The last time around they were promoting the Beach Boys With The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra release. I heard Brian, Al, and Mike comment on the 'then' new album. This would be a perfect opportunity to promote the Feel Flows Box set. Throw in a few tracks from the upcoming box. Comments from the Boys as well. I'm sure they will do that. We'll see.
Yes, more comments from the band. They were using old interview clips from Dennis and Carl last time.

quote author=jeremylr link=topic=27587.msg671466#msg671466 date=1619576653] A few months ago I found the same 1983 Beach Boys tour shirt at a Target store in Valdosta, Georgia. The last vestige of Dennis, as well as the color scheme and 1983 coincidentally being the year of my birth, made it an essential purchase. You can't beat the price, either. Appreciate your post, SloopJohnnyB. [/quote] Thanks! This tour shirt was also licensed out to high end stores like Norstroms https://www.nordstrom.com/s/daydreamer-beach-boys-1983-tour-rolled-weekend-graphic-tee/5716380?origin=keywordsearch-personalizedsort&breadcrumb=Home%2FAll%20Results&color=680Serious money for this one: https://www.nordstrom.com/s/madeworn-beach-boys-last-horizon-unisex-graphic-tee/5623205?origin=keywordsearch-personalizedsort&breadcrumb=Home%2FAll%20Results&color=950Nice description. : DETAILS & CARE 'America's band' brings fun, fun, fun to a vintage-inspired concert T-shirt that's cut, sewn and distressed by hand in the USA for a truly one-of-a-kind piece. Don't worry, baby, this T-shirt is perfect for surfer dudes, California girls and anyone wanting to add some music to their day. I thought the surfer was generic but I like Dean's logo. Born in '62 I was introduced to the Beach Boys through the Endless Summer/Spirit of America LP's. I began buying the Warner Brothers two-fers lp's which introduced me to albums like Wild Honey. 15 Big Ones came out and yes, that's where the logo started. It wasn't used on the other late 70's lps. It showed up again on the "Keepin' the Summer Alive" album cover in 1980. Besides "Appeal to the Great Spirit" , Dean's logo works well. Reminds me of the mid-late 1970's and early 1980's when they were all still together. As stated above, it is their logo. I hope we see more merchandise.

So I see that this tour shirt can be found around the internet. Available at a wide variety of sellers and prices. It's just nice to walk in to a Target and see a Beach Boys shirt available with the other Rock icons T-shirts.
I thought the surfer image was a bit "generic" but the more I see it the more I like it. 1983 was the last time they were all together. I like to think of it as a tribute to Dennis. Hopefully we'll see more like this in the brick and mortar stores.

I found this T-Shirt at a Target store near Pittsburgh, PA. It was in the young men's section along with the Beatles and Stones. It's also available on the Target website. Yes, I got one! Interesting 1983 being the year Dennis passed. Very generic. Maybe someone knows it this is an authentic copy of the 1983 tour shirt? I would have preferred a "Help me Rhonda" T shirt or anything from the 1970's. Anyway, hopefully we'll see more merchandise in the future. The back inside reads copyright Brother Records 2021. https://www.target.com/p/men-s-the-beach-boys-short-sleeve-crewneck-t-shirt-white/-/A-80825114?preselect=80740296#lnk=sametabWell, a good start anyway. I've never seen a Beach Boys shirt in Target or Walmart. If you're out and about stop in and buy the shirt. The only way we'll see more is if the fans buy the product. 100% cotton and only $12.99.

I just heard Gene Simmons from KISS comment on Brian Wilson. Having Breakfast somewhere and noticing Brian at another table. He talked about Paul and the Beatles and he (Gene) praised "God Only Knows" and they went into the song. I assume this is a newer clip? I hope so. Keep the new comments coming SiriusXM!

Maybe someone else heard it but something about he and Dennis singing the same notes and tone kind of canceling each other out. Maybe singing the same parts. I'm multi-tasking today, listening but not listening. The heat here in the east is kind of getting me., too. Still enjoying the channel, though. Steamboat on right now! Fantastic to hear the variety.

