I ended up buying row L seats during the presale, which is a bummer. They're aisle seats, which is nice, but immediately after purchasing them someone released better tickets from their cart. I'm currently sitting with 3rd row tickets in my cart, but can't decide if it's worth the hassle to attempt to resell the others, since there's been a Groupon type deal on tickets for the past 3 atlanta shows (which kills resale value).
If you're to the right of the stage (stage left), I would think about sticking with row L. I'm not sure how that venue is, but I got stage left 2nd row tickets for a fall show, and could only see Brian's forehead above the piano. That's what I was afraid of. For now, at least, I'm sticking with Row L. It's a bit further back, but it being an aisle seat is a bit of a plus. I'm probably going to have a few drinks and don't want to be THAT guy that makes an entire row stand up 4 times.

The Mrs. heard a "Muzak" version of "Surf's Up" at the local Mariano's last wek.
I heard a muzak version of Surf's Up as well in a doctors' office waiting room around September as well.

I don't know what to make of FJM. I wasn't big on Fleet Foxes, and I haven't been big on his solo stuff. Yet "Bored in the USA' was clever and in spots funny, I'll give him that. And he's a talented guy. As for this, yes, it's obviously a VU schtick--and schtick being the key word. Comedy in music troubles people sometimes, I think, because we want our artists to be artists, to take it as seriously as the people who collect and memorize and analyze do. Well, it's not necessarily the humor that drives me away. There are some lines of his like "I'm no doctor, but that monkey might be right" that I think are good. I don't really care for what I've heard by him, but I think I'm mainly put off by his Father John Misty persona/personality. Like, "save me, president Jesus" is such obvious pandering to the hip, faux-intelligent kids that I can't believe anyone falls for it. Plus, I have so much respect and love for Lou Reed that I really dislike his appropriation of his music/vocal style. In general, I would agree that humor does drive people away. I was thinking a little while ago about what a curious case Frank Zappa was. He gave America exactly what they wanted with his smutty, over the top, sexual jokes and was eventually shunned as a result. No point in bringing this up, really. Just thought it was an interesting result. That's the thing, though, the fact that it's such obvious pandering is the joke itself. It's not poor writing, but most of his humor is meta-humor.

I'd be a real treat. It would score BIG points with everybody. If I had tickets and Al showed...I'd be SO pumped. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- One thing I forgot about the show I saw. They finish with Rock n Roll Music, Barbara Ann, Surfin USA, Kokomo, Fun Fun Fun and they're GONE. The crowd wants more. The party has been outstanding. Well played. Well sung. Well DELIVERED. But. [and it's a big BUT] A rock 'n'roll show without an encore...as demanded by the audience who don't want it to end? Keep 'em wanting more is a piss-poor excuse for not saving a couple of tunes for the always expected and generally delivered encore. Brian 'fakes' one. But I've been to his shows where the crowd wants more AFTER Love and Mercy. And it doesn't happen. 2x Wrong...is just twice as wrong. Come on Mike...and you TOO Brian. There are nights when you have to let it roll on just a little bit beyond predictable. THAT works. Everybody wins. It's usually limited by venue time curfews. I forget the exact numbers, but if an artist goes even one minute over the 11:30/11:45 cutoff, they're fined thousands.

Is it just my imagination, or is this a different mix of the song?
edit: Most likely just a slightly different master. I can't find any obvious differences in the mix, but it just feels a bit different.

The Atlanta show is selling poorly, despite being in a fantastic venue. I have front row seats on the balcony (short girlfriend) that I bought during the pre-sale, but I almost wish that I had waited longer. As recently as a week ago, a few row A (behind 5 or 6 vip folding chair rows) seats on the floor level opened up for the same price.
I suspect that tickets will be half price on Groupon any day now, as they have been for the past two Brian concerts in GA.
