1  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Can anyone help me identify this song? (Dennis Wilson) on: July 18, 2006, 05:37:07 PM
Thanks a lot.

Though, I prefer the way I remembered the lyrics to the actual lyrics...
2  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Can anyone help me identify this song? (Dennis Wilson) on: July 18, 2006, 05:09:11 PM
Near the end of the American Band documentary, Dennis is shown singing a song with these lyrics:

If I knew what I could say to make you laugh, I'd probably talk forever

What a wonderful lyric! What is this song?

He has the same problem as Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood--Ronnie's been with the band since '75, but still isn't called a real Stone by some!

Anyone know where I can get me a copy of Mok's Smile?

Has anyone heard this mix? I'm not a SMiLE nut in the least, this is the first mix I've ever gotten. (I own BWPS)
The concept is rather simple:
It's the BWPS arrangement, but with the original '66/'67 recordings.

I've heard this is somewhat popular, and I'm quite blown away by it. Anyone have anything they want to say about this mix?
6  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Can anyone help me find out what year my Pet Sounds vinyl is from? on: July 02, 2006, 03:36:01 PM
I picked my album up a couple months ago at a local antique shop, because of how obsessed I am with Pet Sounds. Only $7!

It's in pretty good condition, though the side of the sleeve is split. The record itself has a couple skips, but it's definitely good playing quality.

How can I find out what pressing/year it is?

Did these Sgt. Pepper fans think poorly of Please Please Me beforehand?

Many do, yes. I know I didn't appreciate the early stuff until I got what they were "really about"--after listening to the middle albums.

It's not ridiculous.

Sgt. Pepper
is not the Beatles' best work in my opinion. It's just their most celebrated. Half of it is pretty crappy compared to the great things they did before and after that album. Compare "Sexy Sadie" to 'When I'm 64" there's just no comparison. Likewise with the Beach Boys, they have many interesting albums. I personally prefer many of them over Pet Sounds, although I do understand the emotional importance that it carries. I think Friends would make a larger impression on a person. It's unlike most music, and will take most off-guard. Pet Sounds is like handing a person a massive stack of papers to look through, when the paper they need is at the very bottom. Whereas Friends is just one sheet of finely sliced paper with its message written clearly.

I completely agree with you that Sgt Pepper is overrated completely. I much prefer most of their other albums. But it's a valid point that I made--you don't hear Beatles fans complaining that fans start with Rubber Soul, Revolver and Sgt Pepper--I don't see why Beach Boys fans have to be sticklers about this.

I'm tired of seeing all these people who hear Pet Sounds and then "discover" the Beach Boys. laaame.

That's quite a ridiculous statement. Think about all the Beatles fans since the 70s who have started with Sgt. Pepper. I know I was one of them.

My ex-girlfriend and best friend's boyfriend has a sister who's 13.

Apparently she's a big Beach Boys fan, and I asked her yesterday if she had heard Pet Sounds. She hadn't even heard of it.

So I burned a copy of it and I'm giving it to her today...Should I feel good?

Will this be the first time the stereo mix has been put on vinyl?

I'm such a freak for this album...I already have:
The 2001 CD
A vinyl from the 60s
The Brian Wilson Presents Pet Sounds Live DVD
"Wouldn't It Be Nice--Brian Wilson and the Making of the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds"
This is all since March, mind you...

Knowing me, I'll end up with both of the new PS releases...
12  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Anyone ever send fan mail to Brian? on: May 13, 2006, 08:21:17 AM
Does he have a fan mail address? Does her read or respond to it? I'd love to write him something...is this done?

Thanks in advance.
