Despite all of it's flaws, I have a soft spot for Steven Gaines' Heroes and Villains, if only for all the recounting of Dennis' last days and the little details about all the business deals . And don't forget The Lost Beach Boy, that Jon Stebbins wrote with Dave Marks a few years back, lots of history of the BBs early days.

When I was 14 I read the first two chapters of thr first Harry Potter book. I absolutely hated it, don't really remember why, but I disliked it enough to swear off the rest of the books and all of the movies. I would probably dismiss it as a children's book if I tried going back to it now at age 33.

I'm not sure what's gone on with Matt, but my guess is that he's just missing this last leg.
I've never been super familiar with Bonfiglio, beyond noticing that he has of course worked with Carnie/The Wilsons/Wilson Phillips and that orb (as has Matt Jardine). I wouldn't have assumed he would be a "falsetto guy." I've listened to a few YouTube clips from the beginning of the BW tour and he seems to sound just fine. I mean, I think Matt is by far the best guy they've had in that role so I hope he's coming back. But this seems like a fine fill-in (I would understand if they didn't try to phone up Eichenburger to fill in considering his seemingly abrupt jump to Mike's band a few years ago).
Obviously he's "worked" with Carnie, being her husband and all.

There was an official complete singles box put out by Capitol about 10 years ago. Don't know anything about Various Denny, but Denny Remembered Vols. 1 and 2 is just a comp of different bootlegged Dennis songs, and tbe sound quality leaves a lot to be desired. A lot of the tracks from Denny Remembered are available in full fidelity on the POB/Bambu Legacy Edition reissue. Unfortunately, I won't be posting any downloads as trading bootlegs is against board policy.

Margarita wasn't even a character in the song until 2004, it was originally "margaritas", as in the drink, keeping the spirit high.
EDIT: Never mind, I must be off my rocker. Margarita the woman is in the original. "Dance, Margarita, dance...".

I first became aware of the Beach Boys circa 1992/93, about age 6 or 7, when my mom went on a house cleaning kick for several days and would keep replaying her copy of Endless Summer. She always started it on side 4, so the first BB song I ever heard was California Girls. A short time later I saw this old white-haired guy on Full House, and my mom pointed out to me it was The Beach Boys. I didn't believe her at first, this guy didn't look a thing like any of the dudes on the Endless Summer cover. I realized it was indeed them when the old white-haird Mike Love went into Be True to Your School. The BBs kind of went into the back of my mind after that.
I remember seeing the Kokomo video for the first time on VH1 in the mid 90s, recognized Mike Love right off the bat, I'd only known the Muppets version prior to that.
I also remember seeing the BW Imagination concert on TV, they showed 8 million interviews between all the songs. At the time I would have sworn it was Al Jardine and Glenn Frey in the band (cool), but it was actually Bruce Johnston and Tim Schmidt (talented, but not cool).
In 2003 I bought my first proper BBs CD, it was just Sounds of Summer. Nothing special from a hard core fan's POV but it blew my mind at the time. Prior to this the BBs songs I knew were the ones on Endless Summer, plus WIBN only because it was in so many movies. I actually did think stuff like Beach Baby and The Rain, The Park, and Other Things were by the BBs. I ended up hearing Good Vibrations, Heroes and Villains, Wild Honey, and several other songs for the first time ever. After reading the liner notes I also realized what the hell that "Smiley Smile" that Steven Page (Barenaked Ladies) kept re-listening to was. From there I finally listened to Pet Sounds, then Brian Wilson Presents SMiLE, then lots of googling and downloading until finally coming across my first original SMiLE bootlegs, then the 2fers-SS/WH, Sunflower/Surf's Up, Friends/20-20, CATP/Holland, In Concert, etc. etc. etc. By the end of 2005/early 2006 I was well on my way down the BBs rabbit hole. The advent of Rapidshare/Mediafire/Megaupload, coupled with anonymous blogs opened up a whole world of bootleg goodies for me, being a college kid with fast dorm internet but without a way to buy actual "hard copies" of underground material.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: If you were to make a 1CD career-spanning BB best of...

Impossible. A decent BBs best of would have to take up a minimum of 8 discs.
the only realistic answer I'd have to include a minimum of 5 tracks from every album, not just hits but also standout album cuts, ecery single album would have to be represented-solo records and obscure stuff (such as Mike and Dean, Sunkist album, Salute to Nascar, Songs From Here and Back) included, and don't forget the unfinished/unreleased albums, standout vault/bootleg tracks...
