Seems Lancaster crowds are classy like that: back in '05 my friends & I were giving "Sail On, Sailor" a good telling off and a blue-rinsed old biddy turned around and screeched "I paid good money to hear THEM sing, not YOU !" So of course we did the only possible thing. Sang louder. I had a similar experience on "Wouldn't it Be Nice" during the C50 tour in Detroit. I responded that I was only following Bruce's conducting, but the guy didn't seem impressed by my answer.

I think "Ultimate Loser" might be a bit too predictable most rounds to be interesting (is there any doubt Today!'s loser would be anything other than "Bull Sessions," or that Sunflower's would be anything other than "Tears in the Morning?"). I think solo albums would make for a more interesting place to go from here.
We have already found all the album losers (they are the first ones voted off). It would begin with rounds similar to Super Survivor. Four threads, each representing an era: 1962-1965, 1965-1969, 1969-1979. 1979-2012. Ah, that would be more interesting, then. Still not as interesting as solo albums in my opinion, though.

I believe someone once referred to this as a "pseudo-Wagnerian soundscape" which was "affecting but also mildly irritating because it doesn't get anywhere", and by crackey, they nailed it.
I don't feel it needs to get anywhere that it doesn't--it works perfectly in the context of the CATP album as the firs of the last three beautiful songs (the only part of that album that achieves anything like unity). Admittedly I almost never listen to it without listening to "All This is That" and "Cuddle Up" immediately afterwards, but I still love the song.

Smiley Smile Stuff / Polls / Re: Beach Boys ULTIMATE Survivor: FINAL VOTE

God Only Knows. I wasn't paying attention in the last round, sadly, and would like to be voting for 'Til I Die. But between these two songs, much as I like and admire Good Vibrations, this isn't really a contest for me. Carl's singing of "I'll make you so sure about it" and the last part of the song are probably my favorite things on the whole Pet Sounds album.
Anyone else think it's strange that Good Vibrations lost its own round but is now in the final?

A great artist and writer. Shame he is almost forgotten today except for the few songs he wrote featured on "Beach Boys Party".
I also recently found out that he wrote that song "Imagine" that Mike Love used to sing in the '80s. The original is worth checking out, though obviously I prefer Mike's version.

The beach boys signed over their archives to Capitol to release, BUT they still have the thumbs up or down on WHAT tracks are released. That's why tracks like Stevie didn't make it onto MIC.
Wait, are you saying "Stevie" wasn't included on Made In California because of Brian? Possibly... or Mike, Alan or Carl's estate. Any guesses as to why one of those parties might not want it released?
