I'd love to get ahold of the full version… the "jam" (as it's been refered to) is when it starts to get interesting, but is cruelly cut short on the version most (all?) of us have heard. One for MiC II.

Agree 100%.  I would love to hear an extended version of this track.  Just as it's about to get into an amazing instrumental section ala Feel Flows it fades out!

Good news, L&M is showing near me at the local arthouse/indie cinema so I'll will get to see it on the big screen this weekend.

Bad news, whilst checking to see where L&M was on I saw the same cinema showed The Wrecking Crew movie tonight (one showing only) and I missed it gaaaah!!!

XTC sitting out most of the 90s as they went on strike is a damn shame (curse Virgin Records.)  The Fuzzy Warbles series hints at what else could have been.

I think Skylarking would be my fave if push came to shove and I definately have Go2 and Mummer at the bottom of my list.

Fantastic work in this thread btw feelsflow :D

It's pretty clear in a lot of threads here that people don't post how they would talk to someone in real life.  Standard internet forum behaviour.

I'd be up for more/stronger action on people who are clearly being offensive and rude to others.  This is not needed and you can just ignore it but, as Donnie rightly says, it does serve to lessen, derail and ultimately prevent the more interesting conversations.

Can't wait for the first trailer, mine's a Guiness John, Cheers!  Beer

His name is spelt "Donny".  And I'm "Mikie".  And you're..........."Marky" or "Markie"?  Glad to meet you.  Cheesy

 LOL  Marky!  Cheers and likewise!

Just another voice saying Depression isn't a choice and suicide takes life the same way any other disease does.

Hopefully as a society we get more understanding of mental illness.  Seeing some of the reaction online seems like we have a way to go however.

'He was rich and famous with a lovely family, how could he let cancer kill him and leave his family behind' would never come out of anyone's mouth.  Should be the same with depression.

9  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian picks 10 summer songs...and yours? on: June 23, 2014, 01:35:45 PM
Minus the BB these songs remind me of 60's summers of my youth.  But I could list 100 songs.

Now, in no particular order

1. Summer In the City: The Hollies
2. Pleasant Valley Sunday: The Monkees
3. The Unknown Solider: The Doors
4. Happy Together: The Turtles
5. Hush: Deep Purple
6. Incense And Peppermints: Strawberry Alarm Clock
7. Shakin All Over: Guess Who
8. Pictures of Matchstick Men: Status Quo
9. Western Union: ???damn
10. Crimson and Clover: Tommy James and the Shondells

The Five Americans
10  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Alternate/personalized tracklists? on: June 17, 2014, 12:07:47 PM
I tried making a whole other album from all that great late 60s material:

Side 1
01. Old Man River (Vocal Section)
02. Break Away
03. San Miguel
04. Celebrate The News
05. Back Home
06. I Just Got My Pay
07. Mona Kana

Side 2
01. Soulful Old Man Sunshine
02. Sail Plane Song
03. Where Is She?
04. Walk On By
05. We're Together Again
06. Old Folks At Home/ Old Man River
07. Can't Wait Too Long

I have always loved this 'missing' albums worth of tracks that could make another release from around this time.  My current playlist is;

A)
01. Old Man River (Vocal Section)
02. Soulful Old Man Sunshine
03. Loop De Loop
04. Games Two Can Play
05. Susie Cincinatti
06. Celebrate The News
07. Sound Of Free

B)
01. Break Away
02. I Just Got My Pay
03. Good Time
04. H.E.L.P Is On The Way
05. San Miguel
06. We're Together Again
07. Old Folks At Home/Old Man River

A real easy enjoyable set of tracks at 36 mins
11  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Does anyone think there will be Beach Boys Deluxe Edition CDs? on: June 14, 2014, 09:02:54 AM
I think if XTC can manage to release deluxe blu-ray versions of their albums, so can The Beach Boys.
The toughest part would probably be getting everyone to agree on the contents of the deluxe release.

The main difference is that Andy Partridge has his own label and maybe has the rights to his albums back?  Not too sure on the last part but yeh, he has control of the releases put out and what's on them.

Imagine a Brian Wilson release similar to the 8cd Fuzzy Warbles Demos/unreleased/rarities set!
12  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian Wilson album update in Rolling Stone on: June 11, 2014, 05:44:04 PM
I'm just gunna harbour a dream of what could be (!) until we get more details/hear tracks/reality

"It's called Pleasure Island: A Rock Fantasy. It's about some guys who took a hike, and they found a place called Pleasure Island. And they met all kinds of chicks, and they went on rides and — it's just a concept. I haven't developed it yet. I think people are going to love it — it could be the best thing I've ever done."

