Still no ticket info on the venue's website, but exploregeorgia.org is listing the show as being $57, fees included. I told myself that I was done seeing any BB's related bands, but that's reasonably priced.

The last time M&B played up there, it was at the Anderson Music Hall.

I'm trying to get accurate venue info for the BBFC tour dates listings.
It's at Anderson Music Hall again. That's the only venue in Hiawassee over 300 capacity. I wouldn't be surprised to find out it's not fully confirmed yet, since it's only included on one picture of upcoming dates on their facebook. No ticket prices/info yet.

thatjacob, do you know what venue M&B are playing in Haiwassee -- is it the GA. Mountain Fair venue?
It is, but isn't during the fair.

So, this is totally off topic, but I just saw a date announced in Hiawassee, GA for Dec 1st. What point in the year has Mike been breaking out the mini Christmas set? I'd be more interested to see that than the meat and potatoes set thqt Hiawassee would usually get.

In terms of the original BB recording, I've always felt it was *near* perfect. The middle eight instrumental bars always take away from it for me. It's not a guitar solo. It's chords. It always sounds like something else belongs there. It has no melodic interest for eight measures in a piece that is virtually overflowing with melodic interest.

I disagree. To me that is one perfect "less-is-more" instrumental break.

Totally agree. Might be my favorite part of the song, especially live, when they started injecting it with a little more energy.

I agree, it works live. But for me, it falls flat on the recording. I think if Brian had recorded it just one year later, he would have done that differently.

I think the 1964 studio recording is perfect as-is.

The *only* thing that bugs me just a tiny bit about that part (on the studio recording) is that a couple of those chords in that bridge are strummed *very* slightly out of sync/late in a spot or two. But it's super minor and just makes it more human.

The fact that that it's apparently very likely (although I think not 100% confirmed?) that it's David Marks playing that part on the recording - Brian giving him a brief, but poignant spotlight some time after he'd already left the band - just makes it that much sweeter and emotionally satisfying to my ears.

But emotions/sentimentality aside - musically, I think that part works perfectly. I've always felt so, even way back when I was more of a casual fan of the band, and not dissecting the songs the way I do now.

The fact that the notes are hit just a tiny bit late add a punch to them that wouldn't have been there otherwise. It's the fact that they're slightly off that makes them so memorable and noticeable despite being simple chord stabs.

Overall it's a pretty terrible version of the song, but I actually like the vocal melody he used here. It has nothing on the original, but I could see the vocal melody working in an alt-country setting.

My local Barnes & Noble says they'll have signed copies of I Am Brian Wilson available Black Friday weekend.  I'm thinking of checking it out but I'll have to look back at this thread when I see it.

This eBay seller is claiming they bought this book at Barnes & Noble:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/BRIAN-WILSON-Barnes-Nobles-LIMITED-signed-autographed-auto-book-hardcover-/262734236039?hash=item3d2c2e4987:g:0ZQAAOSwB09YOFev

Sure looks like the autopen/facsimile signature that Premiere Collectibles were plagued with...
I'm glad I didn't bother to pick up a copy, then...

I reported it. I messaged the seller with a link to this thread and gave them 24 hours to take the listing down before I reported it.
Still not pulled. Someone else should file a complaint.

Yeah, I saw Sufjan Stevens at that venue not too long ago. I was impressed with it. Still, as much as I enjoy seeing Mike and Bruce live, I can't justify paying $10-15 more a ticket to see them than I did for good seats to see Brian at The Fox.

I just checked ticket prices for the newly announced Atlanta show...

$86 for most floor seats and $72 for most of the mezzanine, not counting fees.
I think I'm going to have to sit this one out unless I find some cheap last minute tickets on stubhub under face value or "all I wanna do" becomes a permanent setlist addition for this tour.
89  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian Wilson 2016 Tour Thread (Pet Sounds 50th Anniversary Tour) on: September 10, 2016, 09:11:59 AM
Yep. Brian had an good night vocally, but I still feel a tiny bit cheated by the short setlist with no opener. The concert was over by 10:30pm. Still, I think that was the first time that I've seen them perform Little Honda.

edit: Looking at the setlist online, it seems pretty solid. 32 songs isn't bad. I'm being overly cynical for what amounts to 10 minutes worth of music.

Totally different setlist. Condensed but honda adn wake the world so far. No heroes.

Ushers are saying it'll be 2 hours tonight with no breaks. Seems like 26 is the new standard...
92  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Correct speed of 4/4 Big Sur? on: September 07, 2016, 07:55:33 PM
To me it sounds like the first slower version is the original speed, due to the guitar sounding a bit more natural. It could be the case of them recording the instruments in one key then deciding later to speed it up and shifting the key, though.

The Atlanta show will be the best pen-ultimate Brian Wilson Pet Sounds Show! (because I will be there)!

It's also kinda silly to pre-judge a show at a real venue based upon festival/fair shows.

Iceland was in a real venue. A fairly upscale one, but still a real venue. That's the only reason I'm worried.

there's a picture of the interior.

The concert at Cliff's Pavilion seems to have only been 26 songs, despite not being a festival show. I really hope that I get to see the full setlist on Friday in Atlanta.
Iceland tonight seems to be the truncated 26 song setlist as well...
It's not looking good for Atlanta.

New concert date!!!!!! *sounds the air horn*

Chicago Theatre
Saturday 10/1
Tix go on sale this Friday 7/22 (venue presale) and Saturday 7/23 (general sale) - both sales start at 10 a.m. Central

Wish they had announced the Chicago Theatre show a few months ago. I wouldn't have gotten tickets to Pitchfork. Music fests aren't really my thing.
My guess would be that they weren't allowed to announce it due to their contract with the festival. That's fairly common for any headlining act.

Has anyone found any clips of footage of "river deep, mountain high"?

Yep, I have to agree with everyone else here and unfortunately disagree with SWD. The breakdown around 46:40 is heavily pitch corrected.

Ugh. Last night I found out that one of my friends and favorite former co-workers fell off of a mountain and died.

Now this.

It's been a strange week.
