Love the original recording with Ian Gillan singing the part of Jesus. In fact, I've got a strange sentimental attachment to it. There are parts of it that really move me. I was born in 1971 and my parents told me that it was on constant rotation when I was in the womb. I've always wondered what the psychological impact of that was on me. As to the question of "blasphemy", I wouldn't use so strong a word. It definitely emphasizes the humanity of Jesus and ends with the crucifixion, not the resurrection. So, some Christians might find it a bit lacking. But it was never meant to be an evangelistic tract. I enjoy it for the great music. IMHO, it's the best Andrew Lloyd Webber ever did.

A bit OT, but is there a difference in the single/album mixes of TWGMTR (song) or is this the same mix in both places? I vaguely recall this being discussed elsewhere but can not find the answer.
It's been suggested there is an extra keyboard or something on the album version. Not sure if I can hear that, myself. The two versions do seem to be mastered (possibly mixed) somewhat differently -- the single seems to be more compressed. as i posted before, album top, single bottom: thanks mr m!

That said, Wilson Phillips' version of "Daniel" comes from that album, and is pretty decent. Ironic that the kids could do it properly while the older family members just seemed like the crazy uncles who want to be hip (which I suppose they were).
Totally agree. That cut is the best one on the album.

Japanese EMI Catalogue numbers for the already-flagged up remasters:
TOCP-71371 TOCP-71372 TOCP-71373 TOCP-71374 TOCP-71375 TOCP-71376 TOCP-71377 TOCP-71378 TOCP-71379 TOCP-71380 TOCP-71381 TOCP-71382
All consecutive, which might suggest that other titles won't be slipped out later.
Darn…
No reason to assume that the catalog numbers must be consecutive. There have been numerous re-master programs over the years that did not release all of a band's titles en masse and/or in order.
