I was just listening to "Come On In" from Birthday and I don't think I've ever heard anything so joyful and glorious.
I'm only aware of their hits & "Pandora's Golden Heebie Jeebie", so I went to check "Come On In" based on your description. I don't share your opinion, to me it was a tad monotonous, the main riff isn't joyful, it's groovy rather. I have lots of songs in my Winamp which I would categorize like joyful &/or glorious. F.ex., "Sugar Sugar" by The Archies or Kirsty MacColl's "There's A Guy Works down the Chip Shop Swears He's Elvis". Our own The BBs have a great deal of upbeat numbers.

Essential playlist choices are ridiculously obvious, except we have "I Know There's An Answer" in place of "Wouldn't It Be Nice" & "Sloop John B". Nothing wrong about it (actually, cool because it's underrated even by diehard fans), just wondering why so.

Judd, you are now my №1 favorite-ever poster. Full stop. Like Ron said, you didn't only exchange Brian's & Al's heads, but also made the shot look more reliable. Somehow I think you even removed the fat from the original legs, they seem less fat in the knee/hip area (or am I reading too much into this?). This IS classic, I agree with such comments. The photo looks so natural it's incredible. It cheered me up greatly, thank you.

This is my new wallpaper!
Mine as well!

The Landlocked version sounds like a Folgers coffee commercial  to me.
Don't know about that trademark but actually I too had impression after hearing the 4/4 that it could fit for commercial, maybe "Bounty" (boring chocolate, btw, and I'm a big chocolate fan).
5630  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Which version of Big Sur do you prefer? on: March 28, 2014, 06:06:59 AM
I think the harmonica reminds Monicker of Dylan, not the voice. I'm not particularly fond of Dylan myself. A formidable songwriter but impossible to listen to at any length.
Well, I'd be really surprised if that's so. Bob Dylan isn't like the 1st harmonica player ever in the whole music industry, is he? Not even a virtuoso. Fwiw, Brian Jones was a much better harmonica player.

We are 4 now, yahoo!

Sheriff, we're going to respectfully disagree with your assessment of Dylan being a "great" singer.

I'm not surprised it's possible to find out, I'm just surprised you're that interested!

The reason I don't log in except to post is that otherwise I would look in the "total time spent online" box and it would say something like "20 years, 8 months, 16 days and 32 minutes" and I would have to hang my head in shame.
Yep, that stuff can be fun. I'm just a little bit more observant than some of you, I suppose.

Tbh, I've also taken this step to quickly log in-log out to have less total time than it would (although I do think it's a wrong/kinda secretive thing to do).

5632  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / Re: you should be ashamed of yourselves on: March 28, 2014, 05:30:40 AM
You're scaring me a little here, Marianne. What else do you know about us all?
Here's more scary things: I know the folks who go under "hidden" status. They are Roger The Shrubber, Emdeeh, guitarfool2002, Woodstock, Smile Brian, Jarhead (the last 3 chaps were "online" before, though), monicker, Wirestone, Peter Reum, The Real Beach Boy, Sheriff John Stone, buddhahat, Fishmonk, KittyKat, Aegir (though he also used to be "online"), Ed Roach (?), I. Spaceman (from the past members) & other 20+ I didn't sort out (but will, don't worry!). Generally, this isn't that difficult to find out.
5633  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Which version of Big Sur do you prefer? on: March 28, 2014, 05:13:43 AM
The Holland version, on the other hand, reminds me of Bob Dylan and i have no tolerance for Bob Dylan.
Not sure how "Big Sur" Holland could remind you of Dylan, Mike's voice is absolutely different, but I thank you for saying the last bit. Now we're holy trinity of Dylan dislikers; Wrightfan also ignores him like sth. monstrous & tasteless cheap stuff. Dig people who have grits for contradicting the popular notion.

Ill have to go to smileysmile hell with best friend of jarhead ethan j clarke NOOOOOOO   what if I have disease does that make this okay or if i post some dead pics AUTISM!!!!
For someone who rarely hangs about here*, you've got excellent memory. I don't recall Rei/Jarhead mentioning anywhere that he's friends with Ethan. Not even in his introductory post, typical "My friend used to be a member of this board, his name Ethan J. Clarke, & so I also decided to join in this community". Wonder in what thread you saw this info.

