1  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / Smiley Smilers Who Make Music / Re: My new EP on: May 10, 2018, 10:35:35 AM
Haven't posted on this board in years.

The people in this thread telling me my album was too sloppy made me decide that the next one would be professionally recorded. Here's the album I put out last year, some of the same songs from the last one. I still play nearly all the instruments on it (drums are programmed).

I think Fun, Fun, Fun sounds incredible! Absolutely incredible. The quality is incredible. I can't wait to hear what something like Wouldn't It Be Nice sounds like. (probably incredible!)

Brian & co randomly unannouncedly played all of Pet Sounds when I saw them in 2013

9  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / Smiley Smilers Who Make Music / I'm interning for a label and this is their first release on: September 29, 2014, 05:27:02 PM
Hey guys, the label I'm interning for, Solace Music Group, just released their first song and I've been tasked with trying to get people to listen to it. So I figured I'd post it here. It's a trip hop song with a female vocalist. Take a listen if you wish.

Bums me out that she's not playing on my continent. I hope they make a good DVD out of the concerts.

Thanks for taking the time to listen. I knew the stylistic decisions I made in recording this would turn a lot of people off, but I just wanted to put out some really raw rock and roll. If I didn't want to hit bum notes and drop beats, I would've gotten other people to play the instruments haha

Check out my other albums on my bandcamp page if you'd like, it's all home recorded but less screaming, mainly acoustic.

You can't do that! Now you have to listen and tell me what you think!
13  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / Smiley Smilers Who Make Music / My new EP on: August 21, 2014, 08:38:28 PM
https://danscarpa.bandcamp.com/album/everything-sucks

I just recorded this EP over the past two days. I played all the instruments - guitar, bass, drums. There's screaming and loud guitars and all that stuff Beach Boys fans generally don't like, but I'd love it for people to check it out.

Here's a really mellow track off it with no screaming or loud guitar: https://danscarpa.bandcamp.com/track/my-ex-is-married

Not saying he's not a nice guy, just not a good drummer. Can he play drums better than me? Yes. Can he play drums well enough to be in a band that charges $100+ a ticket? No.
The shows that I have seen, he only played drums on Be True To Your School. One out 32 songs even if played badly is not gonna make me ask for my money back. Kind of being nit-picky and looking, searching, longing for a reason to complain.

The shows I've seen, including the first night of the Beacon on the reunion tour, he's played drums on a good chunk of the set. I'm not being nitpicky, I don't dislike John Stamos. I just don't think he's a good drummer and I've seen him play drums on way more than just one song.

Carl produced an unreleased album for Myrna back in the 80s. This may be from that, perchance.

Carl and Myrna also collaborated for songs on Carl's two solo albums and BB85. This could be from anything. Unless there's other information?

This is great. I could see it being in the end credits of a film or something.
19  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Bands not in the hall of fame on: December 28, 2013, 09:48:41 AM
Deep Purple is a must, but these sort of things are completely BS anyway. Why do we need some "rock institution" (there's nothing rock and roll about institutions) to validate our taste in music?
20  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: attn: Beatles record nerds on: December 28, 2013, 09:10:56 AM
Ok, this explains everything: it's not my copy of Rubber Soul. I didn't take all my records with me when I moved out (I have a really tiny apartment) and one of my friends brought some of her aunt's Beatles records over, so the 1978 date makes sense. My mid-00s copy of Rubber Soul is still at my parents' house.
21  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: attn: Beatles record nerds on: December 27, 2013, 06:15:14 PM
Definitely not an original, the back cover says SW 2442, not T 2442. The runoff etchings either indicate "ST 2442" or "SW 2442". See if this link works: http://s12.postimg.org/3qxlbdwjg/photo_1.jpg
22  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: attn: Beatles record nerds on: December 27, 2013, 05:10:21 PM
It was a gift about 10 years ago. I can't remember if it had shrink wrap but it was in perfect condition and I assumed it was new. My mom bought it off the internet somewhere. I called her and asked but of course she doesn't remember.

I'd call the label color maroon. I just took a picture, does this link work? https://gm1.ggpht.com/gip5-b0GkccCsQMva0SLINjN5RiXNc0MUqVq9mOQjzKadEVPUAiPnAlaMPs7fK0i2GjYgQ5aS874uVVeXGoJCACFRN21EzBYvDhxMLtcE6iW5QaiybmETY5dtOK8M8TGoUo70OIVEZWmn0uSVRSdq0HkTum-y9hr5jRyTI9d7EqZcSjfPFW2Xxj90VoiD9mSfJA5IGganEHbBloeQSPgkc-atZqXzvfPDH8DcgXDEOt_16qonvBRm5sPP8tlgqGFizD5lgSv6P6wRQQk6Y5b-lseUKA_0tRhdxZgyRfx1rwEXMf_HbSn6VNQIXvqzdd4_6qNSsmb6LoM0X5cZD1YUZtO7DU2McKbaUdD--OHYNQX1UuNANYhSyCqI8d9a2sncwRidYxUJG5ulnkPPGpceUcciO87RGOXIs4zR3Cz2Zw0SaQHPJBBJtyX7Oec2P4tiwz8yd3BVEgnD9086Hu2l0km5v9bRDjgudV4EU8dP3_romiRnbuwcK6R1hzwn1PlbnuYIwPIHpo3eFH7rOVbnxMjbaliC_8Z8Q=w1325-h539-l75

23  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / attn: Beatles record nerds on: December 27, 2013, 03:42:21 PM
I have a copy of Rubber Soul which I received NEW some time between 2003 - 2005. On the back cover it says SW 2442. The runoff etching originally says "ST 2442" but the "ST" is crossed out and "SW" is written before it. On side 2 it just has the crossed out "ST" and then "SW" written before it.

Regardless of it being ST or SW, the earliest (according to discogs.com) the record could be from is 1978. Now I sincerely doubt a Beatles record pressed in '78 could still be selling copies in 2005.

I would've just assumed that they went through such efforts to duplicate the album cover (though they used one from the 70s) that they ignored the catalog number.... but it's also in the runoff etching. And what's really strange is that someone originally wrote ST-2442 on the runoff, which is the late 60s/early 70s catalog number.

Can anyone help me figure this out?

That's a pretty hefty price.

I like the Yellow Balloon version much better. this just screams "HEY LOOK AT ME TRY TO SOUND LIKE THE BEACH BOYS"
