera might be my favourite vocalists ever, of course Peter is missing here. Carl kicking in in "You're the Inspiration" gave me goosebumps! I still can't stand Jason Scheff. I am waiting for the new Chicago documentary, I hope it will shed some lights on why Danny Seraphine was let go.
Have you read Danny's autobiography ? Fascinating read... I actually did, awesome read but a bit short. It didn't give too much information about his dismissal, only some little hints (like a vicious incident that happened backstage).
