Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Happiest Songs?

If the songs were completely happy I probably would not like them because I would not be able to relate to something that purely happy. FWIW, I don't really deal with any sort of serious depression.
More power to you, but it's limiting to only listen to relatable stuff. There are tons of beautiful feel-good happy-go-lucky songs out there. As to your 2nd point, yes, people can get sad w/o depression. They falsely call it 'd', coz most of them like to exaggerate where necessary & un. But I suppose some only hear joy/happiness in the music. In *all* music? 'course not. Where'd you get this idea? Honestly, for a really long time "Sunshine" was the song that made me feel happiest.
That song get's so much hate on here and I'll never understand it.
Me too! I love it. Once you pay attention to how good the Boys sound, it's never a filler. Also, Surfin' USA, Good to My Baby, Barbara Ann, Cabinessence, Beaches in Mind, Lavender, Let's Go Trippin' (Concert version; studio 1 is too dull). etc. etc. etc....

By order: 2Mike Garneau: you're right. Joanna's voice is the chief reason I can't get into her music. She *has* talent & I actually liked the melody of "Peach, Plum, Pear". But that squeaky mousey awful voice... no thanks. Re Tracy Ullman, that song was written by Kirsty MacColl, who was a friend of Tracy & sang back-ups on her version. Here's original sung by Kirsty: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kIsyQ2qCDQ82Rei: well, I lied. Checking up my playlist, I listened to "For Your Love" & really liked. Will see if they've got "Roger the Engineer" on musicmp3.spb.org. Last post otm; Ozzy owned it. Dio was like a 5th wheel in Black Sabbath. Should've stuck in "Rainbow" & other side bands of his. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ "In the Midnight Hour". Joan Baez "Little Darlin'" ("Forrest Hills concert")> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Us1hOp8OG4vs. Gladiolas "Little Darlin'" (original)> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hHsSkI81Sgk

Aww, The Yardbirds are one of my favourite bands....
Never cared for The Lion Sleeps Tonight.
Keith Relf has good voice, sure, but lack of quality songwriting & uninspiring covers is too much for me to like them. Tastes differ, what can ya do. Now, 'The Lion' IS one of my favorite ever songs. So snappy! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Frank Wilson, altho I didn't like both. But for the game's sake... Peach, Plum, Pear, Joanna Newsom> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KcHjAUhtSrkvs. They Don't Know, Tracy Ullman > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_BilUu5Ip7sIf you ask me, I like Kirsty MacColl's version more. Bless her soul, she had beautiful voice.

I associate it mainly with self-confidence and being comfortable in your own skin. Once you have that, you can be nerdy and still be cool, intellectual cool, jocky cool, outcast cool, crazy cool, shy cool and so on. Cool. Edit: mental note to self never interact with Ovi on the board or I'll likely fall asleep. It's even worse in the Sandbox. Imagine Mari - orig. Ms. Sandman. Ha!

John definitely lost weight during that period. Wasn't '66 his "fat Elvis" (his words) period? So he gained weight between 1964 and 1966 and then was noticeably thinner in 1967. Weight loss in his face would also make him look older.
Paul has a cap on one of his front teeth. There are photos from about 1966 where it's not there. So maybe his teeth looked slightly different after he got the cap replaced.
Who cares? Paul is a rabbit, naturally. And John had always wanted to get thin. So nothing to see here. Ho-hum. Today, it's unthinkable that a pop band would pose for photos with one band member showing off his chipped tooth, but the Beatles did. You honestly think that in this age & era people would care about a tooth cap? It's a freak show nowadays, jus' look around. The young 'stars' do the whole sesh of weird posing/mimics. Because it was hippie time in mid-60s doesn't mean it was an epitome of freedom. That whole hippie stuff is so laughable, what with the clothing & hilarious pacifist thoughts.

Dunno even half of these people; otherwise, mine are:
The BBs (their being 'underdogs' gives 'em extra coolness) Iggy Pop (singing AND playing a girl in "Dead Man". Didn't know I would get to see Iggy wearing a bonnet, ha!) Lou Reed (2 words:"Sweet Jane") Robert Mitchum (agree with this choice, he's terrific actor, can play at ease both villains & heroes) Sylvester Stallone (might be the best-looking actor of all-time. Imo. Has comedic talent too, watch "Oscar" 'n' "Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot") Ron Perlman (underrated by all means. Severe appearance backed with amazingly gracious & noble attitude) Mel Blanc (for voicing one of my favorite cartoons. Esp. 80s "Heathcliff" (title character)) Tim Kazurinsky (best Ozzy imitation, & other SNL skits + starring in "Police Academy", which is cool alone)

Sunshine pop seems to contain slight, ever so slight, traces of psychedelia. Like an ingredient that adds to the overall flavor of the song. Even the lyrics sometimes, seemingly so lightweight and pedestrian, seems to carry a melancholic and ethereal tinge of psychedelia: like bent sunshine. Like the lyric in Happiness Is by The Association: "watch the balloon you buy just to let fly away". Blew my mind when I first heard that! lol Comments?
Yes! I said sth. along the lines upthread: >> Hey, kwan-dk check out the Hobbits' album "Down to Middle Earth". It isn't entirely 'sunshine', but we know that most of it goes well w/ psychedelia. At least songs I heard one would define "sunshine pop", actually have tinges of various other genres, esp. psych.<< This is great thread overall. When youtube gets fast, I'll sure check all the links out. 2 krabklaw: good thing about the blogs is they enable downloading. not just write the info.

2Micha 'n' rab: I know that opinions vary, I was kind of taken aback by your assertion of "'Til I Die=sad song". I couldn't disagree more, so it turned hyperbolic. Y'know, the common thing for hypehat or Erik H, to name a few. It's just a form of expression. It's not about competition 'mine opinion is valid over others'. *You* said that, not me.

John Lennon hangs out at, I think, the Whisky A Go Go with Jayne Mansfield. Finds out she's into numerology. Determines her death date, and also his own. Creepy.
I see he liked to hang about w/ elder people (hint: Yoko Ono). Where'd you read this curio? Re "Paul is dead" rumors, I don't believe it one bit, coz it's impossible to find someone with exactly the same appearance, unless the cloning was created back then. All those people they must be insane or extremely gullible/deluded. Just a stupid bunch.

Don't worry, I don't worry about my hearing. don't think your position is more valid than ours. Where you folks get this stuff? (rhetorical question) See what happens when you forget to add "imo" to your post.
