1  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian Wilson - 2019 Tour Thread on: August 29, 2019, 03:38:03 PM
Ok. Brian always hated to play concerts, but now, after decades, he became a real showman. People are happy to watch him holding a bass without playing it for the encore. Brian's place is in the studio, like Mike's place is on the stage. I don't expect Mike doing tomorrow an album like pet sounds, like I'll never expect Brian doing a real showman performance live.  Watching Brian in front of us on stage, is a great emotional moment, but artisticaly, it's awful! his band is very good. That's all. He should stay in the studio.
Well I won't post anymore here. To much fanatism and hate. It seems it's more like a sect where you have to say that even Brian's defections smell good.  It's only music, and we all love the same band. Brian Wilson is a Genius, what he did when he was young is unique. But NOW, his performances are Horrible. Bye.

I often read that it is not the real beach boys who are touring today. Hum... who will try to make me believe that Brian's shows are really Brian's shows. He can't move, can't sing, the backing band does all the job. Brian is not here for the rehearsals, but in the shows, it's the same. So sad to watch his wife using him like a puppet. And some people love those shows...awfull! His personnal renditions are an offense to his great songs. He should really stay at home.
Some people are happy to watch those rehearsals. The fendertons do the same, but they don't try to make us believe that Brian is a part of this.
And believe me... I really love Brian Wilson, my heroe.

After posting this, how can this mustomax say he loves Brian Wilson and that he's his heroE Huh Huh Looks fairly contradictory to me.  Roll Eyes

If it's a pleasure for you to watch this : https://youtu.be/wKEibZqSCFU
Watch it... for me, it's a nightmare! And you kow, I think Brian IS the heroe of EVERY Beach Boys fan. The difference between you and me, it's I don't need to put Mike down every 5 minutes to be sure that Brian is the best of the best of all time.

Or better yet, this.

https://youtu.be/FKOLPUUvq_I

It was 18 years ago! I'm sure you kow the difference with his present shows.

Mustomax, try this show from 2004, instead.

But I'm not speaking of 2004! I saw a lot if Brian' shows. The last one was in 2017 and it was hard to see. Blondie and Al saved the show. (Sorry I think Matt is not goid at all anymore...).  But Brian couldn't follow the melody with th words. Like an elocution problem... so sad!

Watching a guy who have nothing to do on a stage is a love proof. Sure... "this mustomax" really doesn't care what a guy like you can think.  If you're happy to see Brian on a wheel chair behind a piano not able to play or to sing that's good for you. If you like the show posted on youtube 2 monthes ago watch it again and again. I stopped aftet 15 minutes. It made me cry..

I was able to snag 320 kbps MP3 files of all three Jardine tunes using SoundCloudMP3.cc. If you are on Dvoskin's SoundCloud page playing the song(s) you need a copy of, click the share button under said song. Copy and paste the share link onto SoundCloudMP3.cc and you will be in business.

Thanks so,much!

YOU compared Mike to Hitler first. Do you think he deserve that? Read what you write before posting.
9  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Three new albums in as many years - more reissues to follow? on: August 16, 2019, 08:49:56 AM
Mike Love. Three new albums in as many years. Mike is 78 now. Time is running out, and it seems as if he wants to get these last statements out before he retires. I bought "Unleash the Love" and I liked it. Won't be playing disc two much, but I am glad to know it's there. And the Christmas album - Mike knows how to do Christmas. The latest, "12 Sides of Summer", I might sit that one out. Read nothing but bad reviews of it. Could it be worse than even "Summer in Paradise"?

Which leads us to the next question, if Mike can get these new albums out, do you think there's an outside chance we might get reissues of the older solo stuff? "Looking Back With Love", "Mike Love Not War", and the Celebration stuff?

Face it man, SIP is the Mike Love solo standard. 12 Sides of Summer is the most hollow of them all and they're all pathetically in the same vein. Why would anyone think that something good could be crafted by someone as untalented as he is??? The only thing that gleams positive is that yes, time for him is running out and hopefully this last batch of slop will be his last, but if he somehow insists on being ignored, there could be more and more which will only go to cement the fact that he cannot write a song worthy of release or pique the interest of anyone with earshot of any taste whatsoever. The sad fact is that he'll go to his grave thinking he's absolutely more talented than his famous cousin and that he is The Beach Boys.

What an horrible comment once more!  So much hate... horrible! Isn't  there a moderator here?
Idisgusting...

Yes, by all means, he should be banned just for having an OPINION alone!! And if that OPINION is contrary to ours, then it is just PURE HATE!!!  Wink
Right, because it is so wrong to spread hatred towards any one person, unless that person happens to be Mike Love. Mike Love is Hitler, Manson, and Trump all rolled into one!  Evil

Omparing Mike  Love ti Hitler... The only nazis here are the haters of Mike. So much hate seems to be a pathology.
It seems some fans think they are superior if they hate Mike... poor guys... and  they say Mike Love is a bad guy. Please... read what you write. I don't think Mike have ever been as horrible as you are.

