1  Smiley Smile Stuff / The Beach Boys Media / new Al shirt + my old shirts + other junk! on: November 06, 2019, 06:08:12 AM
Hi all!

Some of you have bought shirts from me before (thanks!) so I wanted to share a new one I've been wanting to make since I saw Al at the Iridium in NYC.

I always wanted an orange "keep it clean with al jardine" cartoony shirt to match his orangey hair so I made one!

Available in other colors too. You can get it at this link as well as a bunch of other stuff!  (Society6 often has 20% off + free shipping sale.... in fact, there's one going on right now until midnight.  But it seems every week they have a sale)

https://society6.com/product/keep-it-clean2373480_t-shirt?sku=s6-11773543p15a4v75a5v20a11v49

On a related note, Society6 has been pulling a bunch of art down because of copyright infringement.  Star Trek stuff, Beatles stuff, Elvis stuff.

Weirdly the only Beach Boys one that got removed was the 1990s version of At The Beach with the Boys, maybe because of the Baywatch connection?  I dunno.

That one has been added back up, but still, I don't know if this stuff will be available forever...

Anyhoo, since X-mas is coming  Grin  I thought I'd remind you guys of all the other BBs designs and weird stuff you can get!  If I were a shameless self promoter I would say, doesn't your best beach boy buddy deserve an Al Jardine mug this Christmas?    Razz

Thanks for reading, hope some of you find something to like!

Pretty much the entirety of Pacific Ocean Blue is about four things: rock n' roll, girls, Jesus, and nature, sometimes all in the same song, which, to me, is a deadly combination of rock and roll cliches.  (which is not a deal breaker, as I think this album is much about about the soundscape than the lyrics.  But still.)

Hats off to the drummer's little lady,

Dellydel  Grin

Thanks, c-man!  What a neat little song.  Smiley

Argh, someone help, I can't remember.  What I do know is...

-It's from the late 80s
-I don't know if it's ever been officially released... i think it was played live but it never got a release
-There's a video of it, Brian sitting at a piano, dressed in a sharp grey suit, I think, singing and playing
-Brian is skinny and dark-haired at this point, and I think he is wearing thick glasses
-The song is sung from the point of view of a woman... it's something about how the woman loves her man, or has to put up with her man, or something.

Thanks!!  Grin

OMG somebody bought one!  Was it one of you guys?  If you bought it and if you see this let me know how it looks!  I haven't seen a real version of it yet.   Grin

When I make my ULTIMATE BRIAN WILSON SOLO MEGA-MIX, long after he's dead, (many versions of which I've already made over the years) you betcha there will be a couple to a handful of songs from NPP, just like there will be a couple to a handful of songs from every single solo BW album.  None of them are Pet Sounds, but they all have their moments, and those moments are sometimes stupendously good.

It makes me sad that for some people only the top 98 percentile of this guy's work is good enough, and that means the rest is garbage.  You're missing out on this septuagenarian's occasionally brilliant, and often perfectly good, latter day work.

Oh wait that's not what this thread's about!!!

Let's not be too hard on ol' Mike, even Sir Paul's doing it! (again?)

I had a Triumph motorcycles shirt for a while and only one other person ever mentioned the Bob Dylan/Highway 61 connection when I wore it, so that was neat.

If you ever want to make a "non-stealth" shirt, a version of the Pet Sounds cover done in a cartoony 60's Hanna Barbera style would be neat.  The lack of any good Pet Sounds shirts out there is depressing

Hey, that's actually a fantastic idea!  I've thought of drawing the band in a 60s style, but for some reason never thought of Hanna Barbera style, that's perfect!  I shall draw that!  Someday...  Grin
16  Smiley Smile Stuff / The Beach Boys Media / Re: new Beach Boys '92 Tour shirt / Summer in Paradise on: July 04, 2017, 06:11:06 AM
Very cool indeed, dellydel. Pity these weren't on sale at the Touring Band concert I attended. These have got character, unlike the lacklustre merch they were pushing there.

Thank you!  I've often thought about contacting the band/Brian and seeing if they wanna, I dunno, buy these designs from me, or heck, take them for free.  I would most likely just get hit with a cease and desist.   Undecided     I mean, imagine Radiant Radish shirts being sold at Brian shows?  How perfect would that be?  And how obvious an idea!?  Oh well.
17  Smiley Smile Stuff / The Beach Boys Media / new Beach Boys '92 Tour shirt / Summer in Paradise on: June 29, 2017, 03:20:48 PM
Ok, ok, I've been trying unsucessfully to come up with a cool new BBs shirt design for a while now, but hear me out, I think I've hit on something cool.

I am only being slightly sarcastic.  Celebrate the Beach Boys' worst album and possibly the worse era in Beach Boys history by proudly wearing this shirt!!!

It's essentially a 90s version of the At The Beach With The Boys shirt that everyone likes.  Personally, i think it's pretty cool.  Yeah, it's just a re-purposed Baywatch logo.  Mike Love totally would've had this shirt made if only he'd thought of it!  Lets all get ready for the summer of Love!  Whatcha guys think?  Who's gonna buy one???   Grin

Also makes for a nice tote...

Here's the site if anyone's interested!

I love stealth band shirts too, and in fact, I have one of your Radiant Radish shirts and wore it recently to see Brian and co. play Pet Sounds -- got LOTS of compliments on it by the way, and it even got me interviewed by a local concert reviewer Smiley I pointed everyone who asked about it in your shop's direction.

