5751  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Pete Seeger. on: January 29, 2014, 01:59:08 AM
Would you give it a rest about the topic location and provide your tribute re Pete Seeger's passing if you have one...
I'm just trying to be fair, for the board being a convenient place for everyone to see. Admit, Mr. Doe did the wrong thing posting it on the On Topic Discussions. Why advise Woodstock to move here & no one does the same to The "Legendary" AGD? That's an example of double standard, if there ever was one. Anyway, all the goodness to Pete Seeger & the survived family members. Luckily, he lived long & creative life. R.I.P.
5752  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Pete Seeger. on: January 29, 2014, 01:43:21 AM
Thanks to Smile-Holland for placing Mr. Doe's topic in here! Pete Seeger belongs to the General Music, it's so weird to read about him on the main board.
This will serve as a good lesson for Mr. Doe not to ignore the rules & that EVERYONE is equal before them.
5753  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Popular Beach Boys opinons on: January 29, 2014, 01:13:11 AM
We need a thread like this to balance out the unpopular opinions page
FYI, the poster called "shelter" already made a thread about them, there: http://smileysmile.net/board/index.php/topic,15942.0.html
Of course, you wouldn't know it as it's a creation from Summer 2013.
5754  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / Re: Opening the Gates of Hell: Petition to Unban Everyone on: January 28, 2014, 05:20:01 AM
There's no obsession with OSD...some folks just liked him, myself included.
Really? Then how would you describe the endless following his posts by his little circle of "fans", so to speak?

That will never happen. Saying the mods should "come to their senses" is just not appropriate considering what Ethan did. He may have been nice, but he was unstable.
So was I. Spaceman (or quoting hypehat, not my words, "Spaceass").
5755  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / Re: What are you watching now?/Favorite Movie of the moment on: January 28, 2014, 05:08:43 AM
As for Titanic, I'm a bit over it, but you must give A Night To Remember a try! It is the best Titanic film ever made, and the main character's the second officer, not some fictional character made for a love story. Titanic doesn't split in two in that film, but because it was made in 1958 and the wreck was discovered in 1985 which revealed that it split in two, they didn't know back then. So that can be excused. SOS Titanic from 1979 is the first one in colour, but it's crap. Titanic from 1996 starring Catherine Zeta-Jones, George C. Scott, Tim Curry, etc. isn't too bad, but very historically inaccurate. The 1953 Titanic is all-right at best, it has a young Robert Wagner, but I wouldn't reccomend it. The 1943 Titanic made in Nazi Germany I haven't got a chance to see yet, or any other Titanic film before that. The 2012 TV Miniseries isn't too bad, but it could have been better.

please check out A Night To Remember, I promise you won't regret it!
Not familiar with any of those "Titanic" versions, but now you've mentioned it, I saw the 1996 one and as I remember, I liked the main heroine there more than Kate Winslet's. Forgot her name, it's not Zeta-Jones. Okay, I'll take your word & check "A Night to Remember". Semi-related question: Have you heard of "Britannic", a 2000 movie & if so, do you know if it tells the story of Titanic just titled differently? I ask it coz you seem like an expert in all this sinking ship cinema.
5756  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / Re: What are you watching now?/Favorite Movie of the moment on: January 28, 2014, 04:22:20 AM
my favourites at the moment are Carrie (original)

How are those Stephen King movies boring? Shawshank Redemption is amazing, it's one film I can watch over and over again without getting sick of it, regardless of length!
Wow, totally forgot about "Carrie"! Sissy Spacek is an amazing actress, dug her in the Loretta Lynn biopic too, where she showed not only her acting skills, but also singing! I read in her Imdb that she actually auditioned for some records company sending them her demo & she had the same voice as Loretta! Interesting detail. Anyway, back to "Carrie" you rightly emphasized the original, as the other 2-3 were total trainwrecks. I generally don't favor the whole movie-remaking trend. Are there no ideas around? Plenty, just get the imagination & make it real.

