Voted for "Forever" as well. Some pretty weak choices there. Gettin' Around would be just about the worst title for any DVD ever if that wins.
I'd bet you money that it's that one that wins. I'm not even really sold that they're really allowing fans to actually vote for it. I'm sure they'll go with "Gettin Around" anyway. Forever is definitely the best choice, and In Harmony is OK too. The Last Wave is kind of depressing. It would definitely be a Beach Boys product if they had this really cool document that celebrates their legacy and the reunion and it ends up being called "Gettin' Around."

Forget about MIC. What the world really needs is a deluxe Summer In Paradise set. Take the original US mix and supplement it with the UK remixes and remakes, include some extensive liner notes (perhaps written by oldsurferdude) and throw in a bonus dvd with videos for "Summer Of Love", "Forever", etc. All of us appreciate different eras of the BBs recording output. There must be a group out there who grew up listening to SIP that feels insulted every time somebody criticizes it. To these people an album like Pet Sounds would seem too depressing or boring with not enough songs about surfing. I am not sure exactly the size of the market for these people but shouldn't we pander to them as well?
...I'd buy the hell out of that.

It was once told, many years ago, that Bruce Johnston was at one time a pretty good songwriter and gifted musician. Today's generation knows him as the best audience conductor/cheerleader/microphone adjuster in the business, his past musical accomplishments a mere sidenote in history, almost lost to time.

It was a pretty good concert. The harmonies seemed a little thin. Obviously I'd gotten a little too used to hearing Al in the blend again.
I can actually see advantages to both ways -- there's a lot to be said for the "wall of vocals" approach on last year's tour, where every vocal part except some of the leads was essentially triple-tracked live, but I also quite like being able to pick out each individual voice and hear what it's doing, and with the exception of Christian Love all of Mike & Bruce's band are very fine singers. I don't mind Christian's voice, and I think he sounds good on some stuff, but his stage presence sucks. He just looks so bored, like he'd rather be anywhere else than playing in his dad's band, and he half-asses his vocals.

Now this is a tough one, and not for the right reasons...
1. Santa Ana Winds - This is actually my preferred version of the song (even with Al's spoken word intro) 2. Endless Harmony - terrible lyrics aside, this is my favorite Bruce song after Disney Girls. Carl's part at the end is one of my favorite later period BB moments. 3. Keepin' The Summer Alive - Corny, but fun. Definitely check out the live version from Friday's if you haven't seen it. 4. Goin' On 5. Livin' With A Heartache - probably doesn't belong on a Beach Boys album, but I still like it a lot. Another great vocal by Carl, and I love the "after all this time..." part. 6. Oh Darlin' - Okay song, but the backing vocals annoy me. 7. Sunshine - Again, okay song, but just doesn't really go anywhere. I don't love it, but I never skip over it. 8. Some Of Your Love 9. When Girls Get Together - totally out of place on the album, and probably should have been left in the can. Just goes on and on and on. 10. School Day - One of my least favorite covers the band ever did. Much better live (especially from the Knebworth show), but here it's just a bore.
I think I like this album more than I probably should. If they had dropped a couple of the crappier tunes and maybe resequenced the album, I think it would be much, much better. Even still, I enjoy a good chunk of it. Not their best, not their worst (but close).

I (mostly) love this album. Ranking most of the tracks is going to be tough, but here goes:
1. Angel Come Home 2. Baby Blue 3. Good Timin' 4. Lady Lynda 5. Sumahama (I've always liked this song a lot. I could do without the Japanese bits, but I think Mike's melody is top notch) 6. Goin' South 7. Love Surrounds Me 8. Full Sail 9. Shortenin' Bread 10. Here Comes The Night (Predictably, my least favorite, but I really don't hate it...for about the first 3 or 4 minutes.)

What is wrong with the sound on this album?! It's most noticeable on Oh Darlin' (especially on the backups) and Endless Harmony, but there's this annoying effect on the vocals and much of the instrumentation, and it's annoying. I can't think of the proper name of it right now, but it's horrible and kills much of the album for me.
I always thought Carl's lead on Oh Darlin' sounded like it was out of phase, but I'm not sure it is. I can't imagine they would let something like that slip by, so I'm guessing it's just a really weird mixing choice.

Carl Wilson: The greatest vocalist in the history of modern music and the man most responsible for keeping the Beach Boys' music alive for the final 30 years of his life. Music lovers, in general, and Beach Boys fans, in particular, owe you so much for refusing to let the band die when the rigors of a tremendously hectic life became too much for your big brother. Without your leadership and determination, the Beach Boys likely would have (in the words of one noted composer) ceased to exist as early as the 1970s. Thanks for refusing to let that happen. We miss you, Carl Wilson. RIP, Great Man!
JMHO!
Very nicely put, I couldn't agree more.
