I actually met Wrinkles back in the day. It wasn't a good experience and I'd be lying if I claimed not to savour every reminder of his demise. The song is no exception; heartwarming stuff.

Brian doesn't count as Cow is a remake of an old Smile tune

Yeah, there's no way Brian should take credit for Brian's achievements.
3  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Al Jardine on Touring with Brian Wilson: We're not done yet! on: September 18, 2013, 02:40:37 PM
Nice to hear Al is singing lead on the album.  Sounds like it might be a Brian Wilson album in name only, this is the next Beach Boys album.  Now, some might argue with that saying Mike needs to sing on it in order for it to be a Beach Boys album but my point is that while Mike and Bruce have drifted to tour on their own, it seems Brian, Al, and Dave have never ceased to be a band since the reunion ended.  It's not the reunion ended so Brian went back to his solo career, the reunion never ended, it's just that a couple of guys backed out of it.  This album is THE follow-up to That's Why God Made the Radio and I couldn't be more excited.

I would argue that without 4 of the most recognizable Beach Boys it ain't The Beach Boys.

What about Summer In Paradise? No Brian or Dennis. Their two most recognizable members.

Not a Beach Boys album to me.

How about you Nicko??

Um... asking Dennis to play on SIP was always going to be tricky. I can understand why they didn't.

Um... note that I was referring to how Nicko argued that without 4 of the most recognizable member's of the group, Brian's current project couldn't be The Beach Boys. Which is obvious. The current's a Brian Wilson solo album with Al Jardine, David Marks, and Blondie Chaplin pitching in amongst others.

But by using Nicko's rationale about the most recognizable members not being there, I asked if he thought should count as a Beach Boys album even though it's two most recognizable members (Brian and Dennis, regardless of the circumstances for why they weren't there).

Whatever though, it's understandable that you wouldn't get it.

Dry English humor not your strong suit, I see.  Grin

Nor yours, it would appear. Tongue

Won't last forever, as Mike once sang...

But the good times never have to end.
5  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Sail Plane Song v. Loop de Loop on: September 01, 2013, 02:24:36 AM
I love the quiet eeriness of Sail Plane Song as heard on Endless Harmony, but the new version is embarrassing in its self-consciousness and unrepresentative of the Beach Boys; it should never have been released.

Loop De Loop has never done anything for me.

1. Summer Days/Nights (stereo mix)

Released last year! Smiley

2. Wild Honey (stereo mix)

Sadly, this one isn't possible. I forget the finer details but I gather the multitracks for several songs are incomplete.
7  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: BAD & Jeff Beck to play Yardbirds songs on upcoming tour! on: August 31, 2013, 09:18:32 AM
I'm getting a little worried about it being out prior to the tour.

It was never going to be.
8  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Soul Searchin' on: August 28, 2013, 05:04:58 AM
But the track - the instrumental track - is mono.

The core elements are mono but they're drenched in stereo reverb. The Beach Boys version, on the other hand, isn't mono at all - there's a guitar part during the intro that's panned hard left and is absent from Brian's version. There's also stereo reverb all over the track but not the same as on GIOMH. So it's a different mix, like Rocky Racoon said.
9  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Soul Searchin' on: August 28, 2013, 04:52:38 AM
the GIOMH version is the exact same track (it's even mono - listen with cans)

The reverb and many of the backing vocals are stereo.

Who was responsible for the sloppy ass autotune job on Brian's vocal on "You're Still A Mystery"??

Probably the same person who thought it'd be a good idea to drop shouty 2004 Brian into the bridge of Soul Searchin'.

Yikes, yeah I heard that. Why??

Not sure if it's Brian though, is it? Sounded like it might be Paley.

The phrasing of "out of my mind" made me think it was Brian from GIOMH. You might be right though; it's certainly not very distinct.

13  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike on Mick...Jealous? Because I sing better? Get more chicks?” on: August 21, 2013, 02:57:11 AM
Mike Love genuinely acted gay throughout much of his performing career, particularly in 1976. Kind of uncomfortable to watch him go limp-wristed, hand-on-hip in his ass-huggingly tight pants. Not sure what he was thinking. Mick never gave off gay vibes, despite his mincing stage presence.

So it's a bad thing to give off gay vibes? It makes you "uncomfortable"? Mick is better because he has never given off gay vibes? Is this in any way an appropriate comment?
Not anything wrong with giving off gay vibes at all. Mike's stage presence is/was cringe-worthy because he's always spouting off how he's been with so many chicks, and (from what I've read about him before transcendental meditation) was a violent guy always trying to prove how tough he is. It comes off as awkward and not very self-aware. Mick seemed confident in his stage presence. Please don't read things into my comment that aren't there, thank you.  Smiley

I admit I phrased myself poorly. I should have just said Mike looked creepy as hell. How's that?

Now you're equating "gayness" with creepiness. Wanna give it one more go?

Also, I really hope I don't come to associate this woman's face with the song.

Do yourself a favour and associate her face with this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=46B4KFFQ85E

Amazing to think that after Bruce and Dave singing leads on the C50 we now have 7...yes seven, official Beach Boys on live albums plus Blondie.

Otherwise known as eight.

So runners, it's went from definitive to least favorite already?? Bummer.  Sad

Err, no. He considers the version on Made in California definitive while the version on Classics Selected By Brian Wilson is his least favourite.

No fucking way. It was probably the link to the new version of California Feeling from MIC. Right?  Huh

Yep. Smiley

19  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian, Al, and David Tour 2013 on: July 22, 2013, 05:21:37 AM
Well that settles it, then. No more touring for Brian -- and Mike can ascend to his rightful place in the hierarchy as the only touring BB. Whew. Thank God our long national nightmare of seeing Brian play life-changing concerts is over.

Surely other people are entitled to an opinion.

Who's claiming otherwise?
20  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: BAD Tour/Setlist '13 on: July 21, 2013, 08:46:55 AM
Al was in good voice, but I think he forgot lyrics here and there. I found him glancing to Jeff a few times for help. Dave sang well, and his guitar was finally up in the mix.

What hold does Jeff have over Al? He's so controlling. I'm worried. Bacon bacon.
21  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: is there going to be much left in the vault after MIC? on: July 18, 2013, 03:58:53 PM
But let's say I wanted to buy the 16-track master for "This Whole World."  I think it should cost maybe 100 bucks or something.

That's one way of encouraging piracy, yeah.
22  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Live Japan - Jan 1966 youtube on: July 16, 2013, 02:15:56 PM
I didnt watch the clip but if it's 1996, it's probably Matt Jardine.

You really are some kind of special stupid, aren't you ?  Grin

An entirely proportionate response to someone misreading a 6 as a 9.

What is "Barnyard Blues," again?

An early seventies Carl/Dennis song, I believe.
24  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: MIKE LOVE WANTS BRIAN WILSON BACK IN THE BEACH BOYS on: July 08, 2013, 04:40:30 PM
You'd think Mike might have mentioned this on one of the previous occasions when the subject came up...
25  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Uncut review of Live C50th set. on: July 03, 2013, 03:16:36 PM
I'm a completest - I've got to have everything. I cannot wait to fork out my hard-earned cash for MIC.

However - I really resented paying money for C50 Live Album. What a monumental f***-up!

Does anyone know... who was behind the decision to release the album like this?

Someone who knew he or she could rely on people like you.
