In my opinion the MoFi Stereo release is the one I listen to the most, and sounds the best. I really don't listen to the mono mix anymore because I can't find a release/mix that sounds as good as it. I barely listen to my 180g vinyl reissue because I think the sound is a little shoddy.

Does anybody else hate what they did to Cotton Fields on 50 Big Ones? Instead of starting with Al's distant echoed voice gradually getting clearer, it starts out clear right away. I don't know, I always thought that effect was pretty cool. Otherwise, it sounds pretty awesome.
Because it's the single version.

Per Rocky's suggestion - convert to ALAC. iTunes will automatically convert to 16bit for playback within the Apple eco system, and you can use any one of a number of other players (or iTunes add-ons) for 24bit playback.
This is actually the first major reissue campaign that I'm holding out for high res downloads rather than jumping on CDs the day they came out. We're finally moving beyond CD quality audio, it's just taking a while.
I might be mistaken but iTunes can run 24-bit normally. It doesn't convert down to 16-bit.

The only ones I would even consider picking up are Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt. Pepper, and maybe Magical Mystery Tour if I don't get the MMT Box Set. Also they would have to be in mono, otherwise I will skip because I have the CD's and The Beatles aren't that great.

The mastering on the stereo Smiley Smile is pretty damn good, dynamics-wise. This may be a good indication that the mastering on these will be superior to the 2001 releases, which were sometimes dreadful in how compressed and limited they were. "Do You Wanna Dance?" is a good example of just how ridiculous it gets.
The format of these releases (mono and stereo) are ideal and should've been done ages ago. Brian's original mono mixes of all the early albums deserve being heard and preserved, as will the new stereo mixes. I will say, though, that I'm wondering if the mastering on the MFSL stereo Pet Sounds editions released a few months ago will be superior to the new mono/stereo twofer.
well, the MFSL Pet Sounds was on a SACD, which has way better audio quality than a normal red book. So technically, yes it's better. BUT It doesn't have the mono so it's all up to you. I berieve it was released on both SACD and standard. But yeah, 'tis stereo only. Oh yes, it was a hybrid. Red book and SACD.
