No offence to Mike, other artists, sporting events etc but give a thought to how many cars and gas it takes to get say 50000 people to a single event nowadays.
To be realistic, The Beach Boys would have helped the environment more by quitting when they started playing stadiums.

Every city is different of course. I drove 80 miles to see them in S Cali in the early 90s but on the train a few months later at another location. Take the 3-4 years of July 4th shows in the early 80s alone with up to half a million people a time.
Don't get me wrong. I am not knocking them but I am reminded of the oil crises in the late 70s. A columnist in my town said the highest gas users were football games and the lowest motor sports...by fan attendance alone.

One subject I think Mike has never avoided onstage is the age of the group members, and the band. I can't recall anything similar from Mick Jagger!

You know, the weekend is coming up and I think with 14 beers we could all see not only the five living Beach Boys but Carl, Dennis and Elvis moon-walking with Jackson onstage in our own homes with Murry calling out 'syncopate' from the side of the stage.

For Brian it was along the lines of 'my genius cousin, he wrote the songs, stays home, we pay him to play the songs, what a genius' and Carl referring onstage to Carls illness in a tactless way.

Read a Mike Love onstage joke in a review recently ('In my day, 50cent would buy you 2 gallons of gas'  ) and I got to thinking about some of his jokes and comments over the years. I think the RnR Hall of fame speech and alleged negative comments about Brian, and Carls illness are terrible. I say alleged because I have yet to read of anyone hearing them in person, only second hand.

Some of the jokes get a good response though. Any other good examples, bad? Does he write them himself?

I was at a show prior to the 92 election where he pointed out some friends for some lobby group who the crowd didn't seem to impressed with. Don't know who. Must be some other clunkers over nearly 50 years of gigs?

That said, if I were to witness Wilson, Love, Jardine, Johnston and Marks on the same stage together I would probably pee my pants with giddy excitement.

Lock Brian, Mike, Al, Bruce and Dave (no wives, managers, flunkies etc) in Jardines Red Barn Studio with assorted instruments and hide cameras 'Big Brother' style. If nothing came out of it but a 1 hour TV show I'd be happy. Anything else...bonus.
