I made it clear in another post that I'm not a fan of that member's faked-friendliness and passive-aggressive behavior. And now I learn that she's basically a psycho who keeps lists of who doesn't want to show their online status. Not exactly surprised, and I, for one, would be pleased if she didn't return, as Jason wanted. That's the only thing I will say about this issue.

There are mechanisms in place for folks to report harassment, and there is a crew of mods to enforce standards. Both are good and necessary. Beyond that, this is a board for discussion and debate, and I see no need for forced cheerfulness. People disagree. People don't like each other. That's life.
- says someone who at one point left the board. Or considered to leave. You do realize you're not exactly encouraging people to stay on this board with replies such as this one, right? Clay once wanted to leave the board? Well in the end he didn't, so why bring that up? I'd usually let this slide without saying anything, but I see you promoting camaraderie and friendship, and yet you're always among the first to throw the proverbial sh*t in the fan. Live by your own condescending rules.

2 both SloopJohnB & pixletwin: you are entitled to your own opinion as much as anyone here, but those were weak & pointless points. pixletwin, you say that retrokid wanted to get attention by a mere "Brian's a musical genius" comment? But wasn't it called "Brian Appreciation Thread" & she expressed her own, well, appreciation of Brian? Also, I don't see the difference between posting this short bit on an old thread & starting a new one by saying so. Even if retrokid was seeking for attention, it's definitely not for herself, but rather other folks coming in & share their own thoughts on Brian. In the Music section, Luther very rightly noted that making a thread doesn't mean owning it (or sth. along the lines). Each can contribute & enlighten it adding more useful information, therefore, raise the direction of the thread from silly rant to interesting discussion. So, instead of bashing a newbie someone could post crucial piece of information as you, SloopJohnB, worded it (for example, some stories relating the meeting with a Beach Boy).
The comment I was referring to was weak and pointless. Mine had a point: to show an example of what is pointless. You say you " don't see the difference between posting this short bit on an old thread & starting a new one by saying so". Well, you see, there's no difference. Just as you shouldn't dig up a thread from 2006 to say "Brian is a musical genius", you shouldn't start a new thread either. It would be like going on an automotive message board and starting a thread just to say "I like cars". Billy is right, there are messageboards where that kind of behavior would lead to bans. I'm not saying we should do this here. I just want to say that it's annoying.

It's worth resurrecting an old thread if it addresses a very specific question. Otherwise... No, it's annoying. Case in point: "Brian Wilson Appreciation Thread". Generic as hell, no interesting information whatsoever, 2 pages, died in 2006. 1st post by thread digger: Brian's a musical genius WELL GEE, THANKS FOR THIS CRUCIAL PIECE OF INFORMATION. THIS WAS WELL WORTH RESURRECTING A THREAD THAT HAD DIED EIGHT YEARS AGO.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: BB studio recordings with some bandmembers not vocally present?

AGD might be able to help on this one.. There was a rule started in the early 80"s that there had to be at least 3 BB on a vocal track to consider it a BB track.. Out of 6 BB. So it gets dicey at that point for sure.. It probably started after the incident on the runway September 1977.. Or at least sometime in 1977-78 because this is where Billy Hinsche is present in the blend in the studio.. Love You MIU he is for sure on those..
If that rule was implemented in the early 80's, it didn't last long - case in point : the " Barbie - Living Doll" flexidisc. Or " Wipeout"... And probably more. Read the Wilson Project. There was a near stand off in Hawaii to get three members to "record" vocals for "The Spirit of R&R" for the 25th Anniversary Special. Al and Carl refused due to Landy's involvement but ultimately Bruce and Mike showed up making it an official Beach Boy recording and allowing the song to be on the special. Also, Usher discusses the rather odd Wipeout recording session with Mike and Al both being present to put their vocals on the track. He also describes how Brian rather quickly and deftly (to Usher's surprise) gave them their parts. This is news to me (admittedly, I have yet to lay my hands on a copy of the Wilson Project) but my point still stands, this rule didn't last long. Your story seems to indicate it was still valid in 1986, but 1987's " Barbie - Living Doll" features a single Beach Boy on a Beach Boys record. The following newspaper sure is interesting though: " A spokesman for the Beach Boys said all the members of the group had been in favor of recording 'Living Doll'. 'They all wanted to do it,' he said. 'No one argued against it.'" http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1298&dat=19880302&id=Ug8QAAAAIBAJ&sjid=C4wDAAAAIBAJ&pg=7016,230509

I just love how with the small amount of information you have you can assume I was over medicated.
Here, almost no-one will prescribe substances for depressed/anxious/whatever teenagers. Because that's what teenagers are. American doctors think they must cure everything, even things that aren't actually illnesses. Maybe they wouldn't do that if they didn't get so many benefits from pharmaceutical companies. I also love how you assumed I was British with absolutely no information at all

That one was memorable. http://smileysmile.net/board/index.php/topic,7823.0.htmlwho can blame brian and dennis? those are a girl's peak years in terms of looking classically beautiful (i.e., youthful yet desirable) unless they get bit with the teenage goofy bug.
have you see marilyn these days? just looks like any average mother in a supermarket, no offense to her
i think brian is quite a handsome guy, he at least deserves a woman or a teenage girl with a chin!
just kidding
problem with liking girls in those years is that you will get stuck with them as they expand and wrinkle
every pretty girl is just saggy tits and wrinkled skin waiting to happen anyway, and a space filler for a coffin
it's no surprise though that brian liked girls rather than women, he seems to have been a boy more than a man
dennis was a man, so it's safe to assume he was just hungry for fresh fruit.
the beach boys have always had a sort of boyish crudeness to them about some sexual jokes. "gettin hungry". brian's p*ssy eating comments on lei'd in hawaii, etc.
all part of the lifestyle i suppose. seems sort of stupid to me, sex isn't that great in the first place.

Smiley Smile Stuff / Welcome to the Smiley Smile board / Re: Moderation issues and concerns

Having been moderator on a messageboard that was slightly larger than this one, I know that sometimes decisions need to be made quickly. I also know most moderators are not banhammer-happy and, most of the time, if the actions of a given poster are such that they trigger a gut feeling that banning is the right decision, then banning IS the right decision. Moderators usually are reasonable people.
And it happens to be the case here - so far I have had zero complaints with the moderation team. They are doing a flawless job as far as I am concerned, and knowing all the different kinds of people that use this board, you should be glad the moderators are doing their job the way they do it. It couldn't be significantly better. And it could be so. much. worse.