Well, let's agree to disagree on "Shawshank...", can't stand it. Btw, have you seen any of the other Steve King films? Maybe the ones I've mentioned or "Misery", "Secret Window" (in words of Johnny Depp, he based his character on Brian Wilson - you know, that myth about him leading reclusive life for 3 years), "1408", "The Mangler" (which I also kinda enjoyed), "Salem's Lot", "Hearts in Atlantis"?
AS for "Titanic", it's highly overrated, but that's not to blame the actors, I quite liked the cast, in fact. It's just the extreme popularity & talks about it at the time that its effect faded after the 2nd watching or so.
5757  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / Re: What are you watching now?/Favorite Movie of the moment on: January 28, 2014, 03:39:08 AM
Sorry, but all those Kings films except "The Shining" I find extremely boring. "The Green Mile" could help to cure insomnia, f.ex., just switch it on & it works from the start. Your eyes are closing & you start yawning. I don't care if the film contains important message etc., the cast is not my favorite. Can't say anything good about "Christine", either, if only for the tame storyline.
Off the memory, my favorite King movies are "The Langoliers", "Desperation" (Ron Perlman is one cool guy!), "Dolores Claiborne" (just because Kathy Bates is so awesome), "It" (I like horrors about clowns), TV mini-series "Rose Red", "Riding the Bullet" (the soundtrack is great! I liked the use of The Zombies' Time of Season), "Cujo" (not a big dogs fan but this is such an impressive movie. Turn the lights off & it's even more fantastic), "Cat's Eye" (I love cats, so watching my favorite animal winning some vicious gnome at the end did enough for me) & "Needful Things" (I reckon its plot to be one of the most original in the horror genre. Not the usual vampire/ghost/werewolf thing. And Max son Sydow totally ruled!).
5758  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / Re: Opening the Gates of Hell: Petition to Unban Everyone on: January 28, 2014, 02:09:17 AM
Someone I would like unbanned is Ethan Clarke. He deeply, and genuinely regretted posting the gore pics. People were complaining he didn't look like he regretted it and was trying to get people to sympathize with him. But he has Autism so it can be really hard for people with Autism to communicate and show their feelings properly. After that nasty incident, he proved to be quite a good person who contributed greatly on the board with no incidents. Then Pixletwin and Stephen started going at him (to an extent, justifiable), Ethan makes one remark (People with Autism act like that under pressure) and Jason unfairly banned him. I say unban Ethan, and OSD of course. Now he's someone who's informative posts is deeply missed (especially by Smile Brian). He may have gone too far with the Mike bashing, but at least he never abused anyone or sent death threats!
Now that's someone who was undeservedly banned. I definitely wasn't alone on thinking TRBB was a bit too rough concerning Ethan. I don't see how it's so difficult to forgive someone who apologized for his actions, & not once. Whatever, the done is done & he still got banned. At least, he made history by posting one of the rarest images we've seen of The BBs.

RE OSD, I've nothing against him, but all that "Bring Back OSD" campaign seemed sorta ridiculous, as well as unhealthy obsession with him. Anyway, as I've said, enough of talking these folks, there are others unmentioned.
5759  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / Re: Opening the Gates of Hell: Petition to Unban Everyone on: January 28, 2014, 01:35:21 AM
His treatment to people he disliked was enough for him to be banned, In fact that was why he was banned in the first place.
The death threats to poor Billy only made sure he would never return.
Ovi got the point, actually, and I think even Billy himself will confirm that Ian made some of the most informative posts in the board's history. But it isn't questioned here, what I'll never understand is how easily he got away with all the offensive stuff he'd told the folks. To my knowledge, he never was banned till that sad case. Suspect it's sth. to do with his long-term buddy relationship with The Real Beach Boy. And one would use simple logic that everyone must be equal before the rules.
5760  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Pete Seeger dies aged 94. on: January 28, 2014, 01:04:24 AM
Much as I respect rn57 & enjoy his great recollections, I disagree that Mr. Seeger should stay on the main board. Al is a folk fan but does it mean we must bring every famous folk musician who somehow made an influence on Al here?
5761  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / Re: Opening the Gates of Hell: Petition to Unban Everyone on: January 28, 2014, 12:57:55 AM
People are banned for a reason and they need to stay banned.
Totally agree with you, MB! Though, if you started talking about the banhammered folks, why, of all people, go on remembering I. Spaceman? I think it's disrespectful to remind Billy of that case. Come on, there were many others, except him & old surfer.
5762  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Pete Seeger dies aged 94. on: January 28, 2014, 12:45:18 AM
Also, could someone move this to the General Music Discussion?
Yes, I didn't get how Pete Seeger relates to all things BBs. As a long-time poster, Mr. Doe should have known that we've got special place for non-Smiley stuff here.
5763  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / Re: Your favorite food on: January 27, 2014, 05:25:12 AM
I love a cooked breakfast. Good thing too because next Saturday I should be doing a breakfast challenge at a local restaurant. If you can finish it within 1 hour the meal is free. The catch is it's fucking enormous!!
It consists of
6 eggs
12 sausages
A whole packet of bacon
4 hash browns
4 black pudding slices
A tin of beans
3 whole tomatoes
Chips
A very large omelette
and the killer.....
4 slices of fried bread, 4 slices of toast and four slices of bread and butter.
Oh and a can of coke (I wonder if they do Diet Coke?)

