AFAIC Brian for his next rnr album can go back to MY LITTLE RED BOOK.  I believe it still suits him quite fine

somebody else just mentioned (GIRL) YOU'RE BLOWING MY MIND and that sure's a fine choice IMO for him

instructions to artiste:

"you can't have too many VW micro-buses, peace symbols, or sunflowers"
178  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Why did Brian go with the title Then I Kissed Her instead of Then She Kissed Me? on: October 06, 2016, 01:32:55 PM
"We're talking an Al Jardine lead - he's a man of action, a lover and a fighter, a kisser not a kissee, thus the lyrics were possibly changed to reflect his character".

are we talking the same Al Jardine here, of the Beach Boys, who Dennis once termed as "a man waiting for a bus"

all told the title gender change doesn't prove to make sense to me, because the body of the lyric--as originally sung by a girl--is of a passive nature, and you really can't bring closure with an overt act.  unless, as has already been said, the next verse is "And then she punched me"

could be GOTB is one where Murry Wilson is standing in the control room shadows.  the songs not one of Brian's most adventurous of productions

"walking out in front of the car is more dramatic" - i'll say it is (try it yourself sometime), and conveys a sense of danger like it or don't
181  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: \ on: October 06, 2016, 12:43:51 PM
I'd love to agree with you wholey, it certainly makes sense from a thematic standpoint (has Brian ever owned up to his deliberately walking into somebody as if by accident?), but from a practical standpoint there's a world of unfortunate difference between 'walking into' any person you see strolling down a sidewalk, and walking into a moving car out on the street
182  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: \ on: October 06, 2016, 11:29:23 AM
the deleted scenes are good, if dispensable - brian deliberately bumping into phil spector on the street, casual introduction of tony asher, etc
183  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Advantages of Hearing Smile in Mono on: October 06, 2016, 11:21:49 AM
nobody could ever accuse me of being a fan of mono, in any case, except perhaps GOOD VIBRATIONS.  Somehow that one holds up as it always has perfectly fine in mono, and they can save themselves the DES trouble and not risk making things worse by leaving it so for good

i wish these early versions would be bonus tracks:

RUN SPOT RUN
HANG ONTO YOUR GECKO
LITTLE GIRL I ONCE GNU

there's this jan. '68 brian wilson interview about forthcoming S-O-T album:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hvzc2UXl9BU

But the official release date for the L.P. is Aug. 19 '68, which's also the date for BEST OF THE BEACH BOYS VOL. 3

WILD HONEY album was a December '67 release (the exact date coinciding w/ DARLIN' single)

FRIENDS 45 came out in April '68, the album of same name in June

DO IT AGAIN was a july '68 release

I've not been able to put a precise release date on the 3 record Capitol boxed-set BEACH BOYS DELUXE, but it appears to be shortly before WILD HONEY album

186  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Stack-O-Tracks: Who picked the tracks, and why? on: September 23, 2016, 02:42:49 PM
and the original S-O-T capitol vinyl album (gatefold w/ printed music booklet) is not stereo, just a variation on mono sound
187  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: 12 Most Underrated Beach Boys Songs - According to Mike Love on: September 22, 2016, 11:07:39 AM
we know KTSA album producer Bruce Johnston termed OH, DARLIN' the most "almost-Brian-Wilson-produced" song on the album (per the KTSA original release video), and judging by that early/demo version of the song we certainly have proof
188  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Stack-O-Tracks: Who picked the tracks, and why? on: September 22, 2016, 09:40:33 AM
DO IT AGAIN was just out then
189  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Question about 'Brian Falls Into A Piano' on: August 11, 2016, 07:36:29 AM
I had no problem recognizing Danny's voice with the bit of his vibrato heard there, not at all sounding VDP
190  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Question about 'Brian Falls Into A Piano' on: August 10, 2016, 01:14:02 PM
No that's Danny Hutton (not VDP) - "What A Thing To Happen!".  The line is from Danny's 45 record on MGM about a year earlier "FUNNY HOW LOVE CAN BE"
191  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Loren Daro comments on Brian & LSD (possibly...) on: August 07, 2016, 12:52:05 PM
VDP's twitter "Why am I always the last to know.....this explains everything!"  response is uproarious
192  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: All Dressed Up For School on: August 01, 2016, 08:27:54 AM
a few posts ago mention was made of a mono mixed version of ADUFS with added hand-claps that aren't present on the stereo mix made by Mark Linnett for the two-fer bonus track, where the song debuted

yes that mono mix can be considered the original 'finished' version, but everyone here's forgetting the obvious - the mono ADUFS mix (w/ handclaps) WAS released (officially) about 8 years ago as a track in the Beach Boys Singles Collection set of 16 CD's

I like that set because it also contains a terrific stereo mix of DO YOU WANNA DANCE also not present elsewhere.  It's (mostly) the instrumental backing track and comes across with terrific power--far and away the best demonstration of Brian Wilson's Wall Of Sound.  The vocals are turned up and in for the songs ending

ADUFS contains the 1st appearance of what I term the 'Brian Wilson (sung) Scale' - 9 notes:  D, F#, G, G#, A, A#, B, C#, D.  Which he also put into the Heroes & Villains sessions and later GOIN' ON
193  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Backing Vox 'Let's go away...' on: March 22, 2016, 11:04:26 AM
yes mr asher used to have songwriting LGAFA credit - you must check older pressings and printed music to confirm

he didn't get songwriting LGAFA credit because he contributed to writing the music, otherwise his name would still appear credited today
194  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Backing Vox 'Let's go away...' on: March 22, 2016, 10:23:24 AM
since as I'd said Tony Asher had songwriting credit for LGAFA yes that's evidence of lyrics, if unused
195  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Backing Vox 'Let's go away...' on: March 21, 2016, 06:42:09 AM
we all know Tony Asher (originally) had songwriting credit on LGAFA
196  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Backing Vox 'Let's go away...' on: March 20, 2016, 02:24:53 PM
Brian was trying to put a good face on the missing LGAFA vocal outcome saying that the song was better off without words--and while true enough it may well not've been Tony Ashers's original plan at all.  Brian saved his most difficult piece for very last and when the day came to record vocals Capitol pulled the studio time plug, not wanting to risk yet another possible string of recording sessions on a album they already knew they'd serious misgivings about
197  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Backing Vox 'Let's go away...' on: March 20, 2016, 01:09:18 PM
It's very interesting I believe to note the date vocals for LGAFA were scheduled to be recorded, Capitol scuttled the mission so to speak and had Brian do the PS album mixdown instead
198  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Pet Sounds 50th Anniversary on: March 18, 2016, 10:46:00 AM
I'd dare Capitol to include a Pet Sounds cut or two on this 50th anniv. edition in DUOPHONIC stereo - just for laughs.  It is the way many of us heard it originally
199  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: new article with some interesting tidbits on: March 11, 2016, 11:32:04 AM
there's irony there that I'm a little surprised Pohlad didn't work into the L&M script somehow - Brian is prevented from contacting his family with the usual means by Landy, so he covertly uses Melinda's cell instead to call Mom & Carl w/o Landy's knowledge, which saved phone numbers later gives Melinda the direct means she needs to make family contact and take down Landy

you know Amanda last night I was especially fine w/ Wes Perry's rendition of (IG)IJWM4TT, angry young man delivery though with good dimension (he even made an attempt to insert a background vocal line I noticed).  You yourself worked w/o script in hand (insert applause emoticon here) and had a good insightful point or 2 about BB Love You album.  Thanks, glad I came
