Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Adrian Baker ?

I've listened to Baker and Foskett carefully, and my ears tell me that Baker has a trained voice capable of a greater range of styles, pitches, and timbres. Whereas Foskett (bless his heart) is pretty much a one trick pony, and it's not THAT great of a trick. Let me also add that altho neither sounds like Brian very much (just achieving a falsetto soprano doesn't mean you sound like Brian Wilson), I'd say that Baker is capable of coming closer than Foskett.
Well said, JanBerryFarm. I too think Adrian sings better than Jeff. Liked his falsetto in "Daybreak Over the Ocean" & the Four Seasons songs. As for the 2nd sentiment, I agree, neither of them sounds like Brian (no one can actually, at least not exactly like Brian, there will still be a minor difference) & agree that Baker is better Brian soundalike than Jeff. F.ex., I can well imagine Adrian sing "Mother May" & "Baker Man".

THIS forum is second only to Youtube comments in terms of total lack of basic manners and respect for others opinions. I mean, one guy posted pictures of mutilated corpses.
The guy's name is EthanJames. As was rightly stated by rab2591, that case must be forgotten since Ethan apologized several times for his behavior. Plus, it was the only example of him being a bad poster. Aside from that, he was a good contributor in picture, official BB YT & other threads. So let's not try to notice only evil in people. Even I. Spaceman who had constant feuds with other posters for disagreeing with him or whatever was admittedly one of the most knowledgeable BBs'/music in general fans here. As for comparing this forum with "Youtube comments", the latter does actually have many interesting info from various users, there isn't basically rudeness going on. F.ex., Youtube was the 1st place where I found out about "At My Window" & Kingston Trio's "Raspberries, Strawberries" cross similarity (which yet I think is too minimal & the former is better anyway). In short, don't be one-sided, if I may say this. Speaking of the Facebook Brian's photo, to be honest, it isn't the worst one, though also obviously not what I'd call "beautiful". I usually use this word for describing places, e.g. neon-lights-covered New York City or sth. with scenic landscape etc. OR in case of the Beach Boys - their music. 2Allan Heron: Welcome to the board & have a fascinating reading time! Think in mind as if you returned from hell to the planet.

An Al Jardine Story
1. Sloop John B 2. At My Window 3. Cottonfields 4. Take a Load Off Your Feet 5. Lookin' At Tomorrow 6. Don't Go Near the Water 7. He Come Down 8. All This Is That 9. California 10. Come Go With Me 11. Kona Coast 12. Lady Lynda 13. Santa Ana Winds 14. School Day (Ring! Ring! Goes the Bell) 15. California Calling 16. Crack at Your Love 17. Waves of Love 18. Don't Fight The Sea 19. A Postcard From California 20. Sloop John B (A Pirate's Tale)
5 out of 5: every compilation with At My Window, Sloop John B, Lady Lynda & Take A Load Off Your Feet deserves an A mark imo. That said, if I were you, I'd also add The Beaks of Eagles, Help Me, Rhonda/Ronda, Loop De Loop & Crocodile Rock. The latter is jolly entertaining song with excellent lead (read - leading) vocal from Al. Besides, I would switch the 1st 2 tracks - the 'fly away", Winnie-The-Pooh-influenced tag ---> the famous flute intro = mesmeric segue which works flawlessly. Btw, it seems like you give 2 titles to your songlist, "The Real Beach Boy" being alternate, as I understood. Rather unusual. Well he didn't write Sloop John B either (and isn't there some evidence now that Brian had worked on the song long before Al ever even suggested they cover it?).
Interesting tidbit. Where'd you read about it? Ask it because I've usually heard it Al gave an idea to Brian & Co. to cover this traditional - arrange it, record the vocs yada yada.

I didn't know that Christmas song as well. This YT version is magnificent! The singing is beautiful. Shall definitely add it to my collection. As for similarity between the melodies of both songs, to my ears, there's not much of it, only tiny amount. And to be honest, I think Mary's Boy Child is better. 2bossaroo: Great photoshop work done here! Al very fits for the role of the hero, especially Robocop since I used to like that movie. Re autotune: after reading the complaints about it in various threads, I still don't hear what most of you hear, i.e. horrible voice effects etc. I reckon the Beach Boys sounded groovy on all autotuned TWGMTR tracks. Idk, there's real coolness in the way they sang. Yes, it's a bit robotic, I agree, but at least it's not some eurodance/europop band we're talking about --> that's where it's dreadful. The BBs' music is already tremendous & a iota (or even slighly bigger amount) of autotuning won't ruin it & their voices. Just my 50 cents to the interesting discussion.
