Yeah, I'm a huge Mr. Show Fanatic. On the commentary Bob blasts Brian Wilson as writing boring songs about what he did, and said he was increadibly sick and he was forced to watch a documentary about the Beach Boys. He describes at as the Beach Boys being like, we needed one more song for the album, and Brian came down and wrote the smash song :cool water. Then Bob sings it, but is completely wrong. Then they talk about all the ridiculous beach boy songs, vegetables, johnny carson, etc. Bob doesn't seem to be a fan. Pretty funny though.

You have to remember the marketing here. You have Brians people trying to push a product and nothing more.I look at it as a car dealer with two models. The dealer has to say the 2006 is better than the 2005 or he does not eat. Of course Brian is going to say his band is better than the Beach Boys (any version) otherwise the buyer will just buy a Beach Boys album or go to the Mike and Bruce show.
Get over it!
I disagree with the last part, I think Brian could say nothing and people would rather opt for his show than the alternative (as long as they knew who he was).

A., that's not a good thing to say about your departed brothers and B., I don't think it's accurate. I take exception to that. So there I dont think you can replace the beach boys, but i definetly think the mints and co. are more technically profficient players, and i dont see why would take exception to that, unless he really thinks he is going to have a sax off with Paul Mertens.... which i owuld love to see I don't think Mike was referring to the technical musicianship aspect...I think his issue is more with Brian saying that they are superior vocalists. Not to open up this issue again but this is one of the rare times that I agree with Mike on something. As i said before, I dont think you can replace the boys, but technically and traditionally speaking, i think brians current band is better, having said that, i would obviously always rather go see the originals (the wilojarston boys), but the mints are technically better id say.

I love "Sloop" but don't believe it fits here. I believe a BB's version of "Guess I'm Dumb" would have fitted better - it's lyrically sound and, production-wise, a match for the rest of the album. Word! I slipped in the 'Mints cover instead of Sloop and i think it sounded great, but i am great with sloop oon as well, guess im dumb is jsut such a great song.

I think they're both Beach Boys, Dennis is obvious, but Bruce, just because he joined late doesn't mean anything. If I were to move to NYC, after 40 years, I would consider myself a New Yorker, was I born there, no, was I there when New York was born, no, if I moved away for 7 years in the middle would I still consider myself a New Yorker, yes. Bruce eat, sleeps, and breathes the Beach. No, he isn't the most important, but I wouldn't be in a giant city, but I would still be a part of it, and he will always be a part of the beach boys.

I doubt that Darian's contract doesn't allow him to work with any other artist, if he's only doing incidental music then there certainly wouldn't be a problem, and since the 'Mints tend to bust the studio out in a week, there is no way he couldn't find time to record some vocals, I'm sure between Brian Wilson and Disney he can afford a plane ticket to wherever Brian is recording. And also, I think it's time for a new Wondermints record, Mind If We Make Love to You has been playing for 4 years, I need more 'Mints!
