David Leafs book is excellent. I have not read em all but I really like Timothy White's "The Nearest Faraway Place" It was published in 1994.

Kudos to you, outstanding work. All 7 plus minutes of H&V. Using the Hollywood western actors as you did was brilliant including the quick shot of the Three Stooges...it works.

Theme song would be "in my room" especially when I was younger.  But through out life it's more "Cassius Love vs Sonny Wilson."  Life's battles and struggles never cease but we need humor.  😀

I'm only seeing one theatre showing in suburban Buffalo.  Dipson theatre in Amherst. Not seeing any listing  at any Regal cinema around here

Overall I like the album a lot. At this point in his career, this is a tremendous piece of work by this amazing artist.  Thank you Brian.
The Right Time and Sail Away are, in my opinion the two strongest tracks on the record and how great to hear Blondie. Geez I have been playing that song a lot. The Nate Ruess and and Zooey collaborations are again in my opinion the two best.  Nate's vocal on Saturday Night is outstanding.  Finally God Bless Al Jardine for your vocals on this record, you sound great

If I program Sweet Sunday, Belles of Paris, Matchpoint , Woncha come out tonight and come go with me, for me, that is an enjoyable listen from MIU.

On LA, I always appreciated the effort for the disco "here comes the night" but it's 4-5 minutes too long.  Six minutes should have been long enough.  Love Surrounds me and Al's Lady Linda save that album for me. I know others will disagree but I still like Sumahama. Not sure it "saves" the album but a good contribution by Mike.

Very sad. His lyrical and managerial contribution to the Beach Boys is immeasurable.

Thanks Dr. I don't post as much as many  (or perhaps most) do on this board but it is a great source of info about my favorite band as well as a place to share opinion and discussion.

The Beach Boys have so many great songs all the compilations give you a little something different. I have all the songs too, but I really like "the Warmth of the Sun" best of. The remastering stands out and makes many of the songs seem new.
28 songs, a nice single CD. Having "all This Is That" included on a best of was long overdue

10  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Annoying Songs on: February 22, 2015, 06:41:01 PM
In 1971 the beach boys were trying to reach a wider audience. They were I think trying to reach the counter culture generation, or college age. Trying to get beyond the "surfin" stereotype they unfairly were still carrying. Songs like Don't go near the water, long promised road and Student demonstration time are examples. Adding Blondie and Ricky on their next album as well as the excellent Holland are further examples. Some songs don't stand the test of time 40 years later, student Demonstration time is probably one of those but I would not call it annoying. But I agree this thread is annoying

One other connection I don't think has been mentioned... The great Derek Taylor did publicity for the Byrds and Beach Boys at one time, though I don't think at the same time. Passed away a number of years ago

Looking to this books release as well. The cover looks like Early 80's Carl to me similar to the album cover on his first Solo album. Hopefully that album gets a remastering and re-release some day too.

I think I read Roger McGuinn played the opening Guitar intro on "somwhere Near Japan" as well.

15  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Do You Wanna Dance live 2015 with Dennis on: February 14, 2015, 06:49:57 AM
My opinion, this is a near perfect tribute to Dennis. The shows I'd seen Dennis would sing "you are so Beautiful".   I love Dennis but at that time he was not in good voice and not healthy.  He was abeautiful spirit and here we see him in his youth, vibrant. "Do You wanna Dance fits the live performance as much as "Barbara Ann" or even "rock n roll music".
"Forever" was used in 2012 in the tribute. I wish I went to the show since I don't live too far from that venue, but I passed on it.

16  Smiley Smile Stuff / BRIAN WILSON Q & A / Re: What part/parts of Break Away did your dad contribute to? on: February 05, 2015, 07:24:52 PM
All these years I always believed Murry"s  lyrics for the first verse and Brian wrote the second verse.  "When I laid down on my bed, I heard voices in my head...." That never   sounded like Murry's lyrics to me.
Great song. and I especially like the Brian vocal released on Endless Harmony.

Only bought a handful of double albums back in the LP era, but a few I still come back to today on CD are Stevie Wonder's Songs  in the key of life and Todd Rundgren's  Somehing Anything.  Quadrphenia was a great album also.

19  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Bob Welch remembered on: June 16, 2014, 07:02:06 PM
Listening to fleetwood Mac "mystery to me" cd recently while out driving.  Had not played it in awhile and songs like "hypnotized" and "miles away" by Bob Welch sound so good. Played this LP regularly back when it first came out and it sounds great in the car today. God Bless Bob Welch, may he rest in peace. His contributions to the Mac carried that band through the early 70's

If Dave says he is contemplating releasing the complete works on CD, don't hold your breath.  He said the same thing 5 years ago in interviews. 3 of them have now passed away. The core audience who are fans are in their 50's and 60's  and probably 70's too.  A great band in their day. Mike Smith's accident and passing is one of the great tragedy's.

Well I didn't hate it. Great memories of all those Sullivan show clips and their best songs are still great to listen to. Didn't tell the whole story of the DC5. A lot, a lot, a whole lot of praise heaped on toDave Clark. A few nice moments for Mike Smith and nothing new told to us about Rick, Lenny or Denis. One (i think elton John) called him a genius. Enjoyed Whoopi Goldberg and Gene Simmon's comments during the special.