*Though maybe you read this board offline like filledeplage, Alan Smith, Mikie (sometimes), the captain, rn57, seltaeb, Amy B. (not sure), JohnMill (maybe), EgoHanger (came to this habit later) & some others, only logging in if you're really willing to write.

4/4... the waltz is too bland
Sounds like waltz indeed, but it might be false. I read somewhere that some compositions have waltzy structures/timing but I forget what was the name for that case in music.
Answer to the original post: Big Sur Holland. 4/4 is good, only not enough cool (for me). Like Mr. Deprived said, it kinda meanders with no changes. At least in the Holland version we've got harmonica.
5636  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Cover songs better than their original on: March 24, 2014, 11:34:51 PM
Recently I remembered 1 song I never got to hear which was mentioned here many times - "Eve of Destruction". Because I like to compare all things-music, I went to listen to variety of covers & came to thinking that most of those beat the original. Especially The Grass Roots, I so liked their version I didn't even mind dylanesque intonations of the lead singer. Though "Eve of Destruction" is good regardless of who performs it. The melody may sound generic, but I ignore this flaw as long as I enjoy the song, more so if it has catchy chorus.
5637  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / Re: Merged: (Your)Favorite Movies on: March 24, 2014, 10:34:51 PM
Some pages ago Paulos started the unfavorite movie listing. I'll rejoin by naming "The Exorcist". Believe it or not, I never saw it before, but I heard plenty about its greatness. So I watched it today &... found the opening scene the most tolerable. The rest is so awfully boring, all the episodes with the Karras guy, Silvester Stallone wannabe. Also didn't get what's the point with Sharon, secretary or whoever of the girl's mother. She didn't help much, even left the girl alone to go shopping. Wanna see laughable racist fight started by a weirdo? Check. Bunch of dull old men in white arranging a round table? Check. Finally & most importantly, wanna see hilarious "Chucky bride" face? Check & check. The only saving grace were Merrin (the brilliant Max von Sydow), mother, another mother (Greek woman) &, of course, Lieutenant Kinderman who added the humor to this "horror" film [airquotes]. So, on a count of the above, I give "The Exorcist" 4/10.

How about something like this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xy84N_U5jw0

YES this is hilarious.

So far the funniest songs have been ..., Valkyries, ...
Wonder what you did find hilarious about it. All I hear is boring Slavic low-voiced chanting in the background and boring interchanges. At what 2nd or minute I mean.
Valkyries sounds like a flight of witсhes. Kind of, only not scary. Anyway, that's a cool tricky idea, Woodstock. I'd fool people in the street too if I had the tendency to follow all the trends, be it clothes or iPhone. Maybe I'd've used this song:

7-11 - Dance the Slurp - listen to the slurping noises solo.
5639  Smiley Smile Stuff / The Beach Boys Media / Re: TeenSet June 1965-- BBs Adventures In Europe on: March 23, 2014, 11:38:09 PM
I liked the author's descriptive writing style. The article went interesting, lots of never-read-befores. Some of my favorites:

Quote
He threw an order for chop suey but looked hungrily at the piano. ... unable to wait longer, he edged the piano player off the stool and started whomping the keys in a creative frenzy. The piano player yanked the stool away. Brian continued to bang the piano sitting on the floor. ... a bruiser-bouncer with Samson muscles & Frankenstein eyebrows broke his trance by slamming down the keyboard cover. Brian darted out into the street, whistled up a Danish cab and raced back to the Royal hotel.

Quote
He conceived a sudden mad passion for a huge golden goddess statue in the courtyard of the Palais de Challion. Vowing to steal a kiss, he leaped to the edge of a water-filled moat. ... climbed a three-tiered fountain, hauled himself up a 10-foot column to reach his love goddess & began kissing her cool smiling metallic mouth. Quick-thinking Al Jardine yelled, "Cheese it! The cops!" That brought Brian down quick.

The latter is beyond insane, though. If it weren't for Brian, I'd be scared of anyone acting in public as such.

[before] potato dumplings [after]
I love casual dumplings with meat filling, or how they called in Russia - "pelmeni". Homemade ones are delicious! Generally, I like the homemade food, not a cafe or restaraunt rover.

