1  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Latest Issue of Guitar Player... on: May 16, 2018, 01:31:59 PM
For anyone like me who doesn't subscribe, I found the article online...

https://www.guitarplayer.com/players/good-vibrations

Thanks, ASL. A heartwarming interview. Mr Totten posts occasionally across the road.

And it is a shame that such a valuable person to a message board refuses to post here now due to one, shall we say, "long winded" , bullying member. A big loss to this board.

Don’t know if anything will be done about what you ask for but this surley will happen:

Sixstringstool will log in with ten pages of babble when two sentences would do. He’d pretend to be the worlds greatest detective since Columbo. He’d spend two of those ten pages taunting to whoever about examples over and over, taunting like a first grade bully. Then ol sixstring would say bullshit and/or f*** over and over . Then pat himself on the back. Then the ten people who post regularly here would chime in.

This is what you can count on. The other mods blindly let sixstring do this over and over. No wonder long timers also left. But they let ol sixstring do this over and over. Real becoming of a mod.

In the 1974 BBC radio special Jack commented that they recorded a new backing track  for the song Surf’s Up but scrapped it because the original track was superior to the new recording.

Didn't it sell about 750,000? That would be gold not platinum (still good, though)

Certified platinum 9/30/03.

Add to that list of questions, any thoughts on why Mike was bailing on his band in this pre-SIP early 90's era to play runs of shows with the "Endless Summer Beach Band"? If their label Capitol was hot on the band, hot on releasing new material, and hot on their archival releases, why would Mike shine on The Beach Boys and instead play Beach Boys and other summer flavored hits for paying audiences with an anonymous backing group instead of his own band?

It makes no sense to me, either. So am I to believe that after Still Cruisin came out, did what it did, Capitol still wanted a new studio album from the guys? Because my impression has always been that Capitol was not pleased with the sales of SC - #40-something on the charts, the single Still Cruisin' peaked at #90 with an anchor on the Hot 100 (although it was a top ten AC hit), Somewhere Near Japan didn't catch on at all....I figured the label looked at those results and said "well, we've gotten all we're gonna get out of these guys". Now if it is a fact that Capitol didn't drop them after those disappointing results (results, BTW, that I blame squarely on the label itself - I was a fan in 1989, and recall next to no promotion for the album or the singles), then what was it that kept them from putting together a new studio album? Brian's situation with Landy? Mike demanding to have total control of the band and album? Carl, Al and Bruce not caring? By the time they did come out with a new album, it was far too late. Whatever momentum Kokomo's success might have created was long gone.

Still crusin’ lp did well enough it’s a platinum lp

The Tenth Discussion
Theme: All Things 'The Night Was So Young'
Main Question: Why did Brian write a song about love affair with someone who's not his wife?

I've heard that this is a song about Brian's love affair not with Marilyn. It always puzzles me why Brian was urged to put songs with such 'gossip' lyrics onto his albums.

take Brian Wilson for instance. I'm quite sure he didn't insert that guitar lick just to annoy listeners

That's because he didn't. Try the mixdown producer.

They should have kept the guitar intro.

What guitar intro are you talking about? (You were referring to Johnny Carson in that post, I'm assuming?)

Is there a booted alternate version that I'm not aware of?

Yeah, the intro to Johnny Carson. After the intro Brian counts to four and the song starts like on the album. On the 3 cd Brother Rarities cd's.

