Yes. I love it.  The vocal tracks aren't my favorite as I don't care for his voice all that much, but the instrumentals are smokin'.  There's a lot of energy and drive on those tracks.

I've often wondered if BW had some guitar ability other than Bass Guitar...it's a lot easier to transition from 6-string guitar to 4-string bass than it is the other way around...

So, can C-Man or ADG or anyone else confirm that Brian played guitar on BB's recordings?
5  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Saddest Song on: February 03, 2015, 06:41:41 AM
'Til I Die
I Just Wasn't Made For These Times

I also find In My Room kind of a downer...it's beautiful, mind you, just sad.

Also, a lot of Dennis' music sounds sad even if the lyrical content isn't...Example:  Cuddle Up sounds really melancholy, just from the music.
6  Smiley Smile Stuff / BRIAN WILSON Q & A / What do you think of all the younger artists that claim you as inspiration? on: January 25, 2015, 02:08:18 PM
So many younger artists have claimed in the last 20 years or so that you are a big influence on their music. How do you feel about that? Who are some of these artists that you enjoy?
7  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: *Merged* Brian Wilson current album thread on: November 06, 2014, 04:59:11 PM
For some reason I wonder if Joe Thomas has ever heard the Wiod Honey or So Tough albums....

Maybe just me.

Howie, you may be manufacturing drama that simply isn't there in this situation.
9  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Some questions about TWGMTR ... on: September 24, 2014, 04:23:20 AM
Mike and Bruce are both very clearly audible on TPLOBAS. I hear Bruce on  TATD, too.

Sweet Lord, that is a horrible album title. Yuck.

So much anger.

I know, right? I've never seen someone so angrily post a link before.

Thank you for your valuable contribution to the discussion.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha....The guardian? Really? Hahahahahaha. What a joke of a link.

The first paragraph says it all when it blames the Apple/U2 deal for devaluing the music album. Apple may well have done that, but it wasn't last Tuesday, it was 10 years ago when they created iTunes.

Using the Guardian to strengthen your argument of distaste for anything is a weak-ass move.

So much anger. Sad little Disney Boy.

To me the question isn't should Bono f**k off, but how far off he should f**k...

It must be a sad, sad life to be so angry.

Perhaps you and HypeHat can wallow in your pathetic misery together?
15  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Bono Pays Tribute to Brian on: September 11, 2014, 06:56:04 AM
I love U2, I own all of their albums. The Unforgettable Fire is one of my favorite records. They aren't one of the most popular bands in the world because they make shitty music!

That being said, I think it was a lousy move on their part to release this new album the way they did. It surprises me not that people hate this band so much - for this music to automatically show up in your itunes library - it's insanely pretentious to think that every person with an Apple device wants to (or should) listen to this album. Not mention the unveiling of an 'artistic statement' being done at an Apple presentation. The whole thing just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

As an Apple fan, and a U2 fan, this last Tuesday was rather disappointing.

Good Lord. Don't f***ing listen to it then. No one is forcing you to. In fact, Apple didn't force anyone to put the album on their devices as is being widely and falsely claimed. They purchased it for those devices and the users have the option to click to download it or not. There are millions of U2 fans that appreciate the gesture I'm sure, so why hate on them for simply inconveniencing users so much as making them NOT click to download or simply delete it? It's not that hard to not listen to it or download it while respecting that a lot of people really like free music from their favorite bands.

Hypehat....Jesus, man, you have some anger issues.

So, great enlightened and informed one, explain to me how U2 is criminal.

If it's the tax stuff, you're wrong. It wasn't evasion or anything remotely criminal. They moved their business operations in order to pay lower taxes. Criminal or smart business?

You're an ignorant man.
17  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Bono Pays Tribute to Brian on: September 10, 2014, 07:03:51 PM
it's popular to hate Bono. I have no knowledge of anything he has done for deserving the vitriol.

some people just band on the hate wagon, what can you do? Roll Eyes

Breathtaking hypocrisy, corporate arse-licking and tax-dodging on an enormous scale all spring to mind...

Oh, and his band's music is sh*t.

YAWN....same old haters spiel....those things are bullshit if you're grounded in any sort of reality at all. Also, FWIW, 35 years into their career and they've made significantly less sh*t music than our beloved boys from Hawthorne. They've never made an MIU, SIP, or theme song to Problem Child.
18  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Bono Pays Tribute to Brian on: September 10, 2014, 05:08:10 AM
It's funny how pretentious people have gotten in calling Bono/U2 pretentious.  Does he take himself too seriously at times? Sure. Is  he a good person and a genuine, generous man who bucks the celebrity culture stereotype. Absolutely.  It's long been "cool" to hate on him, all the while he just keeps making killer tunes with his awesome band, helping the less fortunate, and making a shitload more money than all the jealous haters.

I'm a U2 über fan and proud of it. In fact, besides BW and The Beatles, if even them,  no musicians have had the impact on my life.
19  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Best Live Albums Ever! on: August 31, 2014, 03:40:49 PM
Beach boys: In Concert
Cash: Folsom Prison
CSNY: 4 Way Street
U2: U22
Paul Simon: Concert In The Park
Derek and The Dominos: Fillmore
Brian Wilson: Roxy
The Band: Last Waltz
REM: Live

And my two all time favorite live albums....

Allison Krauss and Union Station: Live
The Guess Who: live at the Paramount

That Guess Who record is absolutely killer...a criminally underrated band in their prime.
20  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Somewhere, there's a person whose favorite Beach Boys LP is Summer in Paradise.. on: August 22, 2014, 08:14:38 AM
Nowhere near my favorite album (in fact, it's in my bottom 5 BBs albums, for sure) but there are some nice moments on the CD, despite how dated and terrible the production is.  The non-Mike vocals throughout the album are nice, especially One Summer Night and STrange Things Happen.  Lahaina Aloha is a standout, and the live performances of the title track are quite nice.... (MIC) version is pretty cool.

Summer of Love is without question the worst track ever to bear the name The Beach Boys on it.  Truly abysmal.  Remember Walkin In The Sand is also pretty bad and the Surfin' remake is quite bad, despite nice vocals from CW.

I have owned two copies of this....bought one at a local music store in 1993 and lost it somewhere over the years...bought another copy used around 2000 for $3.95.  Every so often, I'll skim through it on my iPod.
21  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Can someone explain how R&R Music was a Top 10 hit for 6 weeks? on: August 22, 2014, 08:09:47 AM
I've always enjoyed the BBs recording and live performances of this song.  I think it's fun, catchy and rocks along quite well.  It was really good in the C50 show I saw (Cincy) in that long string of nothing but hits towards the end of the show.  The single version is almost unarguably better, and the MIC version is pretty good too.
22  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike & Bruce and Friend on Fox And Friends on: August 16, 2014, 02:20:38 PM

Ouch. I'm not typically a Mike/Bruce basher. In fact I normally enjoy footage of them and would definitely go see them if they ever played near me. However, this sounds as bad as anything I've heard them do since at least Mike Kawalski (sp?) was still drumming for them. Maybe part of it is the mix but the vocals are really sloppy and weak, and the band just sounds thin. They ought to add a multi-instrumentalist to beef up the sound a bit with a little percussion, additional keyboard and guitar, etc.

Not only my first BBs release, but my first cd. Spring of 1993, 11 years old, hooked ever since.

I wanted to punch Bill Champlin after reading that, but there are two sides to every story.

What did Champlin say? I've searched and can't really find anything but reaction to it. I'm a big fan of his and didn't know he had said negative things about BW.
