"Hotter" is such a kick ass fun 80s song that I can't believe I didn't hear it in the opening credits of How I Got Into College or One Crazy Summer.  It's got all the hallmarks of a perfect 80s teen comedy/sex romp theme song.  And that chorus is KILLER.  I really think it could've been a hit!

Also really love Water Builds Up.  Its the poppiest of pop.

From "Live Let Live", I'm not even sure what the lyric is, I just looked it up and found 3 different versions online, but my preferred lyric is...

"God, help me forgive babies who cryyyyy.... live let live not dieeeee"

Also, while I must to admit to being a life-long card-carrying atheist, I can't help but always joyfully sing along to this....

"I got a notion we come from the ocean and GOODDDDDD ALLLLLMIIIIIIGGGGHHTTTYYYY... has his hands on the water!"

Oh Brian Wilson, one of the few people that can make light-spirituality work for me  Smiley

"TLOS is the best Beach Boys record they never made."

Hell yeah!  I really adore this album, the only bad thing I can say about it is that it's not a full on BBs album.  Because, man, that would have been amazing.  Imagine if instead of TWGMTR (which I also truly love), the reunion album we got had been "The Beach Boys starring in That Lucky Old Sun"... a focused, themed album, nostalgic but modern, happy, melancholy, poppy, deep, silly, meaningful, SMiLEy.   It would've been the Beach Boys truly making ART again, and I think general audiences might've been a little more blown away than the generally positive but totally not blown away reaction TWGMTR generated.

Instead, it's just Brian, which is still perfectly fine.  Smiley

And damnit, I love Mexican Girl!  And I love Forever You'll Be My Surfer Girl!!

Just wanna say, this thread has finally convinced me to buy the KTSA/'85 two-fer, which was the only two-fer I missed out on.

You look nice.  What's your name?  You smell nice.  I like you!    Grin
82  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Here's a SMiLE Rearrangement Ive been working on. Feedback appreciated. on: March 18, 2014, 02:05:13 PM
I love Good Vibrations!  I love SMiLE!  I loved your mix!  A SMiLE fan mix is perfectly fine without Good Vibrations!  Isn't the point of a fan mix to do something different?  Well, there!

Also, if SMiLE isn't SMiLE (boy it's kinda hard to write it that way) without Good Vibrations, then what did one just listen to, if one listens to the official SMiLE (either BB or BW), and stops 5 minutes short of the album's ending?  Did one just listen to SMiLE?  Or did one just listen to a collection of songs from the SMiLE era?  And does that ruin the experience, one having to rush off before the album is completely finished?

I think we need to get into some quantum theory to really answer these questions!
83  Smiley Smile Stuff / The Beach Boys Media / Re: Beach Boys russian nesting dolls on: February 28, 2014, 08:01:42 AM
Thanks for all the comments you bastards, that's what i like to hear!!   Grin

"Any chance of a stop motion animated short film of the dolls doin' Woodn't It Be Nice when completed ?"

Hey, something like that would be a nice way to show them off!  I'll try!!  Oh I just noticed the Wooooodn't it be nice... har!

"When doi these go into semi mass productrion for purchase?"

God, I wonder what that would take.  I often wish I could show Brian, or any of the boys, the shirts I'm making, or these nesting dolls... I know some of you guys out there have connections to the band, is there any realistic chance that, for instance, a t-shirt design could be presented to Brian, or his people, and they would like it and sell it on the official site?  Cuz the shirts that Brain sells on his site are pretty boring... and I think everyone would dig that Brian's sandbox design.

"could you  possibly make salt and pepper shakers?  have the holes on mike's  pour out of his ass..."

LOL.   Cheesy  That's my next project!

"While I do agree that it's done good & so forth, I am not quite sure what's the deal with them having eyes with no apples, just white thing. Are you turning The BBs into shamans, dellydel?"

Yeah.... I admit, that's kinda weird.  I did that with Brain first, and my intention was to make him really stylized looking, and his white eyes were partly that, just a weird style, but also because Brian sometimes has that crazy 1000 yard stare, and I wanted to capture some of that.  And then Mike would up being way less stylized, so then the styles started to clash immediately.  But I stuck with the weird eyes... and now they're all kinda weird eyed.  I NEVER SAID I WAS PERFECT!!!!!   Roll Eyes   (but isn't Brian kind of a shaman anyways?)

I got the Dennis and Al sketch looking prettying good, hopefully can finish one of them this weekend!

Damn, that blows.  I often forget he also directed the first National Lampoon's Vacation, another favorite of mine.

