As an aside, I wonder what Mike is thinking when the Pet Sounds tunes get more applause than Kokomo, which completely destroyed the momentum from where I was sitting. Wibn and sloop, gok and I just wasn't made for these times got the biggest cheers of the night!!!
Agreed, Kokomo definitely destroyed the momentum.

To be honest, I hope any possible future release (which i suppose we shouldn't be getting our hopes up about) will be of original material, the 'Boys won't be around too much longer! Plus any redoing of songs would end in an inevitable digital massacre that would make us all cry.

As i posted last week, picked up 'Love You' in great condition for £6 from an auction rooms. Have had much luck with charity shops in the past, picked up things like Lou Reed's 'Berlin' and 'Transformer' for £1. Some charity shops are getting smart and realizing that some of the records are worth something though, and get a specialist in to price them (as far as i can tell oxfam and british heart foundation are the two in my charity shop filled town that do that); So a fairly early (and quite battered) pressing of 'With The Beatles' cost me a tenner, and have seen Sunflower priced at £15 (which was beyond my budget that week). Got a new 180 gram pressing of Wild Honey that sounds absolutely vile, i mean that album could do with a serious remaster as it is but the new (i surmise somehow-digitally pressed) vinyl does it no favours whatsoever (I did the same with Fairport Convention's "What We Did On Our Holidays" and vow never again to buy a modern pressing of an old record)

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: TWGMTR CD Problem?
|

Just wondering if anyone else is having problems playing the new CD on the car player. As soon as I put it in there was this constant clicking sound and it skipped a bit once I got to the title track. I went back to the store and exchanged for another copy and it had the same problem. Either I'm ridiculously unlucky, there's something wrong with the car's CD drive, or there's something wrong with the batch the store was selling. I'm leaning toward the second option, but the problem is every other CD I own seems to work fine on it. Is there possibly something with the way the new CD was made that would cause me problems on a car player? I should also mention it seems to be working alright on the CD player (though I haven't listened to the whole thing). I just wondered if any of you audio aficionados might be able to help. It would be nice to hear the album while cruising. try ripping it to your computer in iTunes with 'audio correction' switched on in the preferences? then rip a CD from that? or just take it back?

As much as I respect the contribution of Darian and others, the fact is that Foskett is absolutely the most important person in that band for Brian Wilson. I have no idea why people on this board dislike him so strongly, but the fact is the wheels would have come off the wagon a long, long time ago were it not for the trust Brian has in him. He seems like a loyal, sincere person in interviews, and he takes care of business vocally. What's the problem?
I can't speak for others on the board, but for me it's his falsetto I hate. It sounds weird and forced, which when compared directly to the spiritual qualities of Brian's falsetto, just can't hold water.

It would be good to see you all - I'm going with friends, but if there is opportunity for a pint beforehand, lets do it Yeah I'm up for that, as will be there on me tod! Edit : fwiw, I do have friends. Even a girlfriend and 2 kids. But no one to share the BB with, alas. Except this beautiful board, of course. And I've made the mistake of taking non fans to Brian shows in the past .... I'm there with my girlfriend, but i'm in too!

To top off a beautiful week of getting the new beach boys album and booking my tickets to see them at wembley, I go down to the diamond jubilee celebrations in my town at the start of a four day weekend and happen to pop in to the local auction rooms and see a mint first UK pressing of 'Love You' on vinyl. I realise this isn't interesting discussion, i'm just quite happy about it.

Well if the thing with High Llamas f*cked up, i guess it couldn't go anywhere, but how was that impossible ? Brian Wilson had an epic album to offer, the boys aren't doing much expect for touring and obviously aren't interesting young kids, why keep on trying ? why not take time and create real music again ?
Can someone give me the lowdown on the high llamas thing, i have no idea what it's about?

I've always skipped over this track, as only since i have become a member of this forum have I begun to examine the 80s beach boys contributions under greater scrutiny. It always pissed me off that this is the first track to come up on youtube when you type in 'Beach Boys' and the 80s production is easily enough for a '91 born muso-snob me to turn my head away from.. but since i've read this thread, I'VE REALIZED THAT I LOVE KOKOMO, I LOVE IT ALRIGHT, I THINK CARL'S VOCALS TURN IT INTO ONE OF THOSE SPIRITUAL BEACH BOYS MOMENTS.
