26  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Gary Zekley - As good as the Beach Boys? on: December 04, 2013, 04:36:46 PM
I like the Yellow Balloon version much better. this just screams "HEY LOOK AT ME TRY TO SOUND LIKE THE BEACH BOYS"
27  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Tyrannosaurus Rex/T. Rex appreciation thread on: September 03, 2013, 03:16:42 PM
T. Rex is definitely one of my Top 5 bands, mainly based on the acoustic stuff.

They're also a huge influence on my music: http://mount-moon.bandcamp.com/track/turtles-game

We have to figure out the Question which would give the Answer meaning.

I thought it was How many roads must a man walk down before you can call him a man?

The song, it's pretty good. His voice is awesome.

For some reason, I was really looking forward to hear what the repeating three note guitar solo sounded like. I started laughing when I heard it.

I was explaining the whole story to my roommate about how this was supposed to be the last track instead of Surf's Up and she said "Oh, this song is soo much better than Surf's Up!" and now she wants to hear it again. My first listen was on headphones and then I played it again for her. So I've already heard it twice. I can't really see myself listening to it again right now. It's so long.

I love the Arctic Tale version, it is so much more upbeat and the arrangement is great too. You don't listen to a Brian Wilson song for the lead vocals.
31  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: If Brian only played solo songs live... on: July 28, 2013, 02:25:41 PM
I would be far more likely to see a Brian solo show if he played mainly songs from his solo career.
32  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Child Of Winter on: July 13, 2013, 03:43:42 PM
My posting history on this board spans a pretty developmental period of my life, from ages 18 to 25 (26 next week). There are a lot of things that have happened in my personal life that have really changed me as a person. Whenever somebody posts in an old thread like this, and I see a vintage Aegir post, it always make me feel really weird. My music taste has really changed a lot too. Until about four years ago, I disliked most modern music. If you had told me in 2007 that I would be a really big Strokes fan, for instance, I would have laughed. Child of Winter is such an awesome song and I cannot see why used to think otherwise.

although I like Child of Winter, it doesn't hold a candle to I Get Around.

Nearly six years later, I think Child of Winter is infinitely more creative than I Get Around.
34  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Was Love You/15 Big Ones the first recorded use of the Pollard Syndrum? on: July 08, 2013, 03:17:47 PM
According to Love You personnel, Brian Wilson plays "electronic drums".

well, this is why you can't trust wikipedia. and now it doesn't say that anymore.
35  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: We Gor Love - Studio Version on: July 06, 2013, 10:32:41 PM
Country Pie. (Yes, no one in the band wrote it, but that doesn't make it a cover)

I've never heard the Pixies on the radio.

Well that snippet's been out there for almost a year.
38  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: New \ on: June 01, 2013, 12:14:26 PM
this was one one of those documentaries from last year. and "Sunny Days" is just the name of the user that posted the clip, not the name of the song.

Spring Vacation is better than any Dennis Wilson song.
40  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: TWGMTR - 1 year on... on: June 01, 2013, 12:09:05 PM
I listened to the album like 20 times a day when it came out and I need to give myself some more time before I can listen to it again.
41  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: mike and bruce just encored with wild honey on: June 01, 2013, 12:08:18 PM
Yeah, there you go. I figured that thread would just be full of people arguing that Mike & Bruce weren't the real band and they were a bunch of greedy jerks and blah blah blah same thing we've been reading for years.

I'm kinda glad I didn't know about it in advance, it was a wonderful surprise.
42  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: mike and bruce just encored with wild honey on: June 01, 2013, 09:22:02 AM
i am surprised you guys are not freaking out about this like i am. could this be the first time they played wild honey since 1972?

Umm,  they started doing it last month. Cowsill sings it. There was a thread on it and Cowssill even posted.

oops, welI I must not have seen that thread. Was it clearly labelled? I have developed this habit with this board of not clicking on a thread based on the title.

46  Smiley Smile Stuff / 21st Century Beach Boys Albums / Re: The Beach Boys Live - The 50th Anniversary Tour on: May 29, 2013, 11:45:42 AM
I consider myself a Beach Boys completist (I even bought a Chris Farmer album once) but this seems so uunappealing to me that it's not even worth listening to once.
47  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian, Van Dyke, And Harry Nilsson 1970's Candid Photo...Revisited on: May 28, 2013, 09:42:59 AM
people determining what year it was based on the absence of John Lennon? maybe he is out of frame or the one taking the picture. maybe he just didn't go out that night. maybe he was in the bathroom.
48  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Lesley Gore - Maybe I Know on: May 25, 2013, 08:49:25 AM

Maybe I Know and California Nights are great. The only non-60s song I have from her is her cover of ACDC's "Dirty Deeds Done Dirty Cheap"!

Lesley Gore covered "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap"Huh    Either you're kidding, or I really need to hear that!    LOL

EDIT:  Indeed she did - just found it  http://youtu.be/pusgdcX2D54     LOL
Holy sh*t. 3D

the same album also has Herman's Hermits singing Billy Idol's "White Wedding" and the Box Tops doing "Call Me" by Blondie.

My guitar is the one in the right channel, so I'm playing lead on Daylight Saving, the Chuck Berry part at the end of Molly, the electric guitar on Sad 90s Pop Song, etc. I kinda like the really abrupt transition in Daylight... it's completely unexpected.
