Yay, thanks!!   Grin

Del,  I bought one of these a few years ago and have just found this subsection of the Board.  I am going to order more but I would also love the baby version. I don't see it on the site, only men and women's.  Have they stopped doing them?

Hi Mike!  Yeah, Society6 has unfortunately discontinued their onesie line.  But, they're always adding and removing and changing things up, so I bet it'll come back sometime in the future.

Now this is more like it!  SYNERGY!  What you guys think?  I think it's lovely and tasteful and nice clips and Brian looks almost comfortable!

Anybody know how the album has done so far sales-wise?

Since Love & Mercy has come out, it's been floating all over the Amazon top 100, must've moved a decent amount of units over the past few weeks?
30  Smiley Smile Stuff / The Beach Boys Media / Re: New Brian drawing/shirt! Surf's Up! on: May 29, 2015, 09:04:11 AM
If you guys like it I can put it on other products as well.... and I might still be tweaking it, so if anyone REALLY likes it and wants to buy a shirt or something, maybe hold off a couple days, I may end up perfecting it!

(and I take criticism as well, so let it fly!)
31  Smiley Smile Stuff / The Beach Boys Media / New Brian drawing/shirt! Surf's Up! on: May 29, 2015, 09:03:03 AM
i present you my latest drawing of bathrobe aficionado Brian Wilson!  This is inspired by his extra fat and beardy years, his love of robes, and his affinity for surfing!  And by that skit with Belushi and Aykroid where Brian tries to surf.  This is his succeeding at his surfing attempt!!

What do you guys think?  Is the likeness ok?  It's it fun and not offensive?  Also availalbe as t-shirts in various colors...

I'm still constantly listening to this and always enjoying it!  A few days a week I wake up with one of the songs from this album playing in my head.

Right now I'm particularly digging all the high notes Brian hits in One Kind of Love.  Really amazing vocals on that one.  And the vocal breakdown in I'm Feeling Sad.  Love Brain's falsetto whine in there.  I feel like it's been forever that his falsetto whine has been used as background vocal that others sing over.  (at least I think it's Brian.... hehe)

So, is the album really not getting a second push to coincide with the movie?  Does anyone know for sure?  No more singles?  No getting "Guess you had to be there" to country stations?  No "One Kind of Love" as a single to go with the movie, since it's in the movie?  No "Saturday Night" single!?!  Cuz it would be a shame if the album is dead already, promotionally speaking.

In my head I can see such a great, tasteful music video for One Kind of Love, just Brian on a piano, occasionally flanked by a chorus.

The messiest, bedridden years of drug abuse and weight gain are left to the imagination, good news to fans who will instead happily celebrate both on-screen depictions of the beloved legend. It was Brian Wilson himself who brought the topic to the forefront, in fact, when asked what advice he’d give his younger self or young artists today. “It would be a smart move not to take heavy drugs,” Wilson said.

Hooray, I'm happy Brian has eased a bit in his now-standard "don't do drugs" thing to just "heavy" drugs  Smiley

37  Smiley Smile Stuff / Concert Reviews / Beach Boys in Montclair, NJ - 4-19-2015 on: May 12, 2015, 12:31:30 PM
So I went to see my first ever Mike & Bruce Beach Boys show on Sunday, April 19th, at the Wellmont theater in Montclair, NJ, and…. Holy crap, I was blown away!!  I know, that was almost a month ago, but I just got around to typing this.  It’s not really a review, but some random observations some of you may enjoy.  I also have some decent cell-phone videos if anyone wants to see.

Anyhoo!

-The line was around the block!  In fact, from the beginning of the line, you could see the end of the line, all the way around the block, because there was a sort of walkway thru the middle of the block, so you could see from one side to the other.  Know what I mean?  Yeah.  But it was pretty neat!  While I was walking around before the show, one random guy on the street asked another random guy on the street, “what’s this line for?” I was nearby so I answered, ”it’s for a Beach Boys show!”  He seemed really impressed, like, what The Beach Boys still exist!?  And people line up around the block for them!?