Only two people have ever completed it and no, I'm not sure if they are still alive!!

I've recently accepted the fact that my slimline physique from my youth is gone forever - however I'm still a long way from fat bastard territory. I am greedy though and feel confident I can win.
Wow, they must have suffered from excessive barfing, then... unless they are professional eaters & set the Guinness record on fast eating. So if I were you I'd rather pay the money for a small-sized breakfast than eat such a BIG amount of meal for free. And anyway, I don't like every food item in your post minus dessert. Plus I'm a very slow eater - for example, I consume 3 windows of chocolate - not the whole thing, mind you - like for half an hour or more.
5764  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / Re: Outside the Smiley board on: January 27, 2014, 04:57:58 AM
Yr basing my acting on inebriated karaoke??? You've never seen me act. That's like saying, idk, you're a terrible poet based on the prose posts you write here. LOL at you thinking i'm somehow not getting the artistry of the goshdarn Ignition remix across, it's hardly 'To be or not to be'

BTW I am a banging actor if I say so myself, sold out shows, got some good reviews, played lead in several things (Shakespeare and other things), but then there's no way you can pass judgement on it because you've never seen me act. Sorry if i'm overreacting.
Fair answer but then again, weren't you doing an R Kelly impersonation, donning the black coat & even repeating his intro spoken lines? I'd say it can at least be considered a small type of acting. Yes, it's no Hamlet, however, it's not necessarily about serious performance, being an entertainer is a complex task too, as you may know. That's what I hinted at. Anyway, it's a positive sign that you are confident about your real talents etc. Belittling yourself ain't good.
5765  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Today's Mainstream Music on: January 27, 2014, 04:01:43 AM
Yeah, at first Bieber would be trash-talking trying to look like a "badass", and throws the first punch. Then he gets a punch to the face. He doesn't get knocked out, and gives a barrage of punches. Bieber's punches are so weak that the paparazzi can barely feel a thing. Then the paparazzi would kick him in the gut, bringing Bieber down with a scream of pain. Then the paparazzi starts on him, just pinning Bieber down and going at him, with no mercy as he had enough of Bieber's douchebag attitude and his crappy music. Bieber starts begging for him to stop, and starts crying. Every time he tries to fight back he fails miserably. Finally, a bunch of people pull the paparazzi off him and call the police and ambulance.
In the aftermath, Bieber gets sued by the paparazzi on the grounds that Bieber threatened and attacked him first and he only attacked back on self-defence. Bieber's face is unrecognisable due to the punches he sustained, and he is disgraced and is force to retire. He spends the rest of his miserable life at his mum's home in Canada.

Imagine if that happens in real life, that would be awesome! And this is coming from someone who doesn't usually support violence
I never cared about Bieber but you went totally overboard by posting this. I mean, he didn't do anything bad to you & your family personally. Why would you even waste time in writing sth. cruel like this? Or better yet, why would you follow his news discussing what bad he'd done then or now etc. if you clearly don't like his music? I thought everyone who's not into some artist ignores them & concentrates on their favorites.
5766  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: The Weirdest Photos Of Mike Love You Can Find on: January 27, 2014, 03:37:48 AM
Hey... I don't even want to see member photos! Cheesy
Why? It might suddenly occur that you're actually familiar with some of them. You know, it's possible.
5767  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Would Surf's Up have been the Greatest? on: January 27, 2014, 03:31:15 AM
One of the best album covers of all-time btw.
I honestly can't get what's so good about the Surf's Up album cover. Everyone seems to like it, for some odd reason, when it's really nothing earth-shattering. Maybe I missed some fact about the cover that would reveal its good features? What I see is a guy with an arrow sitting at the horse leaning forward as if he's just about to fall out.

