I'm showing up late to this game, but wanted to let you know that this mix sounds phenomenal.  Great work!

My 17 year old son bought it for me in honor of my birthday a few weeks ago.   Smiley  It's a great book full of tid-bits that I hadn't previously seen.  Just today, I went searching for Keith Green's cover of "Girl Don't Tell Me" as a result of the write-up on that song.  Congrats on the success of the book!

And, for those interested, here's what I found when I looked for the Keith Green cover (it's the 2nd song in the video and begins at about 2:15):

Haven't seen this mentioned elsewhere on the board.  This item seems to be something else entirely.  With any luck, it will be the live DVD that we are hoping to see.  http://social.entertainment.msn.com/music/blogs/scene-and-heard-blogpost.aspx?post=36a652ee-5afa-4508-a779-f8f7eb051041

It's now the 22nd in Spain.  Looking forward to reports about the show!

Very curious to hear the song about John Lennon.

Where did you read this? I'd be curious to hear that too.

Here's some more info.  http://www.examiner.com/article/track-listing-for-new-bob-dylan-album-tempest-plus-inspiration-for-artwork

Love the original recording with Ian Gillan singing the part of Jesus.  In fact, I've got a strange sentimental attachment to it.  There are parts of it that really move me.  I was born in 1971 and my parents told me that it was on constant rotation when I was in the womb.  I've always wondered what the psychological impact of that was on me.   Smiley

As to the question of "blasphemy", I wouldn't use so strong a word.  It definitely emphasizes the humanity of Jesus and ends with the crucifixion, not the resurrection.  So, some Christians might find it a bit lacking.  But it was never meant to be an evangelistic tract.

I enjoy it for the great music.  IMHO, it's the best Andrew Lloyd Webber ever did.

A bit OT, but is there a difference in the single/album mixes of TWGMTR (song) or is this the same mix in both places?  I vaguely recall this being discussed elsewhere but can not find the answer.

It's been suggested there is an extra keyboard or something on the album version. Not sure if I can hear that, myself.

The two versions do seem to be mastered (possibly mixed) somewhat differently -- the single seems to be more compressed.

as i posted before, album top, single bottom:

thanks mr m!

Best since Love You, and most Brian involvement since Love You. No coincidence.

+1

That said, Wilson Phillips' version of "Daniel" comes from that album, and is pretty decent. Ironic that the kids could do it properly while the older family members just seemed like the crazy uncles who want to be hip (which I suppose they were).

Totally agree.  That cut is the best one on the album.

A down-side of getting older.

Japanese EMI Catalogue numbers for the already-flagged up remasters:

TOCP-71371
TOCP-71372
TOCP-71373
TOCP-71374
TOCP-71375
TOCP-71376
TOCP-71377
TOCP-71378
TOCP-71379
TOCP-71380
TOCP-71381
TOCP-71382

All consecutive, which might suggest that other titles won't be slipped out later.

Darn…

No reason to assume that the catalog numbers must be consecutive.  There have been numerous re-master programs over the years that did not release all of a band's titles en masse and/or in order.

To give the guy his props, he really does sound like Frankie Valli.  But, I agree he was totally inappropriate on the Brian/Carl parts.

TBH I don't know how anyone can think that's NOT Brian. Huh

Agreed.  And it is not an especially high falsetto.  Compare it to Surf's Up next time you are singing along with it in the car.

Maybe someone has noted this before.  David's singing reminds me of Steve Miller.  I really notice it on his recent solo stuff.
143  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Will you go and see Mike's Beach Boys after the 50th Anniversary tour ends? on: June 25, 2012, 07:53:41 AM
Absolutely!  Bethlehem in May was my very first BB show and I left singing the praises of Scott Totten and John Cowsill.  Loved everything about the show, but it would be worth the $$$ just to see their ace playing alone.  Add some of the Boys to the mix, Brian's tunes, and you've got a fun evening.

'Across The Border' by ELO completely rips off Heroes & Villains. Give it a listen and see.

Related to this one would be:

"Forever" by Roy Wood (heavy BB influence along with some Neil Sedaka)

"Oh What A Shame" by Roy Wood (play that one after Heroes & Villains- definite influence there)

"The Way Life's Meant to Be" by ELO (play that one after "Oh What A Shame" and note similarities to that one, H&V, and it borrows the "Be My Baby" rhythm)

Mike:  If Adele and The Beach Boys got together and did a Super Session album, it would be a gas.

They could place "Vegetables" somewhere in that second set, maybe right after "Add Some Music To Your Day", and have a lot of fun with it.

"Vegetables" would be the perfect choice to please both hard-core and casual fans.
