Jan and Dean / Sidewalk surfin I get but what is up with the Hondells.  Did they have to ask Brian Wilson to cover that.  Why did they want to do that as their song so bad?

To put in context- LIGHT ALBUM is probably my #1 most enjoyed Beach Boys album last few years......i LOVE the production of MIU but god help me I cant get into the album past Al's Peggy Sue.  I **WANT*** to like match point of our love, id love to have that be a classic beach boys 'yacht rock' cut--- but man i just dont know if im into it yet....

10  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / 'Looking back with Love': it's not that bad on: May 30, 2020, 01:43:28 PM
I just finished side 1 and production/sound wise- I had zero problems, and enjoyed it all the way through.  Haven't gone over lyrics w/ a fine tooth comb or anything---- I like the sound of this lp the same way i like the sound of LOVE YOU- the production brian really invented (thanks again for another brian invention!) - you know what im talking about: on love you it is modern style production sounds and sounds fused with classic rock and roll style melodies/song structures.   now it was the 80s and they didn't have any choice, but it really was brian on LOVE YOU that was doing that back to at least 76 and the 15 big ones production- thats where it REALLY started.  but love you is what i talk about a lot, I have the poster on the wall.

Side 2 didnt start so good, i hate calendar girl.  Mikes is at least better than the orig, but it still falls short as a song.

Be my baby is good, this is what im talking about re 15 Big ones.   If you like 15 big ones production  you probably want Mike doing Be My Baby

Now theres an 80s style ballad.  It is good.

I'll tell you another thing: If 'Boardwalk' records (?) released this on early cd, I would of been all in

I absolutely think it's got crapped on more than it deserves.  Calendar Girl is a fail but that is more Neil Sedakas fault.  The production while becoming standard by '81, really owes a lot to brian wilson and what he started during the 15 big ones era.

16  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Please sign petition for Beach Boys to withdraw from performing on 2/5/20 on: February 05, 2020, 06:58:56 PM
I mean I don't want to see the Beach Boys now divided fan base like if you are liberal you must support Brian and Al and if you are conservative you must support Mike and Bruce.   Let's not do that-
17  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Please sign petition for Beach Boys to withdraw from performing on 2/5/20 on: February 05, 2020, 06:56:29 PM
this just solidifies the beach boys slogan that popped up when, mid 80s?   "America's Band".............they really are- they are divided just like the country-- Bruce/Al -- Mike/Bruce.......i mean we already knew they were split, but this is just very public now, and political.  Americas band indeed!

20  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: 2 Hours with Mike Love on: October 25, 2019, 12:10:31 AM
Amen. The Mike of the early 90's was a different man than the Mike we know today. He was obviously not only bitter, but it definetely seems like he had some self-worth issues going on, hence all of the boasting, and throwing others under the bus. We always talk about mental health in relation to the Wilson brothers, but it's quite interesting to apply that same lens to Mike. Sure, he was still riding the high of Kokomo, but in this interview, I feel like I'm listening to a depressed, confused person.

The Mike of 2019 definitely has a "Cool Head and Warm Heart" compared to early 90's Mike. He seems to be more comfortable in his own skin, HIS legacy, without having to diminish others' accomplishments. Recently he was been more complimentary and far less bitter. Mike has come a long way.

so you're saying hes 'mellowed out' quite alot, yea, ive seen him a lot recently and i get it

i saw pics of Al tonight for sure but i didnt notice any Brian, but the other guy said he did, i dont focus on the screens to much,  but i thought the video production was well done, better than previous tours- also the intro music is very exciting and good, similar to what the stones are doing this tour- i liked it
25  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Beach Boys 2019 Tour Thread on: September 03, 2019, 12:37:26 AM
