1  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: 2003 BB Convention Reminiscence Thread on: April 04, 2011, 12:57:36 AM
Thanks, catbirdman and bgas.  I had a blast at all three.

FWIW, there are a bunch of people who were at all three of my conventions, and David and Carrie are two of them.  Who else can say they were at all three?  Quite a few people, actually...how many will check in here?

I was there for all three.  But I have to agree that the first was the best or the three.  The music was obscenely good.

And don't forget the lion trainer!

There were 2 or 3 Yahoo! sites as well.

I have to correct myself.  It's Ronnie Spector who is on Letterman tonight and not Darlene Love.  Sorry

Darlene Love's annual appearance on Letterman is TONIGHT.  It's almost always on either the 22nd or 23rd so this is a week early.  Wendesday night.  It's always at the close of the show.

It's always good to see Sean Macreavy mentioned at all.  He, and his stuff, is/are great.  Seek out whatever you can find by him!

Ahhh...the cover picture for Volume 2 of "Get The Boot".  That was fun.

I trust Ed's memory better than my own on this...but I seem to (probably erroneously) recall that she wound up in/off the coast of Oregon.  Mid to late 80's?

WIBNTLA is a great, dynamic song.  I was lucky enough to hear it 3 times at
Susan Lang's 2005 convention in Connecticut.  I sure hope to hear it again while I'm still around...

This is too funny not to post.  1:00 long.

I thought it was Audree, not Audrea, but who knows?

The Beach Boys could screw up a collective blow-job.  What's different than to think 2011 will/would be any different?

I go with the suggestion above of digging through the hundreds of hours of tape and film and get that out.  It just seems the logical thing to do.  Let 2011 happen however it ends up happening.  Record all but don't try to 'force it'.  It will be what it will be.

I'm too old and set in my ways.  I'd definitely prefer a hard copy C.D.

Ron.  I'm sory but this just drives me crazy.  'It's ridiculous', not rediculous.  Just so you know

Touche buddy.  You got me dead cold on that one.  I know better.  I think the comma is correct, however.  Anyway...  Thanks for pointing out the eror in my ways.  It just means I have to proofread before hittin the Send button.

I hope all is well with you

Ron -- Touche buddy.  You caught me dead to rites on that one.  It just shows I have to proofread anything that I type.  I think the apostrophe is correct though.  Anyway, thanks for pointing that out.  I live and I learn.

I hope all is well at your end of the spectrum!

Greg

Both The Red Barn Rehearsals and The Paramount Show are readily available and have been for many years.

Kayla -- Thanks very much for the lyrics.  I've printed them out and will 'learn' them upon a few more listens.

Good job!

It sounds great but I'd like to know the lyrics.  There is so much reverb or whatever that I can make out very little of what's being sung.  Google was no help.
20  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Where can you buy your copy of BWRG? on: August 18, 2010, 01:21:32 AM
I went, inially, to a Target Superstore at 3:30 this (Tuesday) afternoon.  It was not there.  I drove the 8 miles to a Best Buy that was closest to where I live.

I didn't find it initially.  I asked the clerk (after going through all the 'New Releases' of their display) what was going on.  She checked her computer and found 4 copies in inventory but none to be found.  She/they called in the guy that was most involved with cd's at this particular Best Buy. It took him 12 minutes to get there.  Then, after a search he went to 'look in the back'. That took 14 mins. He found nothing even though the computerizied inventory check said there were four in stock.  He couldn't find them so I said, after a total of 35 mins, thanks for trying.  As I was leaving to check other stores he chased me down saying he'd found it.  He indeed did.  It was an obscure place that no one would ever have a legitimate chance to see/stumble across.

After this discovery I suggested that the remaining 3 copies they had might well be better placed .  Those copies were in the middle of a 'rack', showing W-Z artists, and was totally in about the last place one might find a cd.  Middle of the display; absolute bottom row.  $13.99 plus tax.  Fine.  But it shouldn't have taken 35 mins to find and buy a cd that had been released TODAY!

Screw Best Buy!

I'm proud to say that I haven't looked at/visited the Bloo, not even once, since a week after the Landmark Dedication on 5/20/05.  What a piece of junk!

Mikie -- Good to see you over here!  You've been missed.  I wondered if you'd ever pick up on a new board...  PM me with your phone number and I'll give you a call!

David Marks was as responsible for CREATING the "classic, Mike Love version of the Beach Boys" as Brian or Carl.  His guitar was/is unique on those early albums.  If you'd ever seen/heard him play live in any of the BB band incarnations going around you'd know the difference immediately.  You could be blindfolded and hear the difference between David and anyone else playing the same stuff.

I can't define it but I know when I hear it.  Go figure.
24  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Recycled musical motifs in Brian's music on: July 16, 2010, 12:32:23 PM
"Car Crazy Cutie" is also just a rewrite of "Pamela Jean" as "Our Car Club" is "Rabbit's Foot" recycled.
25  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Murray/Audry/Audrey on: July 16, 2010, 12:15:00 PM
From AGD: ...or persist in calling people "Murray" & "Audry". These people must be educated or eliminated.

Amen!  It's BB101 stuff, people.  Pay attention.
