26  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: New Beach Boys 2012 Remasters! on: August 16, 2012, 09:04:57 PM
So just for clarification purposes; there's still nowhere that the Smiley Smile, Today and Summer Days' new stereo mixes are downloadable on the internet as of the 17th of August, nearly a month after the initial release of these discs? Holy moly this is painful.
I share your pain my friend.

They are around, just in limited circulation. Which is how it should be, in my opinion. The more they circulate, the less physical copies will be sold.
I'm definitely buying a few of the CD's. I just need some stereo Smiley Smile to hold me over until september.

What's up with all the Bruce hate? haha

My vote has to go to Al, I never really liked him and his presence, to me, is not very substantial. I always liked David Marks guitar work better too.

Don't worry mate, the prices are bound to go down but the time the release date comes around.
30  Smiley Smile Stuff / 21st Century Beach Boys Albums / Re: The SMiLE Sessions (CD, 2CD, 2LP, and Box Set) on: August 15, 2012, 01:30:16 AM
Favorite part of the entire boxset:

"Hey, we were in Japan a year ago."
"Today?"
(Slight pause) "I guess so..."

Cracks me up every time.

So, does this forum usually make people go insane from discussing faults with The Beach Boys?
32  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: New Beach Boys 2012 Remasters! on: August 14, 2012, 11:56:56 AM
That would be a really cool poster to hang on my wall.

NO, I am not really Bruce Johnston haha. Johnston is my nickname.  Cheesy

This is probably late but, hello all. I found this place looking up info on the new remasters and I thought I would stick around for some discussion.

65 is the year he joined also, that's some coincidence  LOL
Yes, it is a coincidence.  LOL
But, it's my favorite number and year for music, cars, culture etc.

Looks like Carl played a wrong chord.  Brian is not impressed.  And neither is McKayla.
IIRC Brian yells "Mike's flat!" to Carl.

Collectively during the SMiLE sessions, they all looked good and quite fashionable. Definitely their peak of cool.

Brian looks better with slightly messy hair rather than the mop top and a 5 o'clock shadow.
37  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Beach Boys Vegas Surf the Musical Closes Due to Poor Sales on: August 12, 2012, 12:56:13 AM
My biggest gripe with everything Beach Boys related is how they always try to market them as a California, surf, sunshine, cars, and babe ALL THE TIME. You don't see Apple marketing The Beatles with pictures of insects and actual beetles. I realize they did make surf rock at the beginning of their career but COME ON PEOPLE.

Rant over.
38  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: What *Beach Boys* Are You Listening To Right Now? on: August 10, 2012, 08:17:24 PM

I downloaded it recently and it's turning into one of my favorites. I also downloaded Friends but I'm having mixed reactions on it.
Your first exposure to Friends?  Or are you referencing the quality of the download?

I'm assuming it's the former.

Friends is a little weird.  From a "dark period" which began with Smiley and ended (sorta) with the more dynamic Sunflower.  I place the albums: Smiley Smile, Wild Honey, Friends and 20/20 in this period.  Very small, dark sounding albums.  If I may say, they're among the favorites of many fans.  Honest, low-key and natural.  To me, they're very sublime.  The work of a starving artist or recluse -- introducing an aesthetic of creative suffering -- which had not been associated with the Beach Boys.

They also became essential and dear to fans because, sans-SMiLE, they were all we had to go on and scour through for clues regarding Brian's lost masterpiece.
No it's a CD quality download, just the songs are not really resonating with me on Friends. I love all the other albums from this "dark period" on the other hand.

Not surprised. You didn't have that much to do on "Friends", did you Bruce?

 Grin

Haha! I just realized my nickname is coincidentally connected to The Beach Boys.  LOL

I guess you all can just call me Bruce from now on.  Wink

Three of the discs are on the way to me from CD Banq, but after reading all the negative reviews concerning mixes, digital noises & overall sound quality, I feel lucky that I didn't order more discs from the series.

I hereby withdraw my request for Capitol to release any further Beach Boys archival CD's, box set etc.

Now, they can maintain the "Wall of Secrecy" until the end of time.
You are truly a miserable person. You suck the life out of everything in this thread.

On Amazon we now have pictures and they truly are the 2012 remasters. Hallelujah!

Also, The GH has some bland artwork but it is expected from a compilation.

Ok.

When my Dad gets back from Japan this Friday, I will be ripping the CDs as FLACs.

I like to share stuff.
I will be your best friend if you actually follow through with it. Which CD's did he pick up?

So I really want one of these because I read on Amazon Japan that these are in fact Japan only remasters, which is a damn shame. Where can I find Smiley Smile for the cheapest price?