But the instrumental version is almost like a different song. More instruments. And that guitar. That version is sublime. It's great. Wish it had been on Surf's Up. It's a great recording.
15  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: 4th Of July - appreciation thread. on: March 03, 2017, 12:27:22 PM
and that version is totally fantastic..  It will blow you away if you hear it. I play it over and over. Totally lovely. Best song on the 3 cd set.

gosh. how hard id it to figure out. people had enough of obozo's programs the past 8 years. clinton offered no change, she was going to continue obummer's crap. if she offered solutions she easily would have won. fact is, she had no solutions. the silent majority, middle class WORKING people, were/are fed up with oblamer's proghrams and their cost...obamacare, immagration, and the  cost of welfare (and having to support the 47% who are getting a free ride). they are the reason clinton lost. they got trump elected. libturds did not count of them to show up in the numbers they did. they decided the election. clinton didn't want 'em. so she lost. end of story. all who want their freebies here are upset cause they may now lose them. hope so. i have to WORK for what i have.
19  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / Re: Campaign 2016 on: November 09, 2016, 04:06:50 PM
Surprised at how many miss the whole point of the election results. The middle class WORKING people were fed up with Obamacare, welfare bums and immigration. Obama is/was/has been a total joke. The past eight years are what determined last nights election results.

So you're saying we should end immigration? And, to confirm, are you saying to end welfare completely? Does that include those who are trying to get a job but haven't been able to as of yet? Or how about those with disabilities?

Typical democratic response. I did NOT say to end any of those did I?  Welfare needs reformed. I said BUMS, not the ones who need it. The ones who make a living off the system and won't get off their asses while getting a check.  And yes immigration needs reformed. Can't keep letting them flood into the country just to get on welfare. Don't even mention Obamacare and what is wrong with that program. These issues are what caused the silent majority , middle class WORKING people, to vote why they did. Fact is, they got Trump elected. You are the one who put extra words and meanings in my post to fit your agenda.

You can't lose the "old timers" and prosper under these conditions. This board, like any board, needs them back. Threads they shared, full of knowledge, are being deleted..in talking to others who are still around more of these threads are going to be deleted.

Threads are being deleted?  What threads?

sigh...you  all are getting lazy. the research items, ones that brought a lot of traffic to this board, in the media section for one. the magazine scan thread's posts (for the most part) have been removed. that was back around end of april. articles bgas posted are being removed (some even in the last hour). laugh and deny all you want. what i posted about talking to others and more items were going to be removed was true. the magazine scan item's removal in late april have still attracted over 1500 hits, people who  wanted to read or look something up. those are gone. those people, probably mostly guests, may not come back now those items are gone. same with items and articles bgas is now removing. others who posted have said they will probably remove theirs. this place is crumbling apart and has lost lots of beach boys history for interested people. one needs to pick ones mods carefully.

Steve,  I'm extremely disappointed in you.  I had more respect for you than this.

You deleted it yourself,  and admitted as much on the ps board.  Why the need the post this under your second account?

whoa...perfect example of id address slueths. i am my own person. you got part of it right. i have known steve for years. i live in ironton, ohio. the same town steve lived in before the fire. very good friends with him. go to his new home all the time. in fact, i have been here all morning. using his internet also. he talked me into joining this board a few years ago. steve quit posting here with his last post after andrew's banning with his post "if andrew's words aren't good enough here them mine aren't either". i post from different locations also, check it out. never did i say anyone else but the original poster deleted scans/posts or whatnot. what i said was true. steve did not ask me to post anything. in fact i wanted him to post this but he refused. doesn't want to get caught up in all this drama. i myself posted thnis. yes from my friend steve's home. do it at times when i visit him. i am real, my posts are all mine, not steve's. and i live in ironton, ohio.
i think you owe him an apology. it was not him.

When a tread like this, which had ZERO chance of not becoming a bitch session to begin with, becomes the most talked about thread on a Beach Boy message board it just is further proof this board is going to hell. Lots of long time fans, who were there when the hits were new, who are no longer around for whatever reason, leave a board the board looses it's life. The knowledge they had is lost. Young new members come along, not a bad thing, but they were not there at the beginning. They don't know what went on or why something happened. The board then gets filled with all kinds of wrong, crazy "theories" about what happened and why. This board is suffering from that now. It will get worse as more time passes. You can't lose the "old timers" and prosper under these conditions. This board, like any board, needs them back. Threads they shared, full of knowledge, are being deleted..in talking to others who are still around more of these threads are going to be deleted.