Wouldn't there be a legal issue with release the show, since it was a festival and not primarily a Beach Boys event/concert?

That was the question I was asking to myself...

12  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: 1968 Copyright Extension Release Thread on: August 02, 2019, 12:15:48 PM
I recall that in some interview over the past year, Boyd and/or Linett mentioned that there isn't much (if anything) in the BB's vaults as far as 1969 *live* recordings, so I would say indeed we should hopefully be looking at some good studio material as the main release this year.

Yes...I remenber too! And he said that about 1970 too. BUT... we all know about the Big Sur concert of 1070! So... we hope he forgot smoe other shows...

there's a song on the lennon "double fantasy" album... one part of it sounds like "don't worry baby" 's verse "but she looks in my eyes and makes me realise"     don't remember the title...

Someone call a tow truck to try to pull Mike Love out of the 60's. This 2nd single is further proof that he should stick with singing Brian's songs and forget about trying to show the world that he's a competent songwriter as this entry is another embarrassing exercise in mediocrity.

Are you never tired???  I am, after reading your refrains! You talk about Mike, but you always sing the same songs too... sad...
Being a Mike Love apologist is a strenuous career choice. Either cut back your hours or get more sleep.

Who is a Mike Love apologist? I'm a Beach Boys apologist; And I don't consider being a Beach Boys fan is a career but a passion; I don't  always speak badly of the same guy, behind a computer screen. (but this IS YOUR CREER CHOICE it seems...) Man, you really have a problem...

The credit doesn't give details. They give the list of musicians. There's Carly Munoz, Mike Meros and J Foskett on the same list. (Jeff was there in the same time than Mike Meros, not C. Munoz...)

Do you really think "good vibes" and "Nice" are from 1989? for me, they sound like 70s performances (74, 75...)
25  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: 77, 78... when do you think they should retire? on: May 10, 2019, 07:13:55 AM
Retirement is hard to picture for both Brian and Mike.

I remember a few years ago, Brian expressed that he either tours or "quits the business" in this clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tn9nLxUAAmI

The idea of Brian retiring seems to be a more and more real idea, with his declining involvement onstage. As I've said in other threads, if Brian becomes just "band leader" or just plays piano, that's cool with me. He can take as many or as few leads as he wants. But due to his physical condition and increasing apparent immobility, I can't imagine he'll be touring much longer. I'll be very thankful to see him this fall on the '68 themed tour.

Mike seems to still be going strong. His voice has declined a little, but he can certainly still carry a tune. He doesn't stroll around the stage, from side to side anymore. It's kinda turned into a shuffle in place. Bruce seems to still have an incredible amount of energy for someone his age. I mean the dude's like the fricken energizer bunny on stage! Smiling and clapping non stop for two hours. Unless his health worsens, I think Bruce will stick it out with Mike until he has to retire. Like other have said, it's unlikely Mike will ever voluntarily stop touring, until he's physically unable to.

A 2020 reunion tour would be a legendary way to go out. Get the guys all together one more time. Sure, drama might ensue, but if everyone knew this was "the last time", I'm sure they'd be on their best behavior. The core members could certainly divvy out leads, as done on C50, but perhaps with even more accommodation for their older voices. I'd also love for some BBs veterans who played with them back in the day to be involved... Billy Hinshe, Dean Torrence and Ed Carter, are some examples of some of those great musicians who are still active. Let it be a celebration of the last 60 years.  Even throw in solo cuts to show each members talents... Al with Don't Fight The Sea, Bruce with Summer Means Fun or Don't Run Away, Mike with Unleash The Love or Cool Head , and sprinkle in some of Brian's greatest solo works. Close the show with the guys around the piano singing Love & Mercy, and I'd lose it. Brian could sit at the piano. Mike could take a break (like he does now during Disney Girls) or multiple if he needs to. It would even be really cool to see the core members do a number alone, no back up band accompaniment. It's definitely possible.

Are you serious when you say Brian can play the bass now??? He does nothing in his tours now!

Mike - Vocals
Brian - Keys or Bass, Vocals (?)
Al - Guitar, Vocals
Bruce - Keys or Bass, Vocals
David- Guitar, Vocals
Blondie- Guitar, Vocals
Ricky- Drums

...That's assuming Ricky and Blondie would be involved....

But who even knows if another reunion will happen. During the NPP era, given the title "The Last Song" and the Love & Mercy movie, it sort of felt like we were experiencing Brian's farewell, but he kept on chugging. Mike has only continued to refine his touring version of the band. It doesn't look like things are slowing down for Brian or Mike. Say what you will about them, or their bands, but they're obviously hard working guys.

As for what happens after the core members have passed, I hope a "Beach Boys" band, endorsed by BRI will exist. Hopefully under the direction of Scott Totten or Paul Von Mertens, who have great attention to detail, and wouldn't let things get sloppy. I'd happily see Mike or Brian's band, without the core members, if they were promoted properly. "Tribute To The Beach Boys" or "Beach Boys Band" or at least something to make a distinction... I'd be very upset to see a band called "The Beach Boys" touring after all of THE BEACH BOYS pass away.
