It's easy for me but then I am a woman! I disagree with the comments that WH is Carl's worst vocal and that it's strained. I love it for the fact that you can tell he's singing his heart out! The parts that might sound strained to others just sound full of emotion for me. Carl's voice at this time was amazing, full of soul. The breaking of his voice at the end doesn't sound poor, it just adds magic to the song for me.

You're right, CTV, for disagreeing with the post that called WH "Carl's worst vocal."  Carl Wilson did a great job on that record, and I say 'so what' if he had to strain somewhat to reach the highest notes.  There might be one (guy) in 1,000 who could pull off that song, but Carl did it and sounded great.  Among his "rocking" leads, it's one of my favorites.

Thank you, thank you, thank you (as Dennis used to say).  Matt, I truly hope that you and the other members of Cal Saga keep performing (and recording) together.  The Beach Boys, like many of their fans (myself included) are getting older, and sometime in the not-too-distant future will have to start thinking about retirement.  If you and the other BBs "kids" feel led to do so, there's no one else that could do as much to keep that wonderful music and Beach Boys legacy alive and thriving after the original members hang it up.

Well, at least he apologized and was pretty open about it. Lots of other stars would brush it off, say nothing, or make excuses.

Yes, and the fact that he apologized for his behavior is "Classic Carl."  The man, even at a time when family problems had caused his life to spiral out of control, had more integrity than you'd see from most superstar types.  I, too, am glad that Carl got his life back on track so soon after the Australian tour.  I just regret that he never got the chance to return the favor to Rocky Pamplin.  But, of course, the eye-for-an-eye mentality would have been so unlike Carl.

What can I say?  For me it's a huge honor to sit at my computer and post on a message board with (1) the son of Al Jardine, (2) a young man who has performed alongside the Great Carl Wilson, and (3) a man who not only sang with the Beach Boys but one whose voice added to the band's greatness.

Thanks for your comments, Matt.  Here's hoping you won't be a stranger to this board.  Cool

Greetings from a new member but long-time visitor to this message board.

I hope no one will take offense to my user name.  It’s a name I come by honestly and one that I proudly share with three founding members of what I consider to be the greatest band in the history of American music.

Like many other members of this board, I grew up loving the Beach Boys’ music and their wonderful harmonies.  If it’s possible – and it is – their music is even more important to me today than it was 50 years ago.  I still remember what it was like for this 13-year-old boy, lying in his bed at night in rural Oklahoma, listening to the Beach Boys music on my tiny radio.  That sound touched my soul and I knew without a doubt that, for me, there would never be another band like the Beach Boys.

Unlike many here, I have no special connection to the band, have never met any of the members and, for reasons beyond my control, have never had the opportunity to attend a Beach Boys concert.  But my genuine love and appreciation for their music spans their entire career.

Carl, the youngest Beach Boy and less than three years my senior, was my “hero.”  And even though it might sound creepy to someone who has never loved the Beach Boys, not a day passes that I don’t think about this kind and courageous man, listen to his angelic voice and wish that he was still with us.

That’s enough about me and my love for the Boys.  I will add that my beautiful wife of almost 40 years loves the Beach Boys (almost) as much as I do (if she’s faking it, she’s too sweet and loving to ever let me know).

Anyhow, I will never be able to discuss the band on the same level, nor display the same knowledge that many of you do.  I just want to be able to learn as much about my favorite band as possible, and perhaps occasionally make a worthwhile contribution of my own.