-Bruce did a split!  A mid-air split!  Not as impressive as a cheerleader woulda done, but in the middle of… crap, I don’t remember the song, he walks in front of his keyboards, does a little dance, jumps up into the air, does a little sideways split , lands well, motions to the crowd, everyone cheers, and he goes back to his keys.  It was actually pretty cool.

-Speaking of Bruce, there was no Disney Girls, but he was noticeably audible on a few songs, and sounded shockingly good.  The tag of God Only Knows and California Girls sounded really legit with his voice.

-speaking of Bruce some more, at some point some girl in her mid 20s climbs up the front of the stage, goes right for Bruce, and sorta grabs his arm… Bruce keeps playing, the girl keeps holding on to him.  Then Mike’s “iPhone wrangler” or whatever he called him comes out and has to untangle her from Bruce and pull her off the stage.  Everyone laughs, the crowd digs it, Bruce shrugs exaggeratedly.  I don’t know if it was staged, but it was a cool rock star moment.

-Lots and lots of photos of Mike and Bruce with Dennis and Carl on the big video screen.  Very few photos of anyone with Brian.  Hardly any photos of Al, AT ALL.  I mean sure, Brian and Al popped up in a number of group shots, but so SO many pics were cropped to cut out Al and Brian.

-Jeff Foskett, my God, he sounded terrific!  I had seen Jeff with Brian last year, and as usual, there was something shrill and annoying about his falsetto.  This time tho, he just sounded amazing.  Sounded like Brian when he needed to, and sounded like Carl on the killer version of Darlin’ they did!!

-And speaking of Jeff and the photos and videos they kept playing on the big screen… there was a 2 second clip of a closeup of Jeff, singing with Carl in the mid-80s, which got me thinking, IS THAT IT!?!  The only single footage The Beach Boys themselves have of Jeff performing with them in the 80s is 2 seconds!?!  Cuz showing some more Jeff singing with them in the 80s would’ve really helped legitimize Jeff’s presence.

-I hate to say it, but it was a more enjoyable show than Brian’s show from last year.  They simply just sounded more like The Beach Boys.  Partly cuz it was really nice to not have Jeff Beck’s guitar masturbation intruding on what I really wanted to see.  But still, “The Beach Boys” rocked.  And opening act America was really good!  They played a cover of California Dreaming, and the guy told a story about how they were once sharing a bill with The Beach Boys and The Mammas and the Pappas, so there were THREE BANDS on the same bill that could potentially sing California Dreaming, but whoever got to it first, that was it, nobody else could do it.  Then he asked the audience… “Do you guys know why The Beach Boys do California Dreaming?  They need the hits.” Everyone laughs.  So then at some point Mike joked, “well, we were gonna sing California Dreaming, but now I guess we can’t…”  He also joked “wow, I didn’t know until tonight America had so many hits!”

-As the band walked off at the stage at the end of the show, Summer Means New Love started playing in the background, and my first thought was, what the heck, why are they playing Somewhere Quiet!?   Grin

-had a fun time explaining to the middle aged ladies next to me (probably way overenthusiastically cuz I was kinda drunk) just why Brian Wilson wasn’t there, and that Al Jardine was touring with Brian currently, and one of the ladies asked if any of those guys were Matt Jardine, cuz she knows he used to tour with the BBs, and I said no,  he’s also with Brian’s band right now (I think).  And she was sad and couldn’t understand why they couldn’t all just get along.  I KNOW, I said.

I’m still gonna talk trash about Mike whenever it comes up, but now I will add that he sure puts on a terrific show!!  He was a great MC and just the right mix of charming and douchey.

Speaking of lyrics, "are you as real as I imagined?" is a pretty clever turn of phrase!!

But what the heck does "late at night my head walks around you" mean?
39  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian's Voice Change on: April 30, 2015, 09:19:08 AM
What do you guys think about Brain's voice in the I Just Wasn't Made for These Times docu/album?  I hear some of that "cool california sound" back in his voice, and it somehow seems less slurry than stuff that came before and after.  I also hear some of his demented Mt. Vernon genie voice in it.

