Smiley Smile Stuff / Book Reviews / Re: I am Brian Wilson - Brian Wilson (duh)

I got it as a Christmas gift from my SIL and reading it now.
Except for the non-linear style it feels like you are peeking in Brian's diary. He opens up completely and shares life experiences in a very candid and refreshing way. It is not a book you want to fly through, if you are used to speed reading try to slow down and absorb the feeling of the words. I still have a long way to go so this isn't a full review, just my thoughts so far and its 2 thumbs up and 5 Big Ones (stars)

Looks like the Indiana show got a full-length setlist (39 including "River Deep"), then they did an extremely short setlist at Pitchfork, perhaps the shortest setlist of the tour, and then in Iowa they did a longer but still truncated setlist (assuming it's correct on setlist.fm.
Sometimes (though less so than the olden days), casino shows are required to be shorter. Since both the Indiana and Iowa shows were "Horseshoe Casino" shows, it's a bummer they did such a shortened show in Iowa. Perhaps if you get the band on the third or fourth night in a row, you sometimes get a shorter setlist. The festival gigs being shorter makes sense, but it's a bummer when two nearly-identical venues two days apart get drastically different length shows.
I figured Pet Sounds would be at the beginning but no complaints really except for the rules forbidding taking photos I was satisfied. A very enjoyable evening.

Caught the Horseshoe gig - that's two in one week after the Hollywood Bowl Sunday. Pretty much identical shows in terms of the sets. Brian seemed a bit more engaged although he still half way talks through some of the songs with a staccato like meter. Blonde was awesome, Al was solid. Matt Jardine is killing the falsetto parts - best I've hear in years. Good to see Billy Hinche on the keys, too bad he doesn't get to play any guitar in the shows as he can certainly rip it up. Looked to be sold out with an engaged audience. Pretty good end to a fantastic week.
Were you on row D? Talked with a nice couple that saw Hollywood Bowl show.

Read it all last night, just got the ish in the mail yesterday.
End of article is touching but what I took with me more than anything else is Mister Luv is a very bitter, angry man. TM may be curbing his hate but it sure is NOT curing the problem.
He wants to relate to Brian, work with him -- on Mike Love's terms only.
He has a touch of entitlement mentality as well. Telling that he expected FREE tix to the biopic and when he didn't get them he just refused to go, says he "lived the movie".
At his age I don't see any change, he has the accumulated hate of 50 years to overcome.

Things have certainly changed In my younger days we just walked into Sound Warehouse to buy tix or purchased GA at the gate. Of course the concerts were $6.50-$8.00 to see acts like Zappa, Tull or Led Zeppelin. Bands like Nektar were $5.00 and went to tons of Free or $1.00 shows to see acts like Black Oak Arkansas and Head East. I just spent more yesterday than ALL the dozens of fantastic bands of the Seventies. And they say the Jimmy Carter years were bad ones....

Could not figure out how to access Pre-sale codes either. A lot of the seats were locked out if you did not have code.
But I got two tickets for the Horseshoe show in July!
Can't wait, this will be our first BW concert!
Wow, a Pet Sounds performance will be your first BW show. Awesome. Enjoy!! Thanks! I wasn't aware of the tour until today, saw it on Bing and the tickets due to go on sale at 10:00am. Really floored that she said don't worry about the price get the best seats you can. I don't think I have fully taken in the import of today's good fortune. It will hit me when I see the cc statement, no doubt. BTW there are 4 Horseshoe Casinos on the Tour and we will be at the Elizabeth, IN one.
