Smiley Smile Stuff / The Beach Boys Media / Brian's Sandbox - new Brian drawing/ shirt

Hi ya'll! It's me again, the guy who drew that Brian animation and then that BB drawing. I'm still not done tinkering with that BB drawing... but I have something new to show! Here's my new Brian shirt... not to pat myself on the back, but this may be kinda awesome Get it? It's Brian in his sandbox with a white baby grand, and it's also an homage to Schroeder from Peanuts! What do you guys think? If anyone wants to buy it on a shirt or an "actual print" I'll have a link for it later!

OMG you guys, brilliant idea. Beach Boys as animals! Brian is a wise old turtle, Al is a cheeky monkey, Carl is a loveable huggable bear, Dennis is a... maybe a tiger, some handsome animal. And Mike is... I guess Mike is really a monkey too. Alright, I have to go draw this right now!

Hehe, I never called him "mean monkey"! For what it's worth, it's a... loving tease. The kind of loving tease that you can only do to someone you love. I do love Al, and his voice is amazing and From There to Back Again is amazing and he should get more leads etc etc. But as much as I love and respect the boys, they are also flawed human beings, not to mention some mostly goofy looking dudes, and I think it's OK to lovingly tease your idols. You know, like, "with a voice like yours when you open your mouth it's a big put down," or "well at least I don't sound like mickey mouse with a sore throat!" I also think it's ok to call Brian Wilson "turtle-like." (and to be fair to Al, he didn't really start looking like goblinny until his latter years..)

Awesome.
You've been very kind to Mike's hairline...
Hehe. I've been kind to Mike's WHOLE FACE. But yeah, I guess I'm doing slightly cuter versions of the real thing. Making the boys look a little more palatable. Except for Al who will always look like the Green Goblin.

Cool cool! Who decides on what pictures goes up on the site? Whoever you are, contact me if you're interested and want a different crop on the image, different size, etc, and I'll set it up.
I might add Bruce and Dave in the future... and maybe even Ricki and Blondie, just for fun. But for the purpose of being a forum image, maybe more than 5 would be too cluttered...

Hey yall! I'm the guy who did that Brian getting older flash animation... and I have something else I wanna show you guys! I've always wanted a cool cartoony Beach Boys shirt. Well, I've always wanted a cartoony Beach Boys CARTOON, like the Beatles had their cartoon, and then to have a t-shirt of that. But oh well. So I'm making my own cartoon shirt! What do you guys think of the design and likeness of the boys? Do they all seem to be in the same style? Do you like the names? Should it say Alan or Al? Is Carl weird? Did I capture Mike's sh*t eating grin? Does Al look too much like a Spiderman villain? Is Dennis too handsome and un-Dennisy? Keep in mind, these are supposed to be slightly LOOSE caricatures, trying to keep it simple. Wanted to keep is as simple as the Beatles cartoons, but just can't seem to keep that simple. Anyways, all input appreciated! And also... if you guys would like a fresh new image for the upper right of the page, you can totally use this! (no offense to the South Park BBs!!)

Oh, I have one more thing to add! I've been singing this song off and on since I got the album, and for the first time today without realizing it I started singing the new bridge. And it still flowed really well, in my brain at least. So there, whatever that means! Oh and also, if the ruination of this song is making you feel bad, let slowly-aging Brian Wilson singing Surfer Girl soothe your senses: http://smileysmile.net/board/index.php/topic,13805.msg316685.html#msg316685(sorry for the thread hijacking, but I think a lot of people who may like my animation aren't seeing it cuz it's in the media section. And if you like it please go comment on that thread!)

Smiley Smile Stuff / The Beach Boys Media / Brian Wilson animation UPDATE!
|
on: September 04, 2012, 09:18:06 AM

Hey gang! I've got an update to show! Lots more Brians, lots more detail, better outfits, better Old Brian hairstyles, etc etc. Please lemme know your thoughts! Is '82 Brian too disgustingly fat and greasy? Is late 80s Brian too anorexic? I finally split his hair in the middle like he briefly wore in... '81 ish? And I shaved him for his brief shaved phase in '80 (Kenilworth). Keep in mind it's still totally a work in progress! Thanks! http://dellydel.com/brianwilson/brian%20wilson2.html

I know I'm new here and haven't posted much yet, but I wanna participate toO! Here's what I think... I love it! I think we, as obsessive fans, are exaggerating juuust a bit, as obsessive fans do. They ruined the song?! Ruined it!!! To the layman, to the record buying public, no one will EVER NOTICE the difference between the two versions. The main difference is a 20 second bridge that comes more than 2 minutes into the song. No one will notice minor lyrical differences in the choruses (and not even in the first chorus, that's the same!). The echo effect is barely noticeable and not detracting, and I only see one instance of egregious autotuning (Brian's "summer in looOove") Anyhoo. I kinda like all the changes. I like Mike's new bridge, I like adding some future tense to the song (the things we want to do, we'll spend the nighttime together), I like LOOOOVERS, and once I got used to Al saying "want" instead of "used", well, that works just as well. I think they're both equally great songs. They're still 95% the exact same song, so I have to disagree on anything being RUINED. And I think the new version makes the stronger single. And I think we should support the Boys, who are releasing a single that sounds 95% like a song everyone loves.