Any video game players out there?  Ramis voiced Egon for a pretty damn decent Ghostbusters game that came out a couple years ago.  It wasn't perfect, but I'm glad we at least have that, since now there probably won't be a third Ghostbusters.  (which is probably a good thing)

I volunteer my time and my Beach Boys drawings for a new banner!  Yeah that South Park thing is just weird and what the heck does South Park have to do with the Beach Boys anyways.

I just wanted to take advantage of this situation and post this again...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sj5A-597o0E

Weird that Brian had a period of being a guy who actually stood up and sang while holding a microphone, stomping around the stage with a crazed look.  And sigh, the falsetto sounds pretty good.

I really do like the chorus of this song tho..

LOL, no Murry dolls!!  We wanna keep this a happy and joyous and Murry-free occasion Smiley

The order will be this....   Brian > Mike > Carl > Dennis > Al.  I'm basing this on a combination of importance and actual height.  So yes, Al will be the tiniest!

No Bruces, Rickys, Blondies or Davids, since this is just a 5 doll set, so I'm going with the 5 "main" BBs.

Last night I painted Mike's red beard, but... do you guys think Mike should be giving a cheesy wink?  I'll keep ya'll posted!!   Grin

Hey ya'll, I wanna share my latest BBs art project!  Been almost starting on these for forever, and finally got Brian mostly done.   Don't have a Carl sketch yet, but the rest of the guys are almost there.  Pet Sounds outfits.  Thoughts?

96  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The very worst Beach Boys related 'song' ever released on: January 15, 2014, 08:35:48 AM
7 letters: TPLOBAS.

That's the worst, no further discussion. Shocked

No way is it worse than Summer Of Love  LOL

I'm certain even Dellydel wouldn't be able to find anything redeeming about that fecal festival!

Hehe.  Ok yeah it's pretty terrible... most of the lyrics suck, the production sucks, the era sucks, BUT... the chorus ain't half bad!   The "girls are always ready for the summer of love, goooing out looking...." I like, and I like how the second line is sung deeper than the first, creating a kind of circular, higher pitched, lower pitched... circle... of love?  Ok, there's no way I can explain this properly Smiley

And hell, I guess Mike Love doing his almost-rapping deep voice thing is kind of a guilty pleasure.  Did I mention I like ridiculous things?   Roll Eyes

Ok, now lets talk about how awesome Brain's "Water Builds Up" is!  I swear I wake up singing that song two days a week.

I think Dellydell should be made a 5-star honoured guest for that post alone.

I know people have very different definitions of what it means to be a "fan" of something, but I want to share mine:

When I'm a fan of someone (a musician, an actor) I pretty much think they sh*t gold.  Since I'm a fan of the Beach Boys, I must think that everything they sh*t out has some gold in it.  And I do.

Back in the day they used to sh*t 90% gold, and maybe 10% sh*t.  Over the years the gold/sh*t ratio has changed, sure, but there's always gold to be found there, even if it takes some digging.

So to me there's no such thing as a Beach Boys song that sucks all the way, because if they're the Beach Boys, and they are, and if there's at least 3 or four of them involved, as there usually is, then there's must be some gold in that poop!

For example, the song It's A Beautiful Day.  It ain't great.  But Carl's "living out in LA... such a beautiful daaaaay" part is great.  So there's a kinda crappy song that has 20 seconds of greatness, but I must've listened to it 25 times.

I don't own Summer in Paradise, as it's been out of print forever, and it's kinda terrible, but I've still listened to it on Youtube dozens of times.  Why have I listened to something that's kinda terrible dozens of times?  Because it's The Beach Boys and they go ooooh and aaaaaah and how bad could that be?  And if I owned Summer in Paradise on CD I'm sure I would've listened to it 100 times... and that's THEIR WORST ALBUM!

(which is why my mind is blown... BLOWN... when I hear some board members describe songs or entire albums as UNLISTENABLE!!!)

Anyhoo.  That's my fandom.  And sorry for all the scatological imagery.     Grin

And for the record, i LOVE When Girls Get Together, Hey Little Tomboy, Bill & Sue, and I think Smart Girls is some kind of crazy demented awesome.

I tried bringing Beaches In Mind into an audio editing program, just so I could drop the pitch on "beaches" and try to turn it into "bitches."  It totally did not work.  But someday.  Someday I will have the skill and the know-how to create a Beach Boys song called Bitches in Mind.  Man, its been too much time.

(also, I totally don't hate this song...)