As much as I like the design of this one as far as the animals, it does seem a bit too stealthy.  What if each of the animals had one of each Beach Boy's haircut, or an item of clothing, or some other feature that would hint at it just a touch more? My ideas are probably really lame, I'm sure there is a better way, LOL. I don't want to wreck your design, I do think it's rad!

OMG, you must be responsible for my recent increase in sales!!!  Grin Grin  Did you explain the history of the Radiant Radish to the interviewer?

And hey, thanks!!!  Smiley  That's not a lame idea, I did think of connecting each animal more specifically to a BB, or at least putting Mike's hat on one of them and see where it went from there.  But it's so hard to really pin each of the guys down as a specific animal without it being a reach, or some sort of insulting.  Is Mike the giraffe because he's tall and yellow?  Or is Mike the goat because he's hard-headed?  Is Dennis the camel because he looks the most stoned?  Is Brian the elephant, because he's a big guy, or is Brian the tortoise because Brian is sort of turtle-like?  Or because he never forgets?  Or is Brian the goat because he seems to connect most with the goat in the photos?  Is Al the bird because he's the shortest?  Is Bruce the bird because he's the least essential member?  Ok I way overthought that, heh.

19  Smiley Smile Stuff / The Beach Boys Media / new Pet Sounds ZOO "stealth" t-shirt design on: June 13, 2017, 09:13:24 AM
Ok, I've always been into 'stealth' shirts, when it's not clear it's a band shirt, but the fans will get it.  Ok, so this one is very very very stealthy, what do you guys think?

Here it is as a poster...

I'm going for a 60s style in the design of the animals, as if this were a real shirt made in the 60s.

I tried to be authentic to the animals that were actually at San Diego Zoo back when the Pet Sounds photos were shot, and only included animals I saw in the actual photos with the BBs: giraffe, elephant, camel, turtle, and of course, goat.  I know what you're thinking, there are no photos of the BBs with a turtle!  True, but this photo lets me know there were probably tortoises right off to the side...

So there are five animals, and if one is so inclined, one could match a Beach Boy to each animal.  Actually, I put a little birdie in there, so there could be six, and Bruce could be included, since he was there.  Grin

So what you guys think, is this TOO stealthy?  Would it be better if I just put the logo up in there like this? (I know, there wasn't really a 'world tour', just Japan, and they didn't really "tour" Pet Sounds specifically, just a regular tour, but this is make believe!)

Or a stealthier version of the logo like this? (see bottom right)

Anyhoo, thanks for reading, and here's a link to the Society 6 store for anyone who likes this as-is!  :D

20  Smiley Smile Stuff / The Beach Boys Media / Beach Boys Beach Towels on: March 22, 2017, 10:43:01 AM
That should be the perfect combination of things, right!?!?  Grin

Just wanted to let you guys know I put the four designs I have on beach towels so we can get some in time for summer!  Look how pretty they look!

(this is the society6 link:  https://society6.com/dellydel/beach-towels)

And also also ALSO, these are on tote bags too, so you can make it look like you've been shopping at the Radiant Radish via some crazy time travel!

And finally, I'm wondering what my next drawing should be... would anyone actually be interested in that "Beach Men" drawing I started a while ago???

I had started coloring it, but then the band fell apart again and it bummed me out and I gave up on it.  But I've been listening to No Pier Pressure and TWGMTR and Postcards From California again, trying to will summer to start, and I've been feeling inspired.  But this drawing is probably too goofy and no longer relevant..

Anyhoo, thoughts!?  Thanks!!

Thanks Mike, that's awesome!!!   Grin Grin Grin
22  Smiley Smile Stuff / The Beach Boys Media / at the BEACH with the BOYS - new old vintage shirt!! on: April 27, 2016, 07:56:34 AM
Hey guys, has anyone seen the new Netflix show, LOVE?  In one ep, one of the main characters was wearing this great vintage BBs shirt, which at first I wasn't even sure was really a real old vintage shirt....

... but turns out it is, from their Atlantic City shows in 1983!  After much digging I found one on eBay! But the auction had already ended...    Sad

What's a (beach) boy to do?  Well, I made my own!   Grin

I'd say it's pretty much perfect!  If anyone would like to purchase one, in a variety of colors, you can find them at my store!

23  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Fifty Beach Boy Tunes Invade Billboard Top 100 on: July 23, 2015, 01:31:16 PM
I'd be more impressed if NPP was back in the top 100.

For what it's worth, NPP was hovering all over the Amazon top 100 for the last couple months, but I don't believe it ever made it back into the Billboard 100.

Thanks ya'll!

Undercover-m, the program I used for this, and all the other BB drawings I've made, is Adobe Illustrator.  The best darn program to draw stuff, says I.  (not to be confused with Adobe Photoshop, the best darn program to push pixels around)

As for how appropriate or inappropriate this kind of design is... I thought of all these points you guys raised, is this a time that Brian would rather forget, etc... but I had to settle on-- hey, Brian is a guy who never runs from his past, in fact, tends to be brutally honest about every single thing you ask him, no matter how personal.  And also, since a big bearded 70s Brian made a cartoon cameo on the On The Island video, it means he's probably ok with his 70s self still being referred to this day!   Afro
