Catch A Wave, Be With Me and The Trader are the three biggest favorites that i tend to stay away from. I know that I should like them, but I just... don't. I don't like The Trader either. Never got why people like it so much.

It's something to do with the incredible moog bass, the stunning backing vocals, the killer melodic first half and the gorgeous second, the career-best Rieley lyrics and Carl delivering one of his best, most heart-felt vocals ever... At least that's why I like it.

And, judging by nearly everything I've read in the past 12 months, most people seem to consider those final 3 tracks the highlight of the album, and arguably the best tracks the band has released in nearly 35 years. If that isn't "comprehensive box set material"...I don't know what is!

I completely agree on the merits of the suite material.  It's hands-down some of the best BB material in decades, and I'm with you, it should have been included in some way, shape or form.

I'm still hoping we get to hear the complete suite one day.




Oh, and think I may have uncovered the identity of the mysterious Wilson.  It's Brian.

Maybe the suite, or some of it will be on Brian's solo album. Fingers crossed!

Great list and I agree with them all, but you are missing a Hot Rod song. Since these songs are fairly short there is probably room here to fit Shut Down and/or Little Deuce Coupe, and I really think Fun Fun Fun (in mono) needs to be included, as well.


Edit: With all 3 added it is less than 65 minutes total time.

I heard God Only Knows in Walmart of all places, and it was as if time slowed down. I was looking around, and found several other people singing along. It was beautiful.

NO alternate takes, mixes, mono mixes, stereo mixes, binaural mixes, instrumental mixes, a cappella mixes. Waste of space.

Brrr, i shudder when i read stuff like this. I live for this kind of material and i am wishing and hoping and praying that the box set is filled to the brim with backing tracks, vocals only mixes, and alternate versions. Actually, my dream Beach Boys box set, other than a really solid, maybe shorter, rarities-only set would be an entire set comprised of instrumental and a cappella mixes. I would treasure that like no other worldly possession.

Also, i'm not one whose got non-BB box sets on my radar much, so i haven't kept up, but i was under the impression that the very quintessential '80s and '90s long, slim design (like the GV and PS sets) are no longer in vogue and now a thing of the past. Or do they still put out box sets like that? If so, do they still have that goofy plastic tray insert to hold all the contents in place?

Not sure if this has been asked before, but who is singing the Dom Dom Kingdom part on Radio King Dom? Blondie?

I always thought it was Carl (I was under a vague impression, I don't know from where, that he and Brian were the only Beach Boys on the track), but listening again it sounds very like Billy Hinsche, actually... doesn't sound like Blondie to my ears.

Definitely doesn't sound like Carl to me, but you never know!

I guess I didn't expect a definitive answer, it just seems like they're can't be much of a chance left. At least to me. I expect they're a hassle to put together. All the more reason to love this one I guess.
