26  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: What is happening with the licensed Beach Boys? on: April 17, 2015, 05:41:24 PM
Well this is an interesting development.  I'm guessing Ike will take over bass duties.  I can't imagine Scott T. or Foskett switching, although anything is possible in Beach Boys land.

Anybody want to throw down a bet as to who's next?  Darian?  Probyn?  Melinda?
27  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Guess we know where us US members are buying our copies of NO PIER PRESSURE on: April 07, 2015, 10:52:18 AM
No luck at my local-ish Target.  I found an empty spot where it should have been, but an employee scanned it for me and no luck - all sold out.  She said they had only received a couple of copies.  I got there at 10, two hours after they opened so I guess it's my own fault.  Oh well, I snagged the plain old deluxe edition at a local music store so I'm just happy to have it in some form.

29  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: BB members singing live leads on songs originally sung by other members on: March 22, 2015, 06:36:55 AM
David: Getcha Back – was that his only lead vocal on the C50 tour?

He also sang Hawaii at some shows.

You can add Carl doing Wouldn't It Be Nice to the list as well.

I don't know, nothing too revelatory but I thoroughly enjoyed the interview.  I hope he does another one sometime soon.

Ha, that's actually kind of cool.  Completely ridiculous, but still kind of cool.

Mike and Bruce were at least rehearsing Forever w/ Dennis on the screens (just like C50) at soundchecks a couple years back.  Did they ever end up doing it?
33  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike and Bruce Tour 2015 on: January 07, 2015, 08:15:43 AM
Didn't Mike mention Keepin' The Summer Alive in a recent-ish interview?  Something along the lines of he didn't know why they weren't playing it, so it's at least crossed his mind.  I think it would be an excellent addition.

I don't know, modern haircuts aside, it looks like it has potential.  I'm not really one to hold a film's (lack of a) budget against it, so I'm certainly willing to give it a chance.  The acting looks decent enough, and I like the idea of older Dennis telling the story.  Hell, it's only a 90 second trailer so time will tell I guess.

Anybody happen to know who took these pictures?

Saw Mike and Bruce tonight they were fantastic as usual, was surprised to see that they are now using Dennis pre recorded vocals as tribute on Do You Wanna Dance, and I have to say it sounded really weird and out of place different from the Carl video on God, which btw malfunctioned tonight forcing Bruce to sing what was a really weak vocal on the song.

Let the conspiracy theories begin  Tongue

Thanks for sharing.  Chad doesn't sound bad at all (when he's audible).  The entire band is a little rough around the edges, though, but considering they hadn't played a show in a while it's understandable.

Happy birthday to the great Al Jardine!  Here's to many more!
39  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: *Merged* Brian Wilson current album thread on: September 02, 2014, 03:02:33 PM
Given that it's September 2nd, I'd be very surprised (but very happy) if the album is really set to be released in October.  I guess if it was late October, that would be a solid month and a half of promotion, but it seems nowadays new albums are announced way in advance.  I guess stranger things have happened in BB land.

Good lord, I don't think there's a BB song that Robin Leach didn't reference.
41  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: What is your most played Beach Boys song? on: March 07, 2014, 05:04:22 PM
Going by my ipod, Isn't It Time is actually my most played Beach Boys song at 32 plays.  Help Me, Rhonda (single version) is 2nd at 28.
42  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Three Songs You'd Like To See Added To Setlists of M&B and BAD on: February 04, 2014, 06:04:09 PM
For M&B, I think they should add Keepin' The Summer Alive.  Probably not the most popular choice, but I think it would go perfectly with the rest of their set.  Heck, throw it into the opening "medley."

For BAD, I'd like to see them do another Dennis song.  Little Bird sounded great with Dave singing.

*Edit* I can't count (or read thread titles)
43  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Q&A with Brian on Facebook, January 27th on: January 27, 2014, 01:22:59 PM
So far this is my favorite Brian answer:

Q: are there any modern/more recent songs you're fond of?

A: I liked Take My Breath Away
A: A group called Berlin

Not sure I see Mike in her face?

If anything, I'd say it's in the eyes.

47  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mastering Error on MIC Disc 3 ? on: December 05, 2013, 10:44:14 AM
Whoa, so i called on Monday, the day before yesterday, and they told me i needed proof of purchase, i told them i had already deleted my emails from ImportCDs and that i had heard that others who had already called weren't asked for proof of purchase, so they took my name and address down anyway and said they'd "look into it." An hour later i realized that i could just log in to ImportCDs and take a screenshot of my invoice, which i did, and then i called back and they gave me an email address to send the proof of purchase to (fisherscustsvc@umusic.com), and i just got the disc in the mail today, two days later. Incredible. The package came from Indianapolis, by the way, not LA (and i'm in the northeast). And the disc plays correct now, every track starts at 0:00 and the Surf's Up fade is intact. Good job, Universal.

EDIT: My story is pretty much exactly the same as monicker's.  Called monday, had to e-mail a proof of purchase (copy and pasted my Amazon invoice) and the replacement disc just came today.  I didn't receive any reply or confirmation or anything after e-mailing them, so I'm glad they're getting them out quickly; hope everybody else is having luck getting their discs too.
48  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mastering Error on MIC Disc 3 ? on: December 03, 2013, 11:20:42 AM
I just called and was told I had to e-mail proof of purchase.  She told me I could just copy and paste my Amazon invoice.  Strange some people are just being asked for mailing info while others need to provide some sort of proof.  Oh well, hope it works.

"I love Pet Sounds everything I do is because of Pet Sounds!"
"So you must have heard the box set where they split the vocals and the tracks?"
(awkward pause)
"...No, I was born in '84."

Yeah, well I was born in '85 and I've heard it.  Not that that makes me any more of a fan than her, but what a stupid response.
50  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / Re: Nostalgic Video Games on: October 07, 2013, 10:38:48 AM
When I talk nostalgia, I talk Mega Man.  All the games for NES pretty much defined my childhood.  Even when I went on to get a Super Nintendo and so on, I always go back to those games.  The Castlevania games come close, but they still can't touch Mega Man for me.

Oh, and Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!  Still in my top 5 favorite games of all time.  I never had the Mike Tyson version, but I had the later Mr. Dream one and I did beat him once.  I can't get past Super Macho Man nowadays, but I'll always have the satisfaction of knowing I kicked his ass at one time.
