It's starting to feel like McCartney's new album is imminent!
Yep! I'm kind of excited to see if anything is released at midnight.

Atlanta -- yay!! (Although I was hoping for a Christmas show....)

 Happy Dance

Me too. I'm not sure if I'll be catching this one, but I would've gone to a Christmas show for sure.

Bill Doss died five or six years ago.

I don’t believe Jeremy and Kevin Barnes are related: where did you hear that?

Robert is a math grad student and teaching assistant at Emory University these days, not doing music anymore.

He still shows up occasionally. He performed at Athens Popfest back in 2016 as a "special guest", apparently.

The Nashville Symphony Orchestra shows are still going on, just without Brian's band. They apparently asked Sail On (the explorers club) to step in.

Quote from: Rolling Stone
Monáe knew she wanted Wilson on Dirty Computer early in the album's creation process. "I was researching the Beach Boys, [and] I found out that the reason why their sound was so quiet, and their harmonies were blended but they were soft, was because they didn't want to wake up their parents," Monáe explains. "They were secretly recording softly so they didn't disturb their parents, and I just thought that was so cool.

Why were their parents sleeping at Columbia studios?

The only way there is any validity to the story is if you don't think of it as when they were recording, but they probably did practice late at night quietly.

I hope they bring that show to Atlanta and add "Winter Symphony" and "Morning Christmas" to the setlist!
I hope so too.

During Al’s show Saturday in San Luis he said that he and Brian would be touring Europe this summer and then be back doing shows in the states in the Fall and holidays
Fingers crossed for a holiday show in Georgia. I'm kind of exhausted from BBs related concerts at the moment, but I imagine I'd be ready to catch one again by December.

A poster over at the r/thebeachboys on reddit mentioned that they couldn't get approved here and have tried signing up twice. If you see the username fastballooninghead pop up, they seem to be a  decent poster. I lurked through their post history on reddit and didn't see any arguments or trolling.  Cheesy

From Blondie Chaplin's facebook 12 minutes ago...
"Some cool things are brewing...Blondie Chaplin plans to hit the studio with Brian Wilson and Waddy Wachtel very soon. Stay tuned!"

If that's the case, I have to go. Was he charging to sign or anything, or is it just a pretty standard small show post performance thing?
61  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Al Jardine - 2018 Tour Thread - Postcards Storytellers Tour on: January 25, 2018, 02:23:25 PM
Did Al have a signing session after the show, or did you just catch him?

I got tix for the Alanta show today!
I thought about grabbing a front row ticket for just myself, but I'm waiting around to see if any discount tickets hit over the next few days. Money is a little tight right now.

An Atlanta gig -- yes! Anybody know when public tickets go on sale?
Thursday at 3pm, according to an email I got from the venue.

He just announced a show at City Winery in Atlanta. March 26th.

I’m guessing you looked at a secondary ticket seller site such as Stubhub.
Ticketmaster has the cheap seats for $ 96.
Probably so, but there's only one $95 ticket left for the whole stadium now. That's not counting fees, either. Kind of high for the current Eagles lineup, but I'm not the biggest fan. For comparison, I just had really solid tickets to Mike and Bruce for $58 after fees.

He did say that "he" had a new album out and had the album cover up for each song, which clearly said that it was a Mike Love solo album. I'd rather have more xmas bb's songs, but it wasn't done in a shitty way. Shitty songs maybe, but handled well enough. Mike has his strengths and flaws, but how he's promoting the new album isn't one of his flaws.

Also, all of the Wild Honey Tour shirts were $15 since the tour is over.

A local radiostation played the "in concert" version of Sail On Sailor on my commute home today.

Admittedly am not a fan of the production style of Joe Thomas.  But this seems less produced than NPP which is a good sign.

Definitely hear a pre Pet Sounds influence here.
It doesn't seem to be produced by Joe, thankfully. I'm not sure if I believe that online credit from youtube that it was co-produced by Andy Paley, but it does have some of the hallmarks of his work.
73  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: \ on: September 18, 2017, 11:21:15 AM
I'll need to hear the actual CD to figure this out, but that's some interesting filter or whatnot on BW's voice. It's not a quadruple tracked effect at all, or the odd NPP sound where the beginnings and ends of words are one voice but the sounds inbetween are choral. It actually seems pretty cool!
It's definitely comped between his voice and someone else's in a few spots, but i prefer that to overcorrecting pitch issues.
74  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: \ on: September 18, 2017, 09:53:02 AM
His voice isn't an autotuned nightmare on this! I'm digging it. I can't wait to throw a tape plugin on this and dirty it up and make it a little closer to mono.

I've asked in the Mike and Bruce European Tour topic, but does anyone know when M&B typically add the Christmas set to their shows? I'm thinking about going to see them on December 1st and I'm hoping that they'll at least throw in Little Saint Nick, since it's one of the few songs I haven't seen them do live.