Imagine Brian, Al, Blondie and friends duetting with 'the chicks', taking in all the fun rides, ft Hal Blaine as Pleasure Island tour guide/barker :D

It could be the best thing in a long time!
13  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian Wilson album update in Rolling Stone on: June 11, 2014, 10:54:05 AM
If this is the fun island (or whatever it was called) concept then I'm really happy.  Sounds like the Zooey track is from that idea at the very least.

Be nice to have a concept like TLOS.
14  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian Wilson album update in Rolling Stone on: June 08, 2014, 03:19:58 AM
Daydream time, I'd love to see something like Rick Rubin's work with Neil Diamond on '12 Songs' happen.  A great producer working with Brian's recent/unreleased material and essentially doing a stripped back/Love You sound with it.  The label/deal makers/whoever decides what Brian does now would likely disagree with such an idea but the fans (!) would adore it.

I have everything crossed that the new album will be good.  However it does sound like another GIOMH may be on the cards.  Not in relation to the resulting quality perhaps but just the random collaborators vibe.

I'm still counting everything after TLOS as a bonus :D

15  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: The XTC Place on: May 24, 2014, 12:54:39 PM
Love XTC :D

I first heard 'Pale & Precious' as someone recommended it to me as a Beach Boys fan.  After that I heard Mayor of Simpleton and those 2 songs were enough for me to commit to just buying all their albums I could find!  Got Skylarking first and that is one of my fave albums for any band now.  After absorbing the discography I bought Andy's Fuzzy Warbles series of unreleased/demos etc.

Then had a period of mourning for a great band who sat out a lot of the 90's on strike and may now never record as XTC again.  Shame.

Bit peeved that the new awesome looking reissues on Andy's own APE label have the bonus tracks on a blu ray disc.  Keeps costs and disc number down but I can't listen to em/burn em Sad  All the Nonsuch album as instrumentals would be amazing to have.

My faves?  Skylarking/Nonsuch/Apple Venus 1 & 2 but love em all really.

Well, this years beach boy tour is being called 50 years of FFF.  Next year 50 years of madness???, and the year after 50 years of PS?  Then, in 17, Beach Boys Love You long time tour?

 LOL  LOL  LOL
17  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: 'Fess up - who here likes Sweet Insanity? on: May 21, 2014, 06:58:39 AM
Just listened to the 2.0 version for the first time in a while and had a much better time than I remember having! It's kinda the Adult/Child to BW88's Love You - even more flawed than it's predecessor, but just as enjoyable. Almost unrestrainedly cheesy, but I could care less... Brian sounds like he's having a lot of fun. I agree that it probably gets a bad rep because of that horrid final track, but anyone can swap it for one of the outtakes; get rid of "Hotter" and replace "Smart Girls" with "Being With The One You Love" and "He Couldn't Get His Poor Old Body To Move" and you've got a worthy follow-up to BW88, I think.

I like that analogy!

I love the album on the whole but could do without Smart Girls and Thank You.

...and I always wish(ed) they would re-release "God Only Knows" as a single in the 2000's - with promotion - maybe when it appeared in a movie or something. I am curious how that song would be received by an entirely new/young/different generation. On a different subject, and not to derail this thread, but if I were running a record company, I would be re-releasing old, classic, timeless singles from the 1960's and 1970's to generations who missed it!

Sad but true story, a co-worker who loves the Beatles but once mocked me for liking the Beach Boys was humming GOK (it had been used in a British Gas advert) and I said 'good tune' she was like 'yeah it's a classic'.  She had no idea it was the Beach Boys....

'Summer In Paradise' album being played in full in a department store in Tokyo is probably the most random I've experienced!

I did a quick n lazy mash up of TWGMTR and Postcard before xmas and agree that if an album were to have been made using tracks from both it would have been a fantastic Beach Boys album.  I really wanted to include Shelter but I was trying to make it as 'Beach Boys sounding' as possible and in Shelter Foskett is too prominent for me.

A
1) Think About The Days
2) TWGMTR
3) Spring Vacation
4) California Feelin' (Postcard)
5) Looking Down The Coast (Postcard)
6) Don't Fight The Sea (Postcard)
B
1) Daybreak Over The Ocean (Included this so the album has a 'group' feel and I don't mind it!)
2) Isn't It Time (Single Version)
3) Strange World
4) From there And Back Again
5) Pacific Coast Highway
6) Summer's Gone

Thanks for the opening post Hypehat!

A fantastic and funny read, I just got their albums on japanese mini LP and will be burning and re-listening to the discography during bus trips over the next few days.  I'll pick a favourite after that I think!