Reading this thread, I noticed majority likes(-ed) eating chicken for the dinner. Kind of funny your tastes, except for being the BBs fans, also match on this culinary stuff.
5641  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Cover songs better than their original on: March 21, 2014, 11:06:19 PM
Not long ago, I found that Skip-A-Long Sam isn't the Sugar Shoppe song but the Donovan cover. 1st time I heard it I thought what a tremendous song that is. After listening to the original, my opinion still remains, & it's not only because I'm not too keen on Donovan's voice, but also because it was overall pretty dull. For instance, in the tag, the Sugar Shoppe made a sudden key change, went from the whole forte vibe to piano, brass orchestra minimizing to acoustic guitar & chatter. Also, love whistling, it's a thing I enjoy hearing consistently on all songs that feature it. Judge for yourself:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2m3wmnyU3c

Fun fact: one of the bandmates was Victor Garber who played the captain's chief helper in "Titanic". If any of you are his fans, be shocked (in a good way).
5642  Smiley Smile Stuff / The Beach Boys Media / Re: My quick drawing of Brian on: March 20, 2014, 10:10:46 PM

Some folks said, it looks like heroes of comic book. Don't know about that. What I do know is I didn't get Mike's haircut rightly. The real Mike has bigger forehead.

I sincerely wait for any of you to post your own drawings. I'm sure some of you have a knack at this thing. F.ex., Ego could share his other drawings, aside from his very cool Brian avatar.
5643  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: How about that Beatles show!? on: March 20, 2014, 09:55:14 PM
Walsh was great... but I have to admit, his vocal stylings aren't to my taste at all. I thought his voice sounded  awful.
I didn't see the whole show, only by bits, but I specifically came to this thread to say that I'm a huge Joe Walsh fan! Have a half of the James Gang catalog & all the Barnstorm recordings. To me, he is one of the best guitar players, along with Peter Green, Pete Townshend, Jimmy Page & Roy Buchanan. But what I like even more about Joe is exactly his vocal stylings. It's creaky & kind of aback as though he didn't clear his voice, yet very funky. So to each their own.

I agree with EgoHanger - "Imagine Dragons" were a real treat; their "Revolution" is a model for how to outclass the legends. And I never heard of this band before!
5644  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Which bands do you own a COMPLETE discography for? on: March 19, 2014, 10:48:06 PM
I see now. Mr. Waves, why so ironic? Instead of going with that captain remark, you could just chock it off to simple "ditto" or +1.
5645  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / Re: The horrors of the internet... on: March 19, 2014, 10:36:19 PM
This is plain wrong. With a talented photo manipulator, you would not be able to tell the difference. I struggle to believe that most people, upon hearing that there is a photoshopped picture of their face on a nude body on the internet, and realizing their job is on the line, would be able to remain cool and confident.
Very likely that you're right; I'm not into tech stuff, how all it works etc. But, whatever fake photo I've seen, I could quickly tell it from the natural shot. Maybe that was not photoshop-heavy, though. As for your 2nd point, I guess that's a psychological thing, i.e. if the woman knows she never posed in the nude right before the camera, she remembers that clear as a day, so what to worry about? Just say to a boss with a self-confident expression on your face, "That's not me". And pass him/her by on your way to your working place/corner/royally decorated cabinet.
5646  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Which bands do you own a COMPLETE discography for? on: March 19, 2014, 09:59:47 PM
Not sure what you mean by that. Are you addressing to one of our informative posters the captain now?
5647  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Which bands do you own a COMPLETE discography for? on: March 19, 2014, 09:50:52 PM
Oh, yes, quite clear. Thank you for your assistance.
You're welcome, Mr. Waves. I like to help newbies where I can. There should be more new people on this place.

As for myself, I have my faves only digitally (unfortunately). NRBQ, The Freak Scene, Kaleidoscope etc.
5648  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Which bands do you own a COMPLETE discography for? on: March 19, 2014, 09:36:15 PM
Not really a mistake. Buddy Holly was in the Crickets, but only made one album with them. Which is the one I own.
Yes, mistake. The "Chirping" Crickets is the title of the album, not name of the band. So, you'd better write "Buddy Holly & The Crickets"; we don't list the actual discography here, only the list of artists we own in entirety. Hope it's all clear now for you.

Why carefully? Just post your other favorites, it's that easy. ...unless, of course, you've no idea who are your favorite artists (and spector hardly counts on that field), can't remember their names.
