Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Question about Still A Mystery

I've had the bootleg of this for years and always wondered this...
Who sings the high lead vocal on the chorus? The "It's happening again...." part. It sounds like Bruce a little, Brian a little, or maybe Bruce and Brian together. I just can't tell. It's almost too smooth to be Brian which is why I think maybe Bruce.
Any ideas?

I haven't met any of the Beach Boys, but at the C50 show in Cincy last year Scott Bennett walked by where I was sitting on his way to the sound board (about 45 minutes before the show), and I stopped him, shook his hand, and chatted for about 15 seconds.
Kind of lame, but it was memorable for me. I think he was surprised I knew who he was.

I find it a bit overrated as well. I actually like all three of the albums that followed it better, but I still like it quite a bit.
I have never understood the love for "All I Wanna Do." It's ok I guess, I just don't like the muddy production and Mike's vocal gets on my nerves. And there's some pretty worthless tunes on this record, which is what overrates it for me....
Stone Cold Classic: This Whole World (probably my fave BB's song)
Great: Forever Slip On Through Add Some Music It's About Time Cool, Cool Water
Ok/Good: All I Wanna Do Our Sweet Love (stellar CW vocal lifts this out of the next lowest category for me)
Take it or leave it: Tears In The Morning Deidre Got To Know The Woman
Garbage: At My Window (who's decision put this on the album? Blech)
This is probably my 6th-7th favorite album the band made.

I'm not sure when I'll be able to afford the box set, so I went ahead and listened to it.
Would've been great on Surf's Up LP. Not quite up to the hype, but still very, very good. It's truly amazing a song this good has been in the vaults for 40 years. Most bands would've made a career on a song like this, and for our boys, it's gone unheard for all this time. Crazy.
Relieved to finally hear it.

This is pretty cool overall...lead vocal is much better than Carl's on the album version (not hard...Carl's weakest vocal performance, imo). It is rushed...it would have rocked harder if it was slowed down slightly. Also, Mike really, really sucks at playing the theramin. I mean, I know it's not an easy thing to play, but if it's going to be that out of tune, leave it out of the performance altogether.

Moon Dawg
Bad choice, friend. "Moon Dawg" is one of the few real surf songs on the album. It was a toss up between "County Fair" and "Little Girl You're My Miss America", both of which feature rather insipid lead vocals, but I vote for "County Fair" as worst track. Um, well, being a subjective thing and all...

I just listened to CF for the first time...gotta say, I'm not anywhere near as impressed with it as a lot of people. The harmonies are really nice and Bruce sounds good, but I really don't care for Brian on this, and honestly, Carl sounds terrible on this.
It is still better than the Classics version...I don't know that I rate it any higher than Al's Postcard version. Al's voice is really strong on that, the BGVs are solid and the gospel piano is rocking....
Just not overwhelmed with this version.

To be fair, that review could have been written by any fan before hearing the boxset! Yes, it's pretty much a review of the press release and tracklisting. You listen to a 7.5 hour box and have nothing new to say? Nothing on the 65 unreleased tracks to comment on? Thanks for publishing that, Examiner. Examiner isn't exactly known for its useful, reliable reporting. I am. I didn't mean to offend what you did. I enjoyed reading your article. I'm just saying that most of the articles on the website are very speculative and not entirely professional. Yeah, why would anyone take offense at that?