Is this pretty much the only project where Brian was trying this higher register voice?

40  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian's Voice Change on: April 28, 2015, 08:25:13 AM
On a semi-related note... when exactly did Brian's voice get slurry?  Is there a clear date when it suddenly changes, or was it gradual?  And the cause of it was... Landy's over-medication???

It happened. It's accurate. The only thing in the scene that is not accurate is the color of Melinda Ledbetter's dress

I think it started some months ago, but thanks for clearing that up. It looks like I wasn't the only one wondering.

Wow, awesome!  Thanks!  Go Brian, jumping off boats!!   Grin
42  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Love and Mercy - News and Reviews - First clip is out. on: April 15, 2015, 07:52:29 AM
So um, did 80s era Brian Wilson really jump off a boat with Melinda?  I'm gonna guess noooooooooooo?

(altho I know Brian will uncharacteristically do "brave" things like getting into the ocean on a surfboard for that skit with Aykroyd and Belushi, and I believe there's video of him cliff diving in Hawaii in the 60s, right?)
43  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: No Pier Pressure (board member reviews) on: April 10, 2015, 01:22:12 PM
So um..... has everyone figured out that after you take out all the guest-vocalist songs, your'e left with a really terrific 11-song Brian Wilson/almost Beach Boys album?  Smiley

Cuz while I love pretty much all of it, and all the guest star songs, I think a stronger, more cohesive ALBUM can be made without them.
44  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: No Pier Pressure (board member reviews) on: April 07, 2015, 11:01:27 AM
Up to #2 on Amazon, btw!  That means, for the time being, Brian Wilson is outselling Taylor Swift!!!   Grin

(altho I should point out, it's #2 on "CDs and vinyl", cuz that's what old fogies buy.  As far as digital music goes, it... doesn't seem to be... anywhere in the top 100.  But don't worry, Elton John's greatest hits is #100!)

That's it, I'm gonna say it, this is the best music video ever associated with the Beach Boys or Brian Wilson brand!!!!!!!

(ok maybe second best after Kokomo  Grin )

"sail away to a land without time, drink my water from a shell that i find"

who thinks Brian wrote this line?  Grin

(ps OMG love this song.  Love all the songs so far.  Guess I'm easy.  Lucky that way)
47  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Runaway Dancer available for purchase on itunes on: March 17, 2015, 11:11:15 AM
Holy crap, this is pretty amazing.  Just listened to it 10 times in a row.  I'm blown away that at 72 Brian is so willing to try new things, and incredibly, to pull them off so well.  We are a lucky bunch!
48  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian's I'm So Lonely vs. Sade's Your Love is King on: March 11, 2015, 11:11:51 AM
Ooh ooh, I got one!  I hope I haven't posted this one before...

I'm totally not saying anyone ripped anyone off, BUT, the intro to Diedre... well, not the INTRO intro, but as soon as the "Deirrrrrrrdreeeeeeeee" part is over

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dWR_qL_mxo0

... sounds just like intro to Arcade Fire's The Suburbs, which is more uptempo, but yeah.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHHLISaLe44

Also, Arcade Fire have a song called Here Comes the Night (Time)!

Eh?  EH!?  No?  Ok!  Grin

How could I overlook that great, great drawing?!? I can't believe I posted in this thread before without noticing it. How about a color version? That should have been the TWGMTR cover! Smiley

Hah thanks Micha!  I'm working (very very slowly) on the color version!  Maybe it'll be done by xmas!  It's gonna be awesome.  Smiley

Last night I showed my BFF this male eagle animation, which I had happened to film with my cell phone while playing the Male Ego song in synch to it, just the first 15 seconds, and my friend says, no joke, totally honest...

"what is this, the new Vampire Weekend?"

LOL!   LOL

(Vampire Weekend is a young hip band, for you old fogies)
