1  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Happy 80th Birthday to Brian on: June 20, 2022, 04:56:55 PM
Just getting out of the car now to go and see THE MAN! Great weather and great venue. I'm sure something will happen to honor his birthday during the show. "Music is in my soul " because of you. See you very soon. Kansas City loves you.

The one with Jason Fine.? Just fabulous. Waited years for something like this.

Highlight of the album is Marcella. And Alan's solo.

Catching up. Death in Family.
5  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: FINALLY! on: February 06, 2022, 03:45:39 PM
Maybe because it was a one off for me and the music sure sounded like the BB. It's nice to be fooled sometimes, but the Finally word came out because some other song other than surf and turf made the commercial. Hope that helps you understand.
6  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / With all due respect... on: January 21, 2022, 07:42:00 AM
The Beach Boys are coming to town next month with TV ads sprinkled throught the day. In the venue's description they state that Mike Love was the band's chief lyricist. Anything to sell tickets I guess.  Sad.

7  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / FINALLY! on: December 05, 2021, 08:23:56 PM
Walked in, drawn into the TV of Sunday Night Football. I don't know which mobile company, but the background music was I Can Hear Music. From the part I saw and heard, it was very well done. Took long enough, and it was wonderful. Anybody else catch it?

8  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Dennis Wilson 2021 on: November 28, 2021, 02:32:01 PM
I'd say the same thing I said to him the last time I saw him. "It's the hard workin' drummer Denny Wilson!"  I would expext the same smile on his face.
9  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / New news from Pollstar on: July 10, 2021, 02:13:46 AM
The BB are in the top 20 of Pollstar's ranking of concert tours, coming in at number 7. Good, but frankly I never heard of the others on the list. Don't have time to set up the link. Anyway it's there as of Friday.
10  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Beach Boys (Mike/Bruce) appearing on CNN 4th of July special on: July 04, 2021, 11:35:00 PM
As long as there are screaming people and a national TV broadcast, the end is not near.
11  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Beach Boys took at hit on HBO on: June 19, 2021, 12:31:41 PM
Last night on Real Time with Bill Maher during the New Rules segment, he put up that latest horrible picture of the band. His new rule, called Wet Sounds, dumped heavily on the BB. Among various other unkind remarks he said it was a joke that the BB say they have a new album out and who are they kidding. It wasn't fun to watch.
12  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Great 1985 footage on: February 24, 2021, 01:11:29 PM
Al and Al's voice make Crack At Your Love a hit in my house since the day it came out on the album. An album which reminded me of 20/20. The Beach Boys are back!
13  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Beach Boys bought on: February 18, 2021, 07:30:35 AM
1-2 hundred million dollars. Too rushed now to link it up, but it's on Bloomberg News.
14  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Johnny Carson, track from Love You on: December 28, 2019, 06:14:33 PM
I always loved that cover of the Rolling Stone issue of Johnny. It's buried in the attic. Christmas time I believe, the picture I mean.
15  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Pre-BBs history of Brother Studios Santa Monica location on: September 08, 2019, 09:27:19 PM
Yes indeed. Have not been blessed to meet Brian but met Dennis and Karen mid-70's and Carl numerous times. Actually had a snack and adult beverage with him once under the tent before a show in Wichita around 1990-91. A show without Mike. Baseball night game.

While on our honeymoon, we visited the SM studio. We were let in and then told that none of the BB were around. Anyway, I was there, inside. Part of honeymoon history. Early December 1976. Ate at the English Pub just east of the studio. They were playing darts big-time.

The reviews on Rotten Tomatoes are almost all good and very good.
19  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: BB albums sabotaged by one song on: March 31, 2019, 03:17:54 PM

With the exception of the Holland album, I can't think of any Mike Love penned song that adorned and fortified a Beach Boys album. Sumahamina, Everyone's In Love With You, Daybreak Over The Ocean are all sub-par product that didn't stand up well against what else was on the album. Student Demo Time should never have been included on Surf's up but I can see Mike pulling a meltdown by stomping his feet, screaming and even threatening to sue someone if it wasn't.  Evil

I think because of the times it needed to be included. When WMMS in Cleveland got a hold of the album, the first cut they played was SDT with a nice introduction from the DJ. WMMS was no slouch in the world of big-time radio stations back then.

20/20 - "The Nearest Faraway Place" Edit: well, it's ditty, trifle. Will replace it with "Bluebirds...", real spoilsport track in album
C&TP - "Cuddle Up"
LDC - LDC (dull start)
SU - "Disney Girls"
Shut Down 2 - "Why Do Fools" (ruins good album)
Christmas - "Merry Christmas Baby"

I think DG on the SU album was quite perfect.

I have a pair of Sunkist sunglasses from that promotion. Got them at the Ohio State Fair after the concert.
22  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Rare 1968 footage on: February 07, 2019, 08:43:47 PM
I've never seen this short clip.  It is apparently the BBs and the Springfield landing in Dallas on April 16.  They'd played San Antonio and Austin the night before and were supposed to play in Little Rock that night but the gig was canceled.  It's possible they had a day off in Dallas or were just passing through.

I was at that concert in Austin and that night officially began my seeing them perform 96 times through 1998. 96 shows in 14 different states. Geographical states. Several, more than several, backstage. That's a whole different saga.
23  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Listened today to Come Go With Me & realized BBs sing it better on: October 05, 2018, 12:31:07 AM
Anybody agree? Disagree? Btw, I read just now in Wiki that the song's been used as recent as 2018 in Netflix film "Set It Up". Anybody seen it? Is it BBs version? Let's hope it is. group hug Great Al lead 3D, it's really frankly *BBs* song.

I wonder now - is there any BBs song with imperative title?  "Do It Again", what else?

You are just now figuring that out? Been on a vacation?
24  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Beach Boys 2018 Tour Thread on: September 18, 2018, 09:38:51 PM
I truly believe that the personalities of Mike and Bruce was a match made in heaven. Their "togetherness" was and is a no-brainer to me.

25  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Beach Boys 2018 Tour Thread on: September 18, 2018, 09:29:31 PM
I would take a pill to deal with Bruce, WTF is up with insulting people at shows?

Billy and rubbersoul13 have firsthand stories of "negative" Bruce behavior far beyond "its all about the music" at M&B shows.

Please include me on this list. But my bad experience came in 1985 at midnight when the band was checking into a hotel. I knew they were coming and positioned myself to have a great moment. It happened as planned, except for Bruce sticking his head in my car and admonishing me for having my children up so late.  We were 10 minutes from home. He is a strange bird.
