Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / Re: Nearly half of Americans would vote for a socialist for President

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/06/22/socialist-president-poll_n_7638400.htmlIf "nearly half" of America is to be believed (not that our current and many previous overlords aren't/weren't socialists), this country is f***ed. But hey, why try to argue against an ideology that left hundreds of millions of people dead and only leads to shortages, starvation, famine, lost liberty, and constant surveillance, right? At this rate, either ship them all to California or the northeast and let them destroy themselves...or wake the hell up and stop voting for socialism. Bernie is a Democratic Socialist. Big difference between that and the Dictatorial/Authoritarian Socialism of the USSR.

Sorry for the essay above, but why do Americans have such a distrust of these things? I'm genuinely curious. What is it about American culture that creates this fear?
I'm an American and I always ask myself that same question. I don't think I know of anyone in my corner of the rural upstate New York that acts like that. The paranoia, fear, distrust, etc. is just something I see on the news, and it seems to come a lot from the Southern and Western parts of the country. The human mind is a funny thing, and the internet can trick people in believing anything. Just look at how many people suddenly have "gluten allergies." People with Celiac's disease legitimately do need gluten free food. Then there are the idiots who think gluten free automatically equals healthier and are willing to blow wads of cash on "gluten free" everything. If you have Celiac's, then yes gluten free is healthier than the alternative. But for everybody else whose bodies have no problem processing gluten, there's really no difference.

I can't believe no one has mentioned the Late Show with Stephen Colbert! I'll also be looking forward to yet another season of South Park.
I also say it's way past time to cancel Grey's Anatomy and bring back Scrubs in it's place.

I'm about to give a SPOILER below so beware at all costs! The other great moment comes when Tony is taking part of a hit job against a guy who is about to make a UN speech denouncing the drug trade. Tony and his gang have placed a bomb under the guy’s car and are getting ready to blow it up at the right location. The gang though watch as the guy is joined in his car by his wife and two daughters. It’s a moment of high tension as we are lured into Tony’s moral quandary (the first he has experienced in the whole film). It’s a great cinematic moment. The consequences of Tony’s decision are also quite intriguing and speak to, perhaps, some interesting things that DePalma and Stone might be saying about the nature of humanity. Unfortunately, to go into detail about that, would mean spoiling the film.
That's the great final act of the movie. After all the reprehensible things Tony has done, it's a rare moment of decency that brings about his downfall and seals his fate. I recommend the other DePalma/Pacino film Carlito's Way. Exactly, Mike's Beard! It is a remarkable choice that DePalma makes by having Tony's downfall come as a result of his only act of kindness when usually it's the other way around. Not only that by Tony is brought down by someone with an even more questionable set of ethics than Tony's. Ultimately then DePalma's vision of the world in this movie is pretty dark and pessimistic, no?
Makes The Untouchables look fairly optimistic.

I'm not really sure what demo this site is going for, but it surely isn't for rock fans.
And I agree with Mike's Beard. I know it's semantics, but it would better to list these as "Our Favorites" rather than "The Best." As a fan of primarily rock music, this is a pretty shaky list. Especially since hard rock was huge in the 1980s.
Love it or hate it, no list of 200 songs from the 1980s can possibly leave off what is usually referred to by cynics as "hair metal." And no, Guns N Roses doesn't count. As I'm a rock fan, I'll at least acknowledge that no list of 200 80s songs would be complete without the likes of Madonna and Michael Jackson.
But, the history of rock and roll and music in general is constant being rewritten by the hipper than thou crowd.
Hair Metal was a crime against music. I'm thankful there were such things as New Wave and College Rock.

My family and I live in Australia, we have a great Country as you all know. I absolutely loved travelling to the USA last year, I fell in love with New York and other parts of your wonderful Country. But I have to say, people like Bean Bag scare the living f*** outta me. I have watched you post about gun control, abortion, PP, Obamacare etc, some of you views are frightening.
Sometimes I wonder if he trolling for shock value.

I'd like to control your right to buy a gun but it is your Constitutional right. Funny how you Republicans complain about the over reach of big govt and govt regulation but when it comes to your issues, like abortion, you want to pass laws to control and stop it.
I don't think you understand what you're saying here. People have a right to live and defend themselves. Don't they? It's your ilk that is using Government to take those away from people. Yes, the woman's right to chose, Constitutional right as handed down by the Supreme Court. In case you didn't realize, carrying around a big thing in your belly for 9 months is no trivial thing. It can endanger a woman's health, mess up her body permanently and affect her life in multiple ways you obviously have never seriously considered. Not to mention, deciding not to bring a child into a situation of poverty in some cases. Seems like not adding to the 50% of takers Mitt Romney and Fox NEWS love to complain about would make you happy.
Constitutional right handed down by the Supreme Court, does not trump a right to live as handed down by the Supreme Being. Killing out of convenience should have ended with the fall of Nazi Germany. And the argument that people ought to be happy that we're not adding more people to our economic burdens, proves - in written English - that that line of thinking still exists. Sadly. The so-called "Supreme Being" is an imaginary one, created by ancient humans thousands of years ago before the advent of modern science. And I think the late great George Carlin had some choice things to say about abortion: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9kCyqBKewr4

So I trust that you believe that every American who owes their citizenship to the 14th Amendment are "individuals triumphing over regulation and in some cases the tyranny of the state"?
No Hypehat, do not trust yourself. You're not informed enough. You forgot that illegal aliens are illegal. Not loopholes. Question: If it were white Canadians sneaking across the border instead of Mexicans, would you still be bitching about "illegal aliens"? Seriously? The racist charge? Do you guys on the Left act like this at home? I just want to see consistensy in others' anti-immigrant views. If Mexicans shouldn't be able to cross the border into the US, neither should Canadians, or Russians, or English, or Chinese, etc. Either everyone can cross or nobody can.
