Holy sh*t these tickets are expensive.  Cheapest seats are still over $100?

Depends on the venue. The Atlanta show is $59 - $69.

$58 after fees for the seats that I paid $73 for through the presale that claimed that it was only $10 over ticket cost. I can't help but feel a tiny bit cheated since I have no use for more than one download of the album.

Check your spam folder. That's where mine went to. It's an individual code for each email address.

I went ahead and bought two tickets for Atlanta, even though I have no need for a second download of the album. I'm going to be working the day that tickets go on sale, so it's worth the extra 10 or 20 bucks for me not to have to stress over it.

This might be my favorite off of NPP yet.
129  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Love and Mercy - News and Reviews - First clip is out. on: March 29, 2015, 06:49:09 PM
After seeing it today at the Atlanta Film Festival, I'm impressed. The acting and story were good, but the soundtrack stole the show. I'll be seeing it again in theaters in a few months.

Did they still use Love and Mercy as the closing song?

Yes, although the theater brought up the house lights and cut the volume before the song finished due to it being a festival and running behind schedule. Everyone in the audience was still sitting and watching when they cut it too, so it seemed like a tasteless move.

Also, I don't have time to skim through 40 pages of discussion, but I vaguely remember someone saying that the "Til I Die" scene had been cut at one showing? If it was ever cut, it's back in the film.

From Brian's Facebook:
"I am so proud of the song "Guess You Had To Be There" from my new album, No Pier Pressure. Kacey wrote some wonderful lyrics on the verses and her sweet voice blew me away. Thank you Kacey. Love & Mercy, Brian"

Knowing that Kacey wrote some of the verses, I suspect that either she wrote the verses with the C50 fallout in mind or that she wrote the second verse on her own and Brian wrote at least a good portion of the rest of the song first. The second verse is the only one that doesn't seem to directly reference the breakup.

"Well I guess you had to be there
All we wanted was more
There were winners and losers
And people passed out on my floor

And you know you should have called me
For that real good time
Guess you miss some of the gold
When you're too busy chasing the shine"

I'm not sure how I feel about this track yet, but I'm still mostly undecided about most of them. I can't help but feel that I'd probably enjoy it more if it was a bit less polished.

Fingers crossed for some of the slower more melancholy tracks.

I definitely prefer the live version to the recorded one upon first listen. Mostly, this just excites me about the rest of the live show for PBS. I was worried it'd be buried in too much post-production, but at least this track was nicely handled.

My girlfriend surprised me with tickets to the March 29th showing of this at the Atlanta Film Festival. I'm excited, to say the least.

That's quite saddening, but it makes me even more glad that I went to see him on Halloween 2010 on a whim.

I might actually pick that one up. The vintage tour raglan isn't bad, either, despite its price. If it looks better in person I might pick it up.

Does anyone know if tickets have been discounted in any cities for this tour? I'm thinking about going to the one in Peachtree City, but I don't want a repeat of the last time I saw Brian where I paid full price only for Groupon to sell seats that were just as good for $40 less.
139  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian with Jeff Beck Fall Tour Dates on: October 05, 2013, 10:01:26 AM
Also, it's of note that Al did the complete lead on "Sloop John B" last night instead of alternating with Brian. Brian kept coming in late and Al covered for him, but would take the entire verse. I couldn't tell if Brian was getting a little angry or was or if he was doing it on purpose.

I would have loved to have heard Little Bird in Hollywood, FL. I've thankful to have heard Blondie on SOS and a great version of Don't Talk with Jeff Beck.

Is it a safe assumption that Jeff F took lead vocals on She Knows Me Too Well?

He has in the past...I know Brian can't go that high anymore.
He did last night if my memory serves correctly. I actually woke up with it stuck in my head with a Fosketty glaze over it.
141  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Discount Brian/Beck tickets on: October 04, 2013, 10:47:11 PM
I wish I had seen the groupon posting before tonight, but I still have no regrets for paying full price more than a month ago. Saving $100 is always a plus, though.

Atlanta, please!

Fingers crossed for this one.

Got my tickets this morning! I wish I had gone for a presale before, but row F in the Orchestra isn't too bad at Chastain.

The Atlanta show is going to be at a state fair being held at the Speedway. I'd expect an outdoor stage setup.

Here's a link, but there's not much on the website for now:
http://atlanta.georgiastatefair.org/

Interesting that the venue told you it's not confirmed yet, since the date is listed on Capitol's official BB website.

Thanks for that info.  I just wish I could get an idea of how long their set will be.
If it's a full show, I'll be there.
Maybe instead of contacting the Speedway, I'll try to get  in touch with somebody at the fair.

It's not part of a race or the state fair. It's part of a RV convention called "The Rally". You have to buy a day pass for $79 to see the concert and that's not with reserved seating.

145  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / Smiley Smilers Who Make Music / I threw together a cover of "Pretty Paper" on: December 17, 2012, 07:49:05 PM
https://soundcloud.com/jacoblsmith/pretty-paper

I recorded most of this to pass the time while house sitting on a farm, but it's taken until now to finally get around to recording lap steel and mixing it. Still plenty of flaws, but that's the nature of it when recording while having a couple of drinks alone.

Americana / Folk ?
146  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Thread for various insignificant questions that don't deserve their own thread! on: November 28, 2012, 04:12:26 PM
Not a question, but it seemed unworthy of starting a thread and I don't feel like digging for an appropriate catch all thread...

I recently got a surprise early Christmas gift from a friend in the mail. She knows how I'm borderline obsessed with The Beach Boys and tend to overdo it when it comes to decorating, so she bought this hand-made ornament out of old album covers.

I have it hanging from the ceiling next to my bed now. It's awesome, but now Mike Love is staring at me.

I still prefer Yellow House (and disagree about it being an inconsistent album) but Shields is probably their most well-rounded when it comes to their pop side. Easily tied as the best live show I've seen in the past year too.

It's out there, although it's a VHS rip.
149  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: New Rolling Stones track, \ on: October 12, 2012, 03:51:33 AM
I'm enjoying it, even though it kind of feels like something that The Hives would've written trying to copy The Stones, rather than a Rolling Stones song.
150  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: First Album on: August 31, 2012, 11:45:05 AM
The first two cassettes I remember having as a child that weren't kid's songs were Elvis's Golden Records and The Beach Boys - Concert Days.
I grew up listening to the oldies station, then started listening to crap as a teenager, including an unfortunate metalcore phase. Thankfully that's a decade behind me.