Thanks guys! Malc... it takes a long time! It's sorta making me crazy. It's hard to not attempt to be obsessively accurate. I might shelf this for 40 years. I wanna make Brian sing other songs too, and if I bring in the other guys then some better full-group song like GV... STE... I really wanna add the other boys, but then I'm not sure how I would handle Carl and Dennis' death, and then whether I should include Blondie and Ricky as well, etc. It would be cool if like... it starts with five sillhouettes, then they gain color and shape and you see it's the 5 boys. Then as time passes, if someone dies they just fade out of the picture, if someone new joins they fade into the picture, or something.

Cool, thanks for the tips everyone! I'll keep working on it in my downtime, but yeah, you might find a few bugs here and there. If you're just seeing the beard get bigger it probably means I just haven't gotten around to making the rest of him get bigger too Oh and Hypehat... it's mid 85 that he shaves his beard for good... I think. He had it for the Live Aid performance, but it was gone by the next music video. But I'll probably change his outfit too. Oh and Slow in the Brain... do you have any pictures of Brian in 1980 with his hair parted in the middle and his beard barely there?

Hi all! I'm looking for pictures of Brian wearing that flashy golden sparkly robe thing in concert. And also... is there a name for that look of Brian's? Is it his rock god look? Is this 1977? Does anyone know if that was a one-time concert thing, or if he wore this often? And was it a commentary on his often robed offstage look? Like, screw it, I'm gonna just wear a robe onstage and it's gonna be even more AWESOME!? Thanks!!

Thanks guys! Ok, I need some help with some photos now! What year is this picture from: http://dellydel.com/brianwilson/1983.jpg82 or 83? When was Brian his biggest size in the 80s, probably 82? Maybe that picture is 82, cuz this one is def. from 83... http://dellydel.com/brianwilson/brian_landy_1983.jpgDid he really go from 300 lbs to this in less than a year?? That's impressive. So then, what year is this sad Brian from: http://dellydel.com/brianwilson/tumblr_m41bt0SNqa1qhzyl1o1_500.jpgis this a step in between the previous two phases? Or is this him getting bigger again after 83? Not that he ever got very big again in the 80s. And finally, does anyone have any pictures of Brian being super big in the mid 90s? I found some from his wedding, some from that magazine cover story with Van Dyke Parks, but none as horrifying as this one: http://dellydel.com/brianwilson/brian_big.jpgHoly moly! Does anyone have any more from that period, or a better version of that shot? Thanks!!

Hi folks! I'm Del and I'm new here. Been obsessed with BB for a while, Brian especially, and always wanted to make some cool animation in his honor. Something that would encompass his whole life, career, the world, and everything. Well, this is the start of that, still totally in progress.... and you can help turn it into something truly awesome! (move the mouse left and right slowly over the image to age Brian from 20 years old to 70. He will sing to you as it happens ) http://dellydel.com/brianwilson/brianwilson.htmlThe lip synch isn't finished, the song doesn't' play till the end, I need to work on some cool backgrounds, he might properly "morph" from one phase to the other eventually, like, his hair will slowly grow longer, etc. I'd like everyone's input as far as what you think looks good, what doesn't look good, which Brian looks are your favorite, which classic Brian looks I'm missing, do I have a particular look showing for the wrong year, etc. On the upper left you can see the year of the Brian you're looking at. Did I get all the fat phases right? I hadn't even realized until looking thru this board that he became so big in the mid 90s! Geezus how the hell did that happen. Did I get the beards right? Am I missing any great classic outfits? I don't know what the point of this project will be in the end, if I get crazy ambitious I could have a number of song options for him to sing, or I could even draw the other Beach Boys thru the years. Drawing all of Mike's hats would be a hoot and a half! If the stars align I would like to someday contact Brian's people and he'll see this and hire me to make a music video or something. And then we'll be best buddies and write songs together! Oh-oh Landy territory here.. So anyhoo.... thoughts?