Must have been a big day for the Salute to Nascar album, I heard Little GTO.
Also, several clips from Marilyn have been airing the past couple of days.
I heard my first Dennis interview clip the other day. Still waiting to hear from Carl. I'd love to see (and hear) David Marks play his favorite Beach Boys songs post-1963. His thoughts on the mid and late 60's, the 1970's and 1980's. The solo albums. C'mon SiriusXM! Make it happen! What did Dennis talk about in that clip? It was "creating music and making people happy" thing. They then went into a Dennis song. I was busy at the time...can't remember the song. I recorded it, though. Nice! For those of you with a DVD recorder you can plug your device into the machine and record the audio onto a blank DVD-R disc. I'm getting 9 hours of audio on 1 disc. Playback sounds great. I'll throw a disc in at night and let it record when I sleep. Record during the day when I can. If the channel doesn't return next year it will be nice to re-listen to the discs and channel. I guess I don't have to tell anyone that there are ways to record the audio into your computer. The interviews seal the deal for me. I hope they keep adding more. David Marks was just on talking about he and Dennis singing in the recording studio.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Fire Music - building which burned down

There was also a fire at the L.A. Record Plant studio shortly after the Fire tape was re-discovered and played by Dennis and engineer Tom Murphy at Brother Studio in '78...
Wow, this is great. There was one of those Beach Boys Memorial Day or 4th of July Radio Show broadcast specials in which Dennis states "We found the Fire Tapes". I've been searching for that radio show for a long time but haven't had any luck. I guess it's my personal little Beach Boys Holy Grail item. I assume it went out to radio stations on vinyl. Late 70's sounds right. I was in High School at the time and being a Beach Boys fan I recorded it on cassette but those tapes are long gone. If anyone has a date or any information please let me know....please . This is not what you are looking for, but I thought it would fit in here anyway. It's Carl (with Al and Mike) talking about Smile in '73. Though "Fire" isn't mentioned, Carl denies that anything was burnt. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtaBudnUCloHello,
Regarding Dennis's playback of the "Fire" tapes: I did that interview with Dennis in January '78 for "The Robert W. Morgan Special of the Week" which aired later that year and was re-purposed for another show a year or two later. I was a writer-producer for Casey Kasem's "American Top 40" at the time and picked up extra income by doing interviews for "SOTW," which was also produced by the same company, Watermark, Inc.
The interview took place at Brother Studios early (for a rock star) on a weekday morning. Dennis was bright-eyed and at the top of his game that day and recently clean-shaven. We did a fairly standard "Beach Boys" interview as that was the content I needed for the upcoming program. Of course, 40 years later, it kills me that we didn't spend more time on "Pacific Ocean Blue" and all of Dennis's songs from "Friends through "Holland." Especially "Sunflower."
When we got to talking about "Smile," Dennis hollered to engineer Earle Mankey to come inthe studio to "cue up the tape we were listening to last night." It was "Mrs. O'Leary's Cow"-- the "Fire" tapes! My obvious astonishment had Dennis attempting to maintain a poker face. When I referred to the fact that Brian has claimed to have burned the tapes --even to me personally-- Dennis said, "You know Brian. When he doesn't want to talk about something, he lies! Nothing has ever been burned." I truly was in shock hearing someing so legendary and presumably lost.
Shortly thereafter, I did an interview with Brian at a mutual friend's house, for the same show. Brian was not in the best state of mind that particular day. When I told him that Dennis had played me the "Fire" tapes, he pretty much brushed it off without comment. It didn't seem to upset him at all, but it furthered no additional discussion. The most significant thing I remember about that interview was Brian's admitting that he missed "the old days" and that he felt that he was somewhat forgotten. It was a sad conversation and I made a vow to simply be his friend going forward-- to let others do the interviews. Over the forthcoming years --until he vanished in the second round of Landy's care in '83-- I'd ask him a fair amount of questions about vocal parts and arrangements, but I don't believe we ever did a formal interview again.
I'd interview the other guys periodically, including Dennis another time or two. But boy, on that date in January '78, he was truly as healthy, sharp, funny and charming as I ever saw him. And despite lesser encounters, that's how I remember him.
Thanks Rocker. Thank you Scott for writing in and sharing that info! I'll never forget that sound bite they used from Dennis: "We found the Fire Tapes". Exciting at the time thinking that maybe someday those tapes would officially be released.....maybe someday. Also Scott, thanks for the radio show information and the great memories of Dennis. Good times in the "Pacific Ocean Blue" era.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / New Jeffrey Foskett / Jeff Larson Album: Elua Aloha
|
on: June 22, 2018, 08:51:45 AM