The LP was #15, in the UK, and #29 In the US, despite now being considered #154 of the 500 Rolling Stone ranked albums of all time.
Wiki is a wrong source for checking up these things. Except for Pet Sounds, only Sunflower & Today (2012 update) made it to the RS list. Unfortunately, as it's a really great album.
5768  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Unpopular Beach Boys opinions on: January 27, 2014, 02:54:49 AM
Not to mention Brian and Mike's vocal interplay on the tag is a seriously great moment - no foolin'.
I've been saying exactly the same thing in various topics; that tag is one of the unforgettable moments in the whole BBs canon. Most notably Brian's achingly beautiful wailing.
5769  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: if their older selves went back to 1964, what would they say on: January 27, 2014, 02:01:55 AM
We'll never know how many classics we never even got because Brian took those drugs! I'll take a world with a healthy Brian any day over a world with "California Girls". I'd even trade "Good Vibrations" for Brian's health.
+10.000.000-ad infinitum times!
5770  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / Re: Cake vs. Pie on: January 26, 2014, 01:25:49 AM
You may be eating the wrong apples! Nothing boring about a honeycrisp, jazz, pink lady, or granny smith apple! I'd say pie for sure, and not just for good apple pies, but also lemon merengue, blueberry, strawberry-rhubarb, and any other delicious variants. Not that I'm above a good cake, either.
I recognized some of those sorts, even them I didn't like. Generally, if I dislike sth., I stay firmly with that opinion, no matter how many kinds or flavors that sth. has. Talking further about pies, I checked all the stuff you've written. Lemon meringue looks very cool. I'm fond of citrus fruits.

2 feelsflow: I knew that it's cold in New York, but I didn't know that it's that cold that even kids stay at home. And yes, I agree that more snow is a good sign. I like snowy weather.

2 hypehat: I said you weren't good at acting based on this video posted on the Karaoke thread: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_3yCPsVtOg&feature=youtu.be
I agree with Billy, the rhythm was delivered well, but that's it. No artistry, lack of playfulness etc. So, I was being realistic rather than rude when I left that remark. Don't know why pixletwin or anyone thought so. However, I agree about the BBs + acting comment, it's indeed possible to have both in one. Bad phrasing on my side, though I'm sure I meant sth. I don't recall now.

2 Zach: You hoped rightly, I don't live there. You know, Russia is a big land & consists of lots of regions. The 1 you mentioned I've never been to. -65 is a crazy temperature even for Russian winters. The place where I live is -40 at worst; luckily it happens occasionally. For instance, today it is -21-19.

Nice but am sure it's due to liking generally Christmas music.
5773  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Your Favorite Lou Reed Songs/Moments on: January 24, 2014, 06:45:02 AM
I also love "Rock And Roll"...one of the coolest songs ever.  Smiley
No-no, that nomination applies to "Sweet Jane". It's a perfect song for walking in the street, insanely catchy & just all-around cool from start to finish! Often I choose it as my go-to song for home-made silly vocal imitation, goofing along with intonation, phrasing, accent & so on. That being said, I still love "RaR", some real groovy moments there.
5774  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Unpopular Beach Boys opinions on: January 24, 2014, 06:21:51 AM
Another unpopular opinion of mine: While I agree that "Prayer" is a fantastic majestic track, it's a terrible opener for an album called "SMiLE", especially with that funny album cover with the drawing of a SMiLE store. I mean, minor chords in a Gregorian chant like singing style when you expect fun?
Don't know if you missed it, but there were some talks about Our Prayer on the Jimmy F. thread where most people agreed in unity that it's not Gregorian chant. I'm with them too, I think (at least from what I've got; some of the terms were too scientific for me). You, Micha, decide for yourself.
5775  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Rolling Beach Boys covers thread on: January 24, 2014, 06:07:42 AM
Been surfing the net for more BBs covers & found Wild Honey by Nazareth (1st time I heard this band). Here's an mp3 I uploaded: http://www.sendspace.com/file/ybrtqz

I'm a fan of covers that don't sound like complete copycats, so it's good by me. Of course, the original is better & who can top Carl anyway, however I think the singer nailed it really well & distorted guitar was pretty cool. Nice replacement for theremin.
