My favourite Beach Boys album, which makes it incredibly hard to rate! 1. The entire California Saga - When I listen to it, I want to listen to it from the beginning till the end. Big Sur: maybe the best Mike ever did, love the instrumentation and vocals. Beaks: I don't mind the poem, it really fits with the music. Al's singing is simply beautiful. California: love the banjo, the rhythm and the vocals. Brian's intro is magic. I do prefer the single mix though as it has more Brian 2. Sail On Sailor - A great rockin' tune. Love the pounding piano, bass and drums. Blondie's voice fits like a glove. A great song! 3. Steamboat - What a song...the backing track is stunning. Love Denny's bass vocals. 4. The Trader - One of Carl's best leads ever. Full stop. 5. Only With You - I prefer the live version, because it's longer and is very similar to Denny's solo effort. It's a lovely tune. 6. Leaving This Town - I can't decide between the Moog and organ solo, because they are both incredible. Love it. 7. Funky Pretty - The studio version is a bit 'meh', but I do love the vocals very much (especially Blondie). The In Concert version is so much better.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=81PcyF7Ygl8River Song - Hartford 1973 I believe this version comes from one of those 'rare live' compilations. I sure hope the circulating concert sounds better than this as it's often said to be excellent. Still a gem, but probably posted before That's my video. Cool. You're right, it comes from one of the "Essential Live Collection" comps I downloaded a while ago. I wish I had the rest of the concert, but I'm happy just to have River Song performed by the group. Aah. Thought so! I've found this collection as well. Has some cool gems, but I'm sure there are better quality versions available...somewhere Thanks for uploading them all to Youtube!

Hi there! I'm a 26 year old Beach Boys fan from Holland. I'm new here. I had an account here before, long ago, but lost everything. Changed e-mail etc. so I decided to make a new account. Holland happens to be my favourite album as well! Hope to have a great time here Cheers!

Together with Holland my favourite era of the BB. Here we go:
1. Marcella - God, I love this tune, but the live version is much much better. They simply rocked! Carl shines on this one. 2. Cuddle Up - gives me goosebumps every time. Dennis had a lot of soul. 3. Here She Comes - a great Fataar/Chaplin production. The drums sound maybe a bit too heavy, but I really dig Ricky's sound. The bridge starting at 1:52 is one of the finest moments on the album (especially the piano part). 4. All This Is That - love the vocals. Wonderful song. 5. You Need A Mess Of Help To Stand Alone - a nice rockin' tune with some lovely piano and guitars. 6. He Come Down - I like the gospel idea behind it. Sounds like they had a lot of fun doing this one. Great vocals from Mike! 7. Hold On Dear Brother - another fine Fataar/Chaplin production. The guitar is simply beautiful. 8. Make It Good - I somehow can't get into this one. On the upside, it features Dennis.
The 72-74 was their live peak. It's too bad In Concert features so many 'oldies'. Also, 6 of the 8 songs have been played live. Now, if we only get to hear them in excellent quality one day...

1. 'Til I Die 2. Surf's Up 3. Long Promised Road 4. A Day In The Life Of A Tree 5. Disney Girls (1957) 6. Feel Flows 7. Don't Go Near The Water 8. Lookin' At Tomorrow (A Welfare Song) 9. Take A Load Off Your Feet 10. Student Demonstration Time
Hit and miss album, in my opinion.

Pfff were to begin? 1. Forever - Dennis at his best. Such a moving song with lovely lyrics. 2. At My Window - I just love this song. The 'He came to my window' line is one of my favourite harmonies ever by The Beach Boys. It's just...beautiful. 3. This Whole World - Thank you, Brian 4. Add Some Music To Your Day - Five lead singers. Too bad there was no room for Dennis. But one of their finest. 5. Slip On Through - A nice rockin' tune by Dennis. He sure was on fire in this period. 6. It's About Time - Same as above. Love the part with the bass. 7. Our Sweet Love - Carl, the voice of an angel. Wonderful. 8. All I Wanna Do - Mike's vocals are top-notch. 9. Deirdre - Nothing that special, but Bruce sure does sound great on this one. 10. Tears In The Morning - A hit in Holland, but it's not my favourite. Bruce does again a solid job. 11. Cool Cool Water - It's okay, I guess. The intro is nice to sing along to. 12. Got To Know The Woman - Again an okay song, but not really my cup of tea.

The Holland documentary from a few years ago explained how they achieved the rhythm section. Quite unusual.
It's such a great song, from such a great album.
For those pf us who haven't seen the Holland documentary from a few years ago, could you please explain how the rhythm section was achieved. Agree by the way, it is a fantastic song - such a lovely melody, incredible guitar solo, and just a gorgeous laid-back overall vibe. The doubters sure are missing out not being able to get into such a nice track... Sure. I hope my translation makes any sense as it was said in Dutch. Don Willard: "There's a number on the record, called Steamboat. It was recorded with double speed. Drums, piano and bass. This was put back to normal speed and this was doubled again, which gave a wonderful effect."