I don't think this has been posted yet. I just came across it on Amazon: Jeffrey Foskett and Jeff Larson: Elua Aloha Product Description Longtime friends and collaborators Jeffrey Foskett and Jeff Larson deliver a focused celebration of music together. Guests include Henry Kapono, Gerry Beckley, Jason Scheff, Jeff Pevar and others. Review Two purveyors of musical sunshine have teamed up for their first collaborative album and it delivers on its implied promise of sun, surf, and tropical breezes. Singer-songwriter Jeff Larson has joined with his longtime collaborator, Jeffrey Foskett of The Beach Boys, for Elua Aloha, an upbeat and inviting celebration of the California sound in all its many colors... Larson has written all but two of the songs on this release, and produced or co-produced nearly every track, while both artists (whose voices mesh beautifully) share vocal duties on leads and backgrounds. They are joined by a host of fine musicians including drummer Ryland Steen, multi-instrumentalist Jeff Pevar ex-Chicago bassist Jason Scheff, The Smithereens drummer Dennis Diken, and America's Gerry Beckley... There s a fresh, crisp sound in the air on the happily romantic opening track. The breezy harmonies of Feeling Just the Way I Do recall the best of America. Hawaiian pop legend Henry Kapono, one half of Cecilio and Kapono, not only wrote the song (a C&K classic) but shares the lead vocal with Foskett and lends his acoustic guitar. Larson bottles the perfect antidote for a rainy day on Need a Little Summer with its catchy melody and gorgeous bridge. He takes the lead on the uptempo track while Foskett supplies his trademark Beach Boys falsetto backgrounds... You Remind Me of the Sun, a new recording of the Larson favorite with a Foskett lead vocal, continues to keep the blues at bay, as does the bright, jangle-pop of The Word Go. She Has to Know by Now, originally recorded on 2006 s Swimming in the Make Believe, gets another strong reworking... The impressionistic yet vividly clear lyric of Windblown Mind adds up to an ode to the Golden State music that has clearly enchanted both Larson and Foskett and likely anyone who would consider picking up this release. Even more specific is the atmospheric Shadows of the Canyon, written for The Accidental Photographer, the 2017 documentary about Henry Diltz. Larson namechecks The Byrds, Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne, and other shadows of Laurel Canyon on this heartfelt homage. (Diltz's calligraphy actually adorns this album.) ... Elua Aloha deftly blends uptempo material with softer sounds, and electric with acoustic moods. John Blakeley (The Sandals) plays the titular instrument on the delicate, tropically-flavored ode to a Girl with Uke. A shimmering Gerry Beckley ballad with his trademark melodic sensibility, All Bets Are Off, features Larson in the lead supported by both the songwriter and Foskett. (Beckley plays piano, acoustic, and electric guitars on the track, while Jason Scheff takes on bass and Chris Tedesco on trumpet). Hazy Sunshine, also previously recorded in a solo version by Larson, has a beautifully wistful quality; Beckley joins lead vocalist Foskett on the harmonies. One of the album s most moving tracks is also in a ballad mode. Frontier Village is a pretty, low-key remembrance of the San Jose western-themed amusement park that existed between 1961 and 1980. A warmth recalling David Gates finest songs infuses the track. The closer, the World I'm In serves as a soft grace note for the album.. Alternately invigorating and relaxing, the altogether refreshing Elua Aloha is a fine addition to the California musical landscape from two practitioners who have earned their own place in the storied musical tradition. --The Second Disc I like Foskett so I'm ordering now. It's already got a "amazon's choice" label. Good luck Jeffrey! https://www.amazon.com/Elua-Aloha-Jeffrey-Foskett-Larson/dp/B07C5SJSPF/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1529683978&sr=8-1&keywords=jeff+foskett
